SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE MEGALOPOLIS OF THE YANGTZE RIVER DELTA

Abstract:Over the last a few years,the urban development in the area of the Yangtze River Delta has been characteristic,forming a large economic core region in China.A city group,with Shanghai as a center,is now forming.This area has very strong economy,and relatively well developed society and environment for investment.The rapid development of the regional urbanization has transformed this area into a megalopolis.From the general perspectives of the trends in megalopolis development in the world,this paper analyzes briefly the problems in the further sustainable development of the megalopolis.Strategies for the sustainable development of the Yangtze Delta megalopolis have therefore been proposed:1)to establish the role of Shanghai as a global economic center,2)to increase the urbanization,3) to invest more in major industry,4)to strengthen further inner cooperation within the megaloplolis,5)to improve the government management on the regional development and 6) to set up plans across different administration areas.
