Abstract:The growth of Japanese flounder from 20 to 40 days after hatching(DAH) were measured. The effects of morphological traits body length and body height on body weight were analyzed with correlation analysis and path analysis. The results showed that growth rate of body weight, body length and body height of Japanese flounder was slow during metamorphosis(20-32 DAH) and increased rapidly later on. The absolute growth rate showed a downward trend during metamorphosis and reached the minimum at 31 DAH following by an upward trend thereafter. The difference between the period from 28 to 32 DAH and the period from 34 to 40 DAH was significant(P0.05), with no significance during the other periods(P﹥ 0.05). The instantaneous growth rate presented a degressive trendy all the time, and differed significantly among various periods(P0.05). At 20 DAH, the direct effect of body height on body weight was higher than that of body length on body weight, revealing that body height played a leading role in body weight. During the other developmental periods, body length with a bigger direct effect on body weight than that of body height was a key effective factor. The correlation analysis had the same tendency as path analysis results had.
