Abstract:An Auto-focusing and Auto-alignment system based on digital image processing and the computer control technology was developed for 3-LCD projector manufacture. We analyzed the imaging characteristic of the optical system, and developed a mathematical model to realize the accurate focusing of each LCD panel and accurate alignment among three LCD panels. Based on the model, the experimental facility was set up, which is compose of five CCD detectors that are placed on the screen at different filed of view to capture images and regulating mechanism of LCD's six-dimensional degree of freedom droved by stepper motors. Appropriate defocusing evaluation function and alignment algorithm were also presented in this paper. The images captured by CCDs are processed to get the defocusing amount of every panel by the variance function and displacement amount of the three LCD panels by the gravity model approach. Then commands are sent to regulating mechanism to control the movement of each panel. After several turns of auto-correction, all the panels are in the proper position. Experiment results show that with the proper algorithm, the system can provide high accuracy and good performance in projector manufacture. The whole focusing and alignment process can be finished within ten minutes which is far superior to that made by man more than half an hour. With this system, completely automatic product lines can be established, which can provide 3-panel LCD projector light engines with considerable focusing and alignment accuracy.

In this paper, the optic characteristic and technical quality were discussed, parameters of Auto-stereoscopic display were measured by an expert equipment. The result has important meaning on constituting technical quality criterion for auto-stereoscopic display.

Abstract:We propose a single-sensor gazing panoramic stereo imaging system with no central blind area based on polarization technology. This solution addresses the issue of traditional stereo panoramic systems, which often feature large and complex mirrors in front to reflect light. Drawing inspiration from the traditional dual-channel structure, we apply polarization technology to the first reflective surface, creating a third channel for stereo vision. Our system demonstrates a promising approach to achieving stereo vision without the need for additional complex structures on the original basis.

Abstract:Active stereo display system simulates the principle of human viewing, which generates two view images, one for each eye, switched by electronic glasses. Existing stereo development libraries, e.g. CAVELib, Avocano, require fully or partially understanding, at least caring of stereo display principles. Furthermore, most of existing libraries are used to develop a full application with all stereo display functions, e.g. multi-tasking, shared memory, stereo displaying, and so on. MultiPro is a PC cluster based system developed by C++ and Qt library. It's composed of following modules of controller, renderer, MultiPro Library, communication layer and application module. Benefiting from modular design, the application developer doesn't need to know anything about stereo display principles and the platform architecture. Besides, different applications can be switched at run-time of the platform, without the inconvenient switch of application processes. Three typical applications were developed and the results were excellent.

Abstract:The paper discusses the key techniques involved in the construction of a large scale stereo tiled display wall, such as hardware selection, geometry calibration, edge blending, color calibration and software environment. By parallel rendering and automatic calibration based on computer vision in the system, multiple commodity projectors are driven by Linux cluster functions as a single logical display capable of showing high resolution, large scale, passive stereo scenes.

Abstract:With the development of display technology,stereoscopic display is drawing more and more attention for its ability to reproduce the real world.This paper presents the backlight design of a 2D-compatible auto-stereoscopic display.Based on addressable LED arrays,the system uses ATmega128 for system control.In 3D mode,it uses RS232 interface to achieve real-time communication with the eye-detect module running on PC,providing light source for different observers.In 2D mode,the MCU generates PWM signals,regulating the brightness of the LED.Our experiment is achieved by use of LCD,LG-PHILIPS LM170E01 and two set of LED arrays.As a result,we get 3D view at distance 490～550 mm and 2D view at 300～1000 mm.

Abstract:In order to realize autostereoscopic display,a new directional optic structure was proposed by providing a pair of parallax images time-sequentially. Aided with the human eye tracking system,a high resolution multi-user parallax 3D displayer was invented.The multi optical path sturcture,fresnel lens,grazing incidence and their results were elaborated. As the experimental results shows,the combination of the three sturctures can generate strong backlight effect,and finally a strong 3D visual sense is achieved without loss of resolution.
A New Virtual View Rendering Method Based on Depth Image

Abstract:Virtual view rendering has been considered as a key technique in three-dimensional display. A new virtual view rendering method aimed at flat-panel auto-stereoscopic displays which shifts each pixel in reference image horizontally based on depth image is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the depth image is pre-processed by expanding objects boundaries so as to avoid foreground being split due to the inaccuracy of depth image. The second is to horizontally shift all points in reference image to the desired virtual position based on associated disparity, which is determined by depth image and the limit of screen parallax. Finally, to handle the tradeoff between image quality and algorithm complexity, we fill the small holes with a modified interpolation method while the remaining large disoccluded regions are recovered by a depth-aided inpainting algorithm. Experiments are carried out to show the superiority of the proposed method.

Abstract:The autostereoscopic display is a promising way towards three-dimensional-display technology since it allows humans to perceive stereoscopic images with naked eyes. However, it faces great challenges from low resolution, narrow viewing angle, ghost images, eye strain, and fatigue. Nowadays, the prevalent liquid crystal display (LCD), the organic light-emitting diode (OLED), and the emerging micro light-emitting diode (Micro-LED) offer more powerful tools to tackle these challenges. First, we comprehensively review various implementations of autostereoscopic displays. Second, based on LCD, OLED, and Micro-LED, their pros and cons for the implementation of autostereoscopic displays are compared. Lastly, several novel implementations of autostereoscopic displays with Micro-LED are proposed: a Micro-LED light-stripe backlight with an LCD, a high-resolution Micro-LED display with a micro-lens array or a high-speed scanning barrier/deflector, and a transparent floating display. This work could be a guidance for Micro-LED applications on autostereoscopic displays.

With the use of these models, we can easily analyze the factors impacting on multi-view acquisition/stereo display system, such as stereo angle, number of views, and stereo image resolution. In order to use these factors constructing better multi-view acquisition/stereo display system, the strategy to optimize them are needed. This paper proposes a structure optimization for multi-view acquisition/stereo display system. With the structure optimization, we can adjust the factors conveniently and easily set up a real multi-view acquisition/stereo display system to achieve good effect.

Abstract:Stereo image quality assessment is important to the stereo video technologies.Traditional PSNR does not reflect the characteristics of human visual perception and can not be directly apply to the stereo image quality assessment.According to the human visual system of depth perception and focusing on regions of interest(ROI)to stereo image,a new assessing method based on the ROI of texture and depth map is proposed.First,extracting the ROI of texture image and the corresponding depth map.Then,allocating the weighting factors according to the degree of interesting.Finally,assessing the stereo image by applying the weighting factors to the various regions.Experimental results show that this method is consistent with the subjective judgments and can effectively reflect human visual perception characteristics.

Abstract:To resolve the handworked orientation problem in the industrial production of optical engines in three-panel projection display system, a new automatic system was proposed. Using square error function and the barycenter algorithm of light intensity as the merit function of focusing and alignment respectively, the system analyzed the images captured by charge coupled device (CCD) in the projection screen to produce feedback signals. By adjusting the position of spatial light modulator (SLM), the three colors' auto-focusing and auto-alignment was realized. The experimental results indicate that three colors' high precise, efficient auto-focusing and auto-alignment can be achieved in the above system under the control of motors reaching high accuracy in several minutes.

Abstract:As the next generation video display technique after 2D display based on DTV/HDTV, three-dimensional (3D) multi-view stereoscopic display has been one of the most popular research issues in the world. This paper provides an overview about the key technologies for building a multi-view stereoscopic display system, which includes: Light field representation model and light field capturing system, high efficiency multi-view coding and transmission method compatible with current video standard, high efficiency rendering method for arbitrary position view at the decoder, 3D display technologies and multi-view autostereoscopic display. Focusing on the key technologies above, the latest international development trends and existing problems is analyzed. Meanwhile a solution for implementing a 3D video processing system based on interactive auto-stereoscopic display is proposed.

Abstract:Expensive and cumbersome 3D equipment currently limits the popularization of emerging stereo media on the Internet. Particularly for stereo images, as a major kind of stereo media widespread on the Internet, there is not yet a good solution to show stereoscopy in conventional displays. By investigating the principles of human visual system (HVS), this paper proposes a method, called Flat3D for animating stereoscopy only through a conventional screen (2D) based on the motion parallax. The way for exhibition is dynamically transforming consistent views from left to right and then playing back reversely. The relative motion impresses viewers with strong depth perception. We investigate some factors which affect viewing experience in Flat3D and find that a reasonable fixation point and structure-preserved view transition contribute the most. Based on the above findings, we develop an adaptive fixation acquisition approach combining color and depth cues, as well as employing a probability-based view synthesis to generate the view sequences. Experiments which compared the above factors in and out of consideration show that our approach is a more convenient, effective and automatic alternative for browsing stereo images in common flat screens.

Abstract:Auto-stereoscopic display means that the observers can obtain 3D images only using naked eyes,without any other assistant devices.This paper introduced the system using LEDs as the illumination to implement the stereo display for multi-users.Based on the LCD display,Fresnel lens was used to control the path of the LED light which was responsible for the parallax images.Cooperated with the head tracking programme,the LED arrays can offer the exact light to different observers independently.So the observer can see the right-left images and the gain the 3D images.The system uses Fresnel lens with the focal length of 930 mm,sets the light source 839 mm back from the LCD.Then we can get free view areas at the distance about 490~550 mm before the LCD display.Based on the optic angle enlarging structure,the stereo view angle can be up to ±30°,responding time of the system is less than 30 ms.

Abstract:In this paper, the stereo-visioning mechanism is firstly analyzed and then a new stereo LC display is provided. By the parallax effect illuminating of special back-light with lattice, the beam from the narrow seam causes the alternate columns, which respectively output left and right image, can be independently perceived by corresponding eye-left eye sees the left image and right eye sees the right one. As a result, person will enjoy stereo video image without glasses. The optic mathematical model of the parallax illumination is analyzed in detail from the angle of optics.
Image generation system and method for stereoscopic 3D display

Abstract:The invention discloses an image generation system and method for stereoscopic 3D display. Image sources of present most stereoscopic 3D display systems are acquired by cooperating display principles of optical field reconstruction and view field splicing. A generation system comprises a 2D display unit array, a lens array, an aperture stop array, a directional scattering screen, a precision guide rail, an image acquisition system and a computer. A generation method comprises the following steps of: cyclically scanning display points; capturing and identifying the image acquisition system; acquiring a map coordinate relation; transforming a perspective image source; moving the image acquisition system and repeatedly carrying out the movement; and overlapping all images to obtain an image source required for final display. According to the invention, an image processing method with flexibility and strong operability can be adopted based on specific 3D display equipment; and the method has the advantages that the image source can be acquired based on panel display or multi-projection stereoscopic 3D display system. The system and the method disclosed by the invention comprehensively consider system imaging aberration and system precision problems, and can obtain corrected images under lower computation complexity.
