Abstract:To study the protective effect of vitamin E on muscle injury caused by static load by observing the changes of creatine kinase(CK) and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) activity in serum. Methods The rabbits were divided into normal control,VE and observation groups. The observation group and VE group were exerted definite static load on their lumbar region and VE group were given vitamin E orally.Biochemical methods were used to measure CK and LDH activity at different times. Results The serum CK activity in VE group and observation group significantly increased along with time increasing as compared with control groups( P 0.01).However,at 6,9,12 h of the experiment,CK activities of VE group[(5 880.3±1 242.1),(6 756.7±1 069.2),(7 800.0±506.4)IU/L respectively] were significantly lower than those of observation group[(9 693.7±2 336.5), (11 862.3 ±3 839.6), (15 812.5 ±2 311.9)IU/L respectively]( P 0.01).The LDH activity of observation group also increased as compared to control[(380.8±49.5),(398.5±96.5),(433.2± 107.9), (414.7± 96.9) IU/L vs (264.5± 99.7), (259.5±51.1),(282.7±98.9),(283.2±59.4)IU/L respectively at 3,6,9,12 h].There were no significant differences in LDH activity between VE group and control group. Conclusions Static load could lead to significant increase of serum CK and LDH activity suggesting that the muscle membrane permeability may be increased and cause certain damage to skeletal muscle.Vitamin E could prevent skeletal muscle from injury induced by static load.
