Abstract:Objective To explore the difference of executive function among patients with anxiety, depressive disorders and comorbidity of anxiety and depression . Methods Patients with depression (n = 35) , anxiety disorder ( n = 30 ) , depression comorbid of anxiety (n = 30) and normal controls ( n = 30) were tested using the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test ( WCST), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) and Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA). And the patients were re-measured after 6-week treatment. Results The patients with depression, anxiety, and comorbidity of anxiety and depression, both pre- and post-treatment, performed significantly worse than the controls on the total sorting cards, persistent errors and random errors of WCST ( P 0. 05 or P 0. 01) , and patients with depression comorbid of anxiety performed worst All groups of patients made progress on the WCST scores after treatment ( P 0.05 ) . There were no relationships between reductions of HAMD, HAMA scores and reductions of WCST total sorting cards, persistent errors and random errors after treatment Conclusions It is suggested that the executive functions in patients with depression, anxiety, and depression comorbid anxiety be impaired.
