Abstract:This paper studies the Cauchy problem for the fast diffusion equation with a localized reaction. We establish the Fujita type theorem to the problem, and then obtain the diffusion-independent blow-up rate for the non-global solutions. Moreover, we prove that the blow-up set for the problem consists of a single point under large initial data. These conclusions are quite different from those for the slow diffusion case.

Abstract:In some chemical reaction–diffusion processes, the reaction takes place only at some local sites, due to the presence of a catalyst. In this paper we study the well-posedness of a model problem of this type. Sufficient conditions are found to ensure global existence and finite time blowup. The blowup rate and the blowup set are also investigated in the case of special nonlinearity.

Abstract:This paper deals with the blow-up for a non-local diffusion equation with exponential reaction term and Neumann boundary condition. The local existence and uniqueness of the solution are obtained. Furthermore, we prove that the solution of the equation blows up in finite time. Under appropriate hypotheses, we give the estimates of the blow-up rate, and obtain that the blow-up set is a single point x = 0 for radially symmetric solution with a single maximum at the origin. Finally, some numerical experiments are performed, which illustrate our results.

Abstract:This paper deals with a reaction-diffusion equation with inner absorption and boundary flux of exponential forms. The blow-up rate is determined with the blow-up set, and the blow-up profile near the blow-up time is obtained by the Giga–Kohn method. It is observed that the blow-up rate and profile are independent of the nonlinear absorption term.

Abstract:In this paper we deal with the initial boundary value problem for two classes of reaction diffusion systems with two source terms in bounded domain. Abstract:We investigate a nonlocal reaction diffusion equation with absorption under Neumann boundary. We obtain optimal conditions on the exponents of the reaction and absorption terms for the existence of solutions blowing up in finite time, or for the global existence and boundedness of all solutions. For the blowup solutions, we also study the blowup rate estimates and the localization of blowup set. Moreover, we show some numerical experiments which illustrate our results.

Abstract:We study a nonlinear diffusion equation of the form u_t=u_xx+f(u) (x∈ [g(t),h(t)]) with free boundary conditions g'(t)=-u_x(t,g(t))+α and h'(t)=-u_x(t,h(t))-α for some α >0 . Such problems may be used to describe the spreading of a biological or chemical species, with the free boundaries representing the expanding fronts. When α =0 , the problem was recently investigated by Du and Lin (SIAM J Math Anal 42:377–405, 2010 ) and Du and Lou (J Euro Math Soc arXiv:1301.5373 ). In this paper we consider the case α >0 . In this case shrinking (i.e. h(t)-g(t)→ 0 ) may happen, which is quite different from the case α =0 . Moreover, we show that, under certain conditions on f , shrinking is equivalent to vanishing (i.e. u→ 0 ), both of them happen as t tends to some finite time. On the other hand, every bounded and positive time-global solution converges to a nonzero stationary solution as t→∞ . As applications, we consider monostable, bistable and combustion types of nonlinearities, and obtain a complete description on the asymptotic behavior of the solutions.

Abstract:This paper deals with a reaction–diffusion problem with coupled nonlinear inner sources and nonlocal boundary flux. Firstly, we propose the critical exponents on nonsimultaneous blow-up under some conditions on the initial data. Secondly, we combine the scaling technique and the Green’s identity method to determine four kinds of simultaneous blow-up rates. Abstract:The relation between infinite dimensional linear reaction and diffusion processes and partial differential equations as two basic tools for studying reaction and diffusion phenomenon is dealed. A law of large number for infinite dimensional linear reaction and diffusion processes is proved, the limit of processes is obtained. We have proved that a series of infinite dimensional linear reaction and diffusion processes converges to a solution of a partial differential equation under some conditions, and reveals the relation between the coefficients of the partial differential equation and the parameters of infinitesimal operator of the processes.

Abstract:In this paper, the blow-up solutions of the following reaction-diffusion systems are studied: where D⊂Rn(n≥2) is a bounded region and the boundary ∂D of D is smooth. Sufficient conditions to ensure the existence of the blow-up solution of this problem are obtained. For the blow-up solution, we also get an upper bound on the blow-up time and an upper estimate of the blow-up rate. Our research mainly relies on the use of the maximum principles of weakly coupled parabolic systems and the first-order differential inequality technique.

Abstract:This paper deals with asymptotic behavior of solutions to a reaction–diffusion system coupled via localized and local sources: ut=Δu+vp(x∗(t),t),vt=Δv+uq. Both the initial-boundary problem with null Dirichlet boundary condition and the Cauchy problem are considered to study the interaction between the two kinds of sources. For the initial-boundary problem we prove that the nonglobal solutions blow up everywhere in the bounded domain with uniform blow-up profiles. In addition, it is interesting to observe that the Cauchy problem admits an infinity Fujita exponent, namely, the solutions blow up under any nontrivial and nonnegative initial data whenever pq>1. All these imply that the blow-up behavior of solutions is governed by the localized source for the two problems with mixed-type coupling.

Abstract:Reaction-diffusion equations are widely used as the governing evolution equations for modeling many physical, chemical, and biological processes. Here we derive reaction-diffusion equations to model transport with reactions on a one-dimensional domain that is evolving. The model equations, which have been derived from generalized continuous time random walks, can incorporate complexities such as subdiffusive transport and inhomogeneous domain stretching and shrinking. A method for constructing analytic expressions for short time moments of the position of the particles is developed and moments calculated from this approach are shown to compare favourably with results from random walk simulations and numerical integration of the reaction transport equation. The results show the important role played by the initial condition. In particular, it strongly affects the time dependence of the moments in the short time regime by introducing additional drift and diffusion terms. We also discuss how our reaction transport equation could be applied to study the spreading of a population on an evolving interface.
