Abstract:Attenuation of signal is one of the most important factors influencing power line communication’s reliability. In order to accurately analyze the high-frequency signal transmission in power line which is often affected by skin effect and dielectric effects, three-conductor power cable models which is made of RLCG circuit is proposed. The principle of RLCG model is analyzed in detail, and basis cell of RLCG parameters are deduced from the impedance measurement and identification of genetic algorithm. It models RVV 3G 2.5 mm2 power lines, and compares the simulation results with RLCG model and the measurement results. Experimental results show that RLCG model is validated in both time and frequency domains, which can provide the basis for the study of power line carrier communication systems.

Abstract:The characteristics of signal transmission over the power line networks are the key factors to be considered in designing the distribution line communication systems. A novel approach is proposed firstly for the measurement of signal transmission over the networks, then on the basis of great amount measurements, the signal attenuation and group delay as well as noises are discussed and analyzed. Finally the countermeasures against the general characteristics are proposed and the industry test result proves that the countermeasures are really effective.

Abstract:Communication over the low-voltage distribution networks is of great importance to the electrical engineering and networks engineering. The signal transmission characteristics over the distribution networks are the key factors to be considered in designing the communication systems. In this paper, the signal transmission characteristics in frequency band of 100 kHz /spl sim/400 kHz over 220-V distribution networks in China is investigated and its mathematical models are derived from the measured data. After the procedure of transmission measurement based on HP4395A is discussed briefly, the measurement results including in-phase and cross-phase transmission are described and analyzed. The impulse response of the channel is estimated from the frequency domain measurement based on the linear minimum mean square error in which the measurement noise is reduced during the parameters estimation processes, the estimation shows that the channel could be well described by the 20-taps finite-impulse response model. On the basis of a large amount measurements, we believe the transmission channel is the stationary stochastic process and a stochastic channel model of in-phase transmission is discussed and a six-order autoregressive of the channel model was given out.

Abstract:Power distribution grids are exploited by Power Line Communication (PLC) technology to convey high frequency data signals. The natural conformation of such power line networks causes a relevant part of the high frequency signals traveling through them to be radiated instead of being conducted. This causes not only electromagnetic interference (EMI) with devices positioned next to power line cables, but also a consistent deterioration of the signal integrity. Since existing PLC channel models do not take into account losses due to radiation phenomena, this paper responds to the need of developing accurate network simulators. A thorough analysis is herein presented about the conducted and radiated effects on the signal integrity, digging into differential mode to common mode signal conversion due to network imbalances. The outcome of this work allows each network element to be described by a mixed-mode transmission matrix. Furthermore, the classical per-unit-length equivalent circuit of transmission lines is extended to incorporate radiation resistances. The results of this paper lay the foundations for future developments of comprehensive power line network models that incorporate conducted and radiated phenomena.

Abstract:Considering the complex environment of power line carrier communication(PLCC),this paper proposes and implements a computer simulating system,represents the simulation algorithm for dynamic model and noise,as well as an application example.Using this software,we can change the topological configuration and parameters of the line channel and the load circuits to observe the performance of carrier signal under different impedance,attenuation and noise characteristics,learn the wave distortion of signal and the reliability of data transmission.Finally provide a useful reference for PLCC product design.

Abstract:In the modern intelligent building, the problem is vitally important to select appropriate low-volt (LV) power lines or power supplying grids with good transmission performance for communication paths. Based on the test of the function and voltage of the power lines in many different cases, the paper compares the test data in detail with the transmission performance and channel characteristic by least-squares method, and from which distinguishes the appropriate communication paths. Meanwhile, the paper introduces the design of the master network topology and the model of routing policies based on transporting matrix, and presents some optimization advices for communication path. The results show that the selection of communication paths is indispensable for construction of this network. It also provides references for the planning and design of PLC network.

Abstract:In the paper the measurement results of channel attenuation and noise within the frequency range of 1~40 MHz on 10 kV middle voltage powerline were presented.Results show both attenuation and noise characteristic were quite stable,not changing drastically with time.The attenuation increased with the increase of frequency while the noise level dropped with the increase of frequency.This,naturally,could provide certain signal-to-noise ratio balance by channel itself and should be considered with the system design.Theoretical channel capacity using water-filling algorithm is given,which is also helpful in the system design.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an on-line detection method for transmission line deterioration by using power line communication (PLC) signals in the distribution network of low-voltage power system. In order to prove the feasibility of this method, firstly, we analyze the process of PLC and the conditions to be satisfied in theory. Secondly, we analyze two kinds of common transmission line deterioration: weak cable insulation and bad line switch contact. We give the models of these two cases and analyze the characteristics of PLC signals when these two kinds of deterioration occur. Thirdly, we use fast Fourier transformation (FFT) algorithm to analyze the extracted signal in frequency domain and get frequency domain properties. Finally, we use these properties to identify types of deterioration. Simulation results verify the reliability of this method.

Abstract:The medium voltage power line network can be used for high-speed data transmission services.Based on real measurement results,this paper analyzes the noise characteristics and multi-path transmission attenuation of the power line transmission channel.In order to tackle the BER degradation caused by the PLC channel characteristics,COFDM technique is chosen as the modulation method.This paper also analyzes the effect of interleaving depth and coding scheme on suppressing impulse noise,and two novel schemes-sub-carrier selection and sub-carrier power adjustment are proposed.The performance is studied by simulation,with conclusion that the proposed schemes improve the BER performance of the system greatly.

Abstract:With the rapid development of electric engineering in our country,the electric grid becomes more and more compact.The right way of power transmission line and the used area become important problems to the power transmission line constructing.Using CDEGS software package,the electromagnetic environment under 220 kV four circuits on one tower transmission line was simulated.The power frequency electric field and magnetic field,radio interference(RI) and audible noise(AN) were examined systematically under different conductor arrangements.The line corridor width was determined according to the limit of power frequency electric field,and typical arrangement of conductors was recommended and measures to reduce the electric field were proposed.In the end,it is concluded that the power frequency electric field is the main factor affecting the electromagnetic environment of such transmission line.

Abstract:This paper presents the essential basics for the design of reliable high speed PLC system. First a channel model for low voltage networks in the frequency range (1 MHz-10 MHz) is given with an exponential function model for background noise and a third-order statistical autoregressive model for frequency response. The channel capacity in two environments is calculated using the algorithm for the input power optimal distribution of the information theory, that is, 110 Mbit/s and 170 Mbit/s, respectively. A data transmitting rate of about 100 Mbit/s for an OFDM system can be reached with a symbol error rate of 10-6. It is shown that it is feasible to realize high-speed data transmission using low voltage networks of China.

Abstract:For high-speed distribution power network communications, it is necessary and important to study the characterizations of power network channel such as power network noise level, channel attenuation and impedance matching. Power network noise exists in the whole available frequency range and cannot be eliminated. Channel attenuation is related to data transmission distance and multi-path reflection, which is caused by discontinuous position in the power network and impedance mismatch between the modem and low voltage power network. To study the characterization of network input impedance will improve the impedance matching and decrease power attenuation of data transmission. It has measured low voltage power network impedance in common residential area over the frequency range of 5k~ 20kHz in reference [1]. This frequency range is applied to low speed carrier communications. Measurement of the power network input impedance characterization has carried out in industrial environment over 100Hz~10MHz, in order to investigate the channel characterization in higher frequency[2]. To study the feasibility of constructing a small LAN with low voltage power network, Japanese researcher analyzed the low voltage power network impedance characterization [3].

Abstract:Compared with the AC distribution network, the DC distribution network has lower line losses, better power quality, higher reliability and is suitable for all kinds distributed generation and DC lords access, etc. This paper deals with DC distribution network for distributed generation, electric vehicle charging and discharging station access at first, and then put forward a DC network topology structure, finally with the using PSCAD/EMTDC to model and simulate the distributed generation and the DC distribution network; the distributed generation capacity will change when the environmental factors change, but the DC voltage and the power of DC lords in the DC distribution does not follow the distributed generation capacity, they stay in a constant value, at the same time the DC distribution can transfer energy with the AC network, the DC distribution network can also regulate the power flow in the AC network. The result of the simulation verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the DC network topology structure.

Abstract:To validate the communication performance of the adaptive protection system of power supply and distribution line,the system's communication network is constructed based on DeviceNet fieldbus and industrial Ethernet.Transmission time delay model and performance evaluation indices of fieldbus are presented.Transmission time delay,throughput,network efficiency and network utilization of DeviceNet communication of the system are evaluated.Constitution of transmission time delay and general formulas of industrial Ethernet are presented.Transmission time delay of industrial Ethernet periodic communication of the system is analyzed.Results of simulation indicate that the real time performance and reliability of DeviceNet and industrial Ethernet communication of the system can satisfy the requirement of substation automation.

Abstract:There is continued and growing interest in using low voltage power networks to realize "the last mile". It is necessary and important for any communication system to study the noise characteristics of the communication channel. This paper presents noise measurements on three typical low voltage networks in the frequency range of (500 k/spl sim/10 M) Hz. The noise measurements include: power-line background noise, appliance noise and noise sampled over a 24-hour period The conclusion that has been reached is that the noise level in the (500 k/spl sim/10 M) Hz is much lower than that in the (10 k-450 k) Hz ranges. Finally the paper gives a rough estimate of the channel capacity.

Abstract:In the informational low voltage (LV) power grid, inbound communication possesses significant importance. Utilizing LV inbound powerline communication (PLC) based on talkative power conversion (TPC) can effectively facilitate the establishment of LV smart grids. This article conducts a comprehensive study and design of TPC-based LV inbound PLC, and introduces a digital transmission method which is suitable to the application with ultra-low signal noise rates (SNRs). By analyzing the mechanism of nonlinear load circuits, the powerline channel characteristics at low frequencies are elaborated. Leveraging these insights, we propose a digital bandpass transmission method to counteract substantial interferences within the LV channel. This method incorporates binary phase shifting keying (BPSK) modulation, along with an innovative signal accumulation process. Considering applications in compact grid equipment, we select a boost power factor correction (PFC) circuit as the hardware transponder. This transponder employs the TPC technique to encode the carrier within current ripples. In scenarios where the SNR in the channel falls below -19.5 dB, the LV inbound PLC method achieves a bit error rate (BER) of 10% at 2.4 kHz, with the transmission rate of 50 bits/s. Finally, experiments are carried out on the TPC transponder hardware, which shows the potential applicability in real-world LV power grid settings.
