Abstract:Based on the introduction of basic conditions in west China, the major ecological environmental problems existing in the west China regions are analyzed and the countermeasures and suggestions of the conservation and construction of ecological environment in developing west China are put forward. The development of west China is a wonderful system project as well as an arduous and long term task, which might require the efforts of several generations. In the development of west China, the conservation of ecological environment should be given the first priority. We must improve our knowledge and take advantage of high technologies to energetically carry out Chinese eco agriculture, water saving agricultural practices, afforestation and soil erosion control projects.

Abstract:The distribution of energy and industry in China is extremely uneven. The western region is rich in energy resources but relatively economically backward, while the eastern region, particularly, the southeast coastal area, is an industrially-developed area but is short of energy resources. On the basis of such a situation, this paper recommends the sustainable development of energy systems for the western region. The specific innovative energy systems adopted here can convert the western region's fossil fuels to alternative fuels and electricity with higher efficiency, lower investment cost, and less impact upon the environment. As one of such innovative energy systems, the MES (multi-functional energy system) can achieve 10–14% in the energy conservation ratio, 4–8% reduction of investment cost, and a 10–37% decrease of main pollutants. Moreover, its adoption will increase the income and accelerate the development of the energy industry in the western region, as well as meet the energy demand of the eastern region. The analysis in this paper presents a feasible energy road map for the rapid yet sustainable development of China's western region.

Abstract:The 14th Five Year Plan of the country clearly points out the need to promote the energy revolution, accelerate energy technology innovation, and build a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient modern energy system. Therefore, the development and utilization of clean energy is of great practical significance in the context of the national scientific outlook on development. As an important ecological protection area in China, it is an inevitable trend for Xizang's future economic and social development to use clean energy as energy support. Therefore, accelerating the development and utilization of clean energy in Xizang is of great significance to respond to the national energy strategy, the economic development of the autonomous region, ecological environment protection, and regional stability and prosperity. In view of the problems in the development and utilization of clean energy in Xizang, this paper puts forward suggestions to help achieve the dual carbon goal, so as to promote the rapid development of clean energy development and utilization industry in Xizang.

Abstract:Western China is not only an important ecological conservation area, but also has rich natural resources and environmental conditions. Therefore, the western China must vigorously develop green low carbon economy to realize the win-win of natural ecological environment protection and socio-economic development. At present, the western China has not only great potential in technology progress, industrial upgrading and energy saving and emission reduction, but also has good endowment conditions and comparative advantages in the development of agricultural carbon sequestration, eco-tourism and clean energy development. Therefore, the western region in China should make full use of these advantages to promote low carbon economy development. At the present stage, the western China should actively promote industrial upgrading and structural optimization, comprehensively implement natural ecological protection engineering, reasonably develop and utilize mineral resources, fully utilize renewable clean energy resources, promote eco-tourism, give priority to organic ecological agriculture, and accelerate urbanization and urban ecology-oriented development.

Abstract:China is striving for coordinated regional economic development and to solve the energy shortage in eastern China through a western China development plan with one focus being energy development and west to east energy transfer. This paper describes Western China Sustainable Energy Development Model (WSED) to evaluate various energy development scenarios for western China. The model includes a Western China MARKAL model, a Computable General Equilibrium Model for Western China (WCGE), and an Energy Service Demand Projection Model (ESDP). The ESDP provides energy service demand projections for the Western China MARKAL model, while the WCGE provides macroeconomic inputs for the ESDP and analyzes the impact of different energy development scenarios on western China economy. A reference scenario and several different west to east energy transfer scenarios with and without consideration of the water constraints and the endogenous technology learning are presented. The modeling describes the energy consumption, carbon emissions, water consumption, energy investment cost, and the impact on western China GDP of the different scenarios through the year 2050. These results have implications on sustainable energy development policies and sustainable west to east energy transfer strategies.

Abstract:It is of an important strategic meaning of coalbed methane industry for energy development in China. Exploration and exploitation of coalbed methane of China can be divided into 4 stages, namely, pump drainage and usage of mine gas; introduction, development, and successful application of modern coalbed methane theory and technology; commercial development stage; and industrialization development stage. Because of the development, innovation, and systematic integration of basic geological theories, ex-ploration technical methods, exploitation technology, gathering and transportation, and management sys-tem, coalbed methane industry can develop in large scale in China. This is a rare historical development opportunity for energy development strategy for China. In order to accelerate the development of coalbed methane, it is necessary to strengthen overall planning to bring the initiative into play; to strengthen geo-logical research of coalbed methane to improve levels of guidance and target evaluation for regional explora-tion; to do research of high efficiency and low cost development technology; to develop gathering and pro-cessing of coalbed methane product; and to continue to track current theories and technologies of foreign countries and strength communication and cooperation of research.

Abstract:By thoroughly understanding the development and research of the distributed energy sources system and taking into consideration of the distribution and usage status of energy in the western part of China,a project of a new distributed energy sources system with complementary use of renewal energy resources and fossil resources was presented.This project included in itself a marsh gas-generating system and a hydrate-storing system.This project could not only solve the problem of electricity,heat,and gas supply,but also improve remarkably the ecologic environment and,especially,the living conditions of people in the west region.It could also meet the requirements of our country to construct a harmonious socialist society of resource economization and environmental friendship.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the global economy, energy demand of the world is increasing fast. Faced with the exhaustion of the limited non-regeneration energy, the renewable energy, which is characterized by cleanness, safety, and large quantity, has drawn more and more attention. Firstly the advantages and the development of renewable energy for power generation in our country are introduced in this paper. And the difference of development between the developed countries and our country is figured out. Through the comparison, the existent problems of renewable power in China are proposed. Furthermore five major kinds of renewable energy, including hydropower resources, wind energy, solar energy, biomass energy, and ocean energy, are separately analyzed in the paper. Their exploration and utilization status, the existent insufficiency, the future prospects are discussed specially. Finally a future prospect and some suggestions for the development of renewable energy power generation are given.

Abstract:Wind energy, as a reliable, natural and renewable electrical power supply, produces no emissions and so it is an excellent alternative to conventional, more heavily polluting fuels in the long term based on the worldwide concern about the environment and energy supply. Wind energy resources in China are affluent, but its distribution are uneven, centralized, and far from both the utility and the high electricity demand markets. This made China's onshore wind power development have such characteristics as large scale, high centralization and far transmission, which is different with that in Europe, where the characteristics are even distribution, decentralized. In past two decades, considering the economic, technical and environmental benefits of wind power, China has given priority to its development. Besides the dramatic growth of large scale grid-connected wind power, household-scale wind power has been used most successfully in remote rural regions in China. Therefore, the development of wind power will be of great importance to alleviate the energy crisis and environmental pollution resulting from the rapid economic growth of China in the future. In this paper, the current development of wind energy utilization in China is investigated, and some critical barriers are discussed. Finally, the perspective of wind energy utilization is presented, where focuses are placed on seven wind power bases.

Abstract:Environmental pollution has become the bottleneck of the sustainable economic development of China. The business-as-usual energy system in China is not suitable for sustainable need. It is well known that China has to use coal as the main primary energy over the long term. Under such special conditions, to plan and construct the integrated sustainable energy system with optimal benefits in resource and energy utilization and environmental emission is urgent. By introducing the international studies and new developments in sustainable energy systems, this paper puts forward that multi-generation strategy based on coal gasification is the trend for future development of our domestic energy industry. The framework of a multi-generation system based on oxygen blown gasification is described and its benefits are analyzed. Finally, the starting procedure, government role, and policies for the implementing of multi-generation strategy in China are proposed.

Abstract:Due to the energy characteristic of rich coal and less gas in China, developing coal to gas (CTG) was one of the important ways to obtain the natural gas resources and to alleviate the contradiction between supply and demand of natural gas. Developing CTG projects could not only utilize inferior coal resources in China reasonably and adjust the structure of coal consumption, but could also realize the clean utilization of coal and relieve the tense gas supply, as well as ensure the energy security. The industrial process, governmental policy and current status of the CTG industry in China were presented. Besides, the necessity and economy of domestic development of CTG as well as the main problems in the development process of CTG were analyzed. Finally, feasible suggestions for healthy development of CTG industry were put forward.

Abstract:Developing biomass economy is conducive to economic growth and rural development; it reduces fossil energy consumption and improves ecological environment. Biomass economy has great development potentials, but it still faces various challenges. In this article, the biomass resources in China are comprehensively analyzed, the industry and its current situation and trend are evaluated, and the strategic objectives, key projects, and policy suggestions for industrial development are proposed. China is rich in biomass resources, and biomass briquette fuel, large-scale biogas engineering, biomass power generation and cogeneration technologies are mature. These technologies have exhibited a good momentum of large-scale development and will be the main utilization approaches for a period of time in the future. The development idea proposed in this article for the biomass economy in China regards each county-level region as a unit and considers regional resource endowment, economic development level, and industrial development requirements. The development goals of the biomass economy in China are clarified as becoming mature, system innovation, and large-scale replacement by 2025, 2035, and 2050, respectively. Furthermore, policy suggestions are proposed in terms of technology research and development, incentive policy, market cultivation, and capital investment.

Abstract:China has a vast territory, so the energy resource endowments of different regions in the country are significantly varied. Promoting regional energy revolution based on local conditions is an effective way to break the bottlenecks that restrict China’s energy development. This study analyzes the current situation of energy development from the aspects of energy production, consumption, and distribution, and investigates the differences regarding energy consumption intensity and the driving force for energy consumption growth in the core regions (i.e., the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region, Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, old industrial bases, the Central China, energy-rich areas, and Southwest China). The medium- and long-term energy development trends and strategic focuses of these regions by 2035 are analyzed. Specifically, the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region should focus on the coordinated development of energy, economy, and environment; an energy system with regional linkage should be formed and optimized in the Yangtze River Delta; the Pearl River Delta can strive to build itself as a clean energy production, storage, and transportation base; economic transformation should be promoted in the old industrial bases through value increment and diversification of energy resources; Central China should establish itself as an integrated energy hub; the energy-rich areas should build itself as a green and sustainable energy security base; and clean energy consumption should be encouraged in Southwest China. To coordinate energy development in various regions, China should fully consider the significant differences in local conditions, promote social development and ecological protection with the regional energy revolution, and encourage regional cooperation in energy.
