Abstract:Wound healing is a complex process involving several stages that include inflammation, formation of granulation tissue, reepithelialization, matrix formation and remodeling. The energy supports these biological processes. High organisms utilize molecular oxygen as a terminal oxidant. This way of gaining energy for wound healing leads to the production of a number of reaction oxygen species which may have a defensive or informatory role in wound healing. The low concentration of ROS would improve the wound healing, while it may be harmful in high concentrations. Both the lack and the excess of reactive oxygen species may influence healing negatively.
