Abstract:Purpose To establish an animal model of fetal distress and to evaluate the alteration of pH, blood gas and biochemical parameters at fetal artery blood in ewe. Methods Intrauterine surgeries were performed at 116 - 125 gestational days in 16 ewes for vascular catheterization at fetal abdominal aorta 0.5 ml of 1% microspheres suspension was injected per 15 to 20 minutes after the surgeries had been succeed. Fetal blood pressure was continually monitored, and the fetal blood were sampled through the catheter before and after injection of microsphere for measurement of pH,blood gas, lactic acid, and high density lipoprotein (HDL). Results The of 16 pregnant sheeps were successfully operated. The times of microsphere injection (MS) was significantly related to fetal blood pH ( - 0. 724 0,P<0.01), Po2 (0. 521 5 ,P<0.05), p∞2( - 0. 700 79, P < 0.01 ) and lactate acid ( r = 0.50, P < 0.05 ). There was significant relationship between pH and lactate acid, when pH below 7.0 . The relationship between MS and glucose, MS and HDL was not significant. Conclusions The alteration of pH, blood gas, and biochemical parameters was associated with fetal distress. The occlusion of placenta at fetal site with microsphere in ewe can induce fetal distress in a consistent manner.
