Abstract:Calli derived from tubular florets and ray flowers of three summerflowering Dendranthema morifolium varieties, named 'Golden lotus', 'White dwarf' and 'Red dwarf', were irradiated with 0, 10, 15 and 20 Gy of60Co gamma rays. This was to study the effects of irradiation on the browning, differentiation rate and the quantities of differentiation shoots. The results are as follows.60Co gamma rays have a great influence upon the browning and differentiation capacity of the two sources of calli from the three varieties. As the doses of gamma rays increase from 0 to 10 to 15 then to 20 Gy, the browning rate of all the calli rises gradually but the differentiation capacity decreases sharply. Moreover, the sensitivity of the callus to gamma rays is different according to different source and genotype. The calli of 'Red dwarf' is most susceptible to gamma rays among the three varieties.
