Abstract:The majority of the current research on the mounting system has emphasised on the low/medium power engine, rare work has been reported for the high-speed and heavy-duty engine, the vibration characteristics of which exhibits significantly increased complexity and uncertainty. In this work, a general dynamics model was firstly established to describe the dynamic properties of a mounting system with various numbers of mounts. Then, this model was employed for the optimization of the mounting system. A modified Powell conjugate direction method was developed to improve the optimization efficiency. Basing on the optimization results obtained from the theoretical model, a mounting system was constructed for a V6 diesel engine. The experimental measurement of the vibration intensity of the mounting systems shows excellent agreement with the theoretical calculations, indicating the validity of the model. This dynamics model opens a new avenue in assessing and designing the mounting system for a high-speed and heavy-duty engine. On the other hand, the delineated dynamics model, and the optimization algorithm should find wide applications for other mounting systems, such as the power transmission system which usually has various uncertain mounts.

Abstract:Combined with finite element method (FEM), the multi-body system simulation (MSS) method was applied to investigate the torsional vibration of a multi-cylinder diesel crankshaft. The torsional vibration at the free-end of crankshaft under the condition with and without torsional damper is analyzed through the dynamics analysis. The torsional vibration was measured under the same condition. The test results coincided well with calculation.

Abstract:Based on ABAQUS software, by Assembly module, the holistic finite element model of Diesel engine was built. Inhere frequencies and mode shapes of Diesel engine under nature conditions were worked out by using Lanczos which is the most polular method to solve modal anslysis in engineering. The weak partitions of the Diesel engine vibration were found by mode shapes analysis, and the corresponding modifications were put forward, which can be seen as the reliable foundation for improving construction design and response analysis of the Diesel engine. In contrast to results of engine block model anslysis, the feasibility of engine block model anslysis was point out.

Abstract:In order to improve the dynamic balancing efficiency,accuracy and the automation of the crankshaft for the inland manufacture,an automatic dynamic balancing scheme is studied.Form the view point of the system,the key problems that should be considered is summarized,w hich include the balancing test unit and driving system,the support-up and rotating unit,the drilling unit,the scraps disposal unit,the control system structure,the controller,the analogue and the digital signal process,the mathematic model,the cut positioning method,the sequence control method and so on.The prototype machine is developed.And the experimental results prove that the scheme is successful.

Abstract:Abstract The crankshaft is the largest moving part in the engine and one of the most important parts in the engine. It bears the force transmitted from the connecting rod and converts this force into torque. The working conditions of the crankshaft are harsh, and its stress conditions are quite complicated. The stress concentration phenomenon is quite serious under the effect of bending and torsion loads, especially in the rounded transition area from the crank to the journal. In addition, the crankshaft has a significant impact on the overall size, weight, reliability, and manufacturing cost of the engine Therefore, the fatigue strength, stiffness, and wear resistance of the journal must be strictly checked and analyzed during the design of the crankshaft. In this paper, the finite element method is used as the main research method to analyze the static strength of a diesel engine crankshaft. The pre-processing software is used to optimize the topology of the crankshaft 1/2 single turn and the tetrahedral meshing. Then the finite element analysis software is imported to set the boundary Condition and apply the load, and finally submit the calculation. According to the working conditions, the crank pin load and the main journal support reaction force are calculated. Through the analysis of the results of crankshaft statics simulation, the weak links of the stress distribution of the crankshaft under dangerous conditions are found, which provides a theoretical basis for the structural design of the crankshaft.

Abstract:Based on the FEA model of crankshaft system,a dynamic system consisting of both the flexible bodies and the rigid bodies was established by using the multi-body dynamics analysis.Through torsional response analysis by this model,the time history which was used as evaluation of power characteristics and safety was calculated in detail.Then with a newly designed testing set-up,the torsional vibration of the crankshaft of a 4-cylinder diesel engine was measured at the free-end.The comparison of the calculated and measured results show that the calculated values of the main order are in better agreement with the measured values,and the validity of the model is proved.

Abstract:Torsional vibration is the primary cause of engine crankshaft failure. Consequently, the reduction of engine vibration is of paramount importance for the enhancement of automotive safety and comfort. However, the lack of comprehensive insight into the damping mechanism of the torsional damper has impeded the effective control of engine torsional vibration. In order to gain insight into the vibration characteristics of the shaft system in an inline six-cylinder diesel engine, an analysis of the system's behaviour during both free and forced vibration was conducted. A mathematical relationship was deduced between the dimensions, material, operational temperature and damping properties of the silicone oil damper. The objective was to determine the optimal damping and moment of inertia of the damper, with the aim of minimizing the torsional amplitude of the sixth harmonic. The results demonstrate a reduction in the six-harmonic torsional amplitude from 0.32° to 0.14° following the installation of the damper. The mean and relative deviations between the calculated and experimental results are 0.0018° and 0.83%, respectively. To facilitate the design of the silicone oil damper, a software program, Vibsim, was developed based on Visual Studio for the design and torsional vibration analysis of the silicone oil damper. This software is reliable in calculating results and is user-friendly.

Abstract:A spatial finite element model for vibration analysis of crankshaft system was proposed. The crankshaft body was simplified as spatial rigid frame by using beam elements based on Timoshenko beam theory. The main bearings in system were simplified as linear springs and dashpots. The natural frequencies of the crankshaft system of a four in-line cylinder engine were calculated and compared with the analytical and experimental values available in other publications. In order to simulate the motion of operating crankshaft system, the gas forces, rotating masses and reciprocating masses were considered, the crankshaft and main bearings were coupled in a rotating coordinate system, and a dynamic model for vibration analysis of crankshaft system was established. By applying the dynamic model, the influence of the mass and moment of inertia of front pulley on the behavior of crankshaft vibration was investigated.

Abstract:A rigid and a flexible dynamical model for a diesel engine crankshaft system have been built with ADAMS. The dynamical characteristic data of the two crankshaft system obtained from model simulation are analyzed and compared respectively. Also, the experiment data are compared by simulation data, which proves the reliability of the model and gives a foundation for the coupling dynamical analyze and the optimization design of crankshaft system.

Abstract:A crankshaft system dynamic model for a 2.0L high speed direct injection car diesel engine was established,which was used for crankshaft torsional vibration analysis,bending vibration analysis and fatigue strength analysis.The results indicated that torsional vibration and bending vibration of this crankshaft assembly complied with design requirement and no torsional resonance occurred,the maximum torsional vibration angle is lower than 0.2°,and the minimum high-frequency fatigue safety coefficient is 1.324 at the front-end single order at rated speed,this diesel engine has good dynamic property and complied with operating requirement.

Abstract:Taking the crankshaft torsional vibration of engines as research object,we analyzed the effect of variation of damping ratio parameters of torsional vibration damper on the amplitude amplification coefficient of crankshaft torsional vibration. The design of variable damping torsional vibration damper was also carried out in this paper. The results show that after the variable damping torsional vibration damper is installed,both the natural frequency and critical rotation speed of the system increase. When the optimal damping value is selected for every critical rotation speed of the variable damping torsional vibration damper,it will lead to an obvious reduction in torsional amplitude of different orders at crankshaft system free end,which improves the torsional vibration features of the engine,and indicates that it is effective to depress the torsional vibration by means of using variable damping torsional vibration damper.

Abstract:The torsional-bending damper,including a torsional damper and a bending damper,plays an important role in restraining torsional and bending vibration of the crankshaft so as to lower noise. Aiming at minimizing the torsional amplitude,the method to design the torsional-bending damper was investigated,and the influence of the parameters' deviation on the torsional amplitude was analyzed. Calculation results show that increasing the torsional damper's interia ratio and decreasing the bending damper's interia ratio would reduce the maximum peak of the torsional amplitude magnification curve;the deviation of parameters of bending damper's damping ratio and stiffness can increase the resonant peak value at a small degree,the deviation of the torsional damper's damping ratio and stiffness,however,would increase the peak value significantly.

Abstract:This paper presented the principle and method of calculation for the axial vibration based on Rayleigh differential method of crankshaft for a high speed diesel engine.At first,the internal combustion engine crankshaft was simplified to a continuous stepped shaft model and the kinetic formulas of shafts and masses were constructed.By means of the Lagrange formulation,the motion equation of torsional vibration and axial vibration were deduced.According to coupling principle and coupled excitation of the shafting system,a model of axial forced vibration can be constructed.Using a vector matrix,a single order or a whole system vibration can be analyzed.With a newly designed testing set-up,the axial vibration of the crankshaft at the free-end of a 4-cylinder diesel engine were measured.Compared with the practical measurement results,the calculated results are in agreement in main order.

Abstract:In order to further research dynamic characteristics of crankshaft under real circumstance,the multi-body dynamics model of engine crank gear is first set up.Based on the results from the multi-body dynamics analysis,the finite element analysis of crankshaft is accomplished,and then how the transition fillet influence on the maximum stress is analyzed.At last a one-cylinder crankshaft model is used to optimize the best crankshaft transition fillet.An exploration is made into the basic method to optimize design crankshaft using modern design tools.

Abstract:This paper presents a new method which combined multi-body dynamics theory and finite element technology to calculate transient stress of the crankshaft of the large-scale reciprocating compressor. On the basis of multi-body dynamics theory, the kinematical simulation of the crankshaft, the connecting rod, the piston and other components were performed, and thus to get the vibration modal of the crankshaft. So we can judge whether the crankshafts torsional resonance will happen, as well as get the real loads on the crankshaft when it worked. Then the transient stress of the crankshaft can be calculated using finite element technology. Comparing to traditional stress calculating methods, this new method not only considers the variable inertia which caused by reciprocating masss movement, but also can calculate the integrated vibration stress of crankshaft in three directions, including torsion, lateral and axial. Therefore, this method can describe dynamic characteristics of the crankshaft more accurately and more entirely.

Abstract:Damping is an important aspect of structural dynamics and machine operations. In this paper, ‘active’ and ‘passive’ dampers are proposed and incorporated with mechanical structures to evaluate their effectiveness on structural dynamics using finite element method. An active damper element with nonlinear stiffness and damping approximated by polynomial functions is defined. A passive rubber damper is also implemented in a similar way, i.e. a rubber element using a standard linear model. Examples are presented to demonstrate the feasibility.

Abstract:The cranktrain and cylinder assemble multi-body dynamics model using the stiffness and mass matrix were established with Excite powered by AVL.The each journal orbits and oil film pressure were obtained considering the elastic hydro dynamic bearing characteristics.The global finite element model was calculated by using the finite element analysis(FEA) submodel method.Then the critical pin fillet of the last crankweb was driven by the crankweb's global model for calculating the stress history in an engine cycle.The dynamic fatigue safety factor of the critical fillet was obtained by using the strain-life fatigue model and fatigue strength comparison factor was evaluated with component design standard.The simulation results of the crankshaft modal parameters and the torsion vibration in running condition were compared by the experimental results.The method for crankshaft dynamics fatigue analysis showed good accuracy and efficiency.

Abstract:A stepped shaft is used as a basic model that is more popular in engineering practice.The partial differential equations of torsional wave propagating along the stepped shaft are set up.The initial conditions,boundary conditions and reflection,transmissions of elastic wave in varying cross-section are considered.The wave solutions of motion equation are derived in order to determine dynamic response in cross-section of the shaft.Meanwhile,the torsional elastic wave propagation theory is applied for dynamic response investigation of continuous distribution model of shaft system in ship diesel engine.Every order exciting force can be considered in the meantime.Response of the force vibration in resonance and non-resonance condition can be calculated exactly.The processor of torsional vibration calculation and measurement is similar.

Abstract:The crankshaft is one of the essential components of an internal combustion engine that converts the piston's linear motion into the crank's rotary motion. This research has been carried out to study the failure analysis of diesel engine crankshafts, and forged steel material is selected. A crankshaft's geometry is relatively complex compared to other parts; its working conditions are critical, and the stress concentration areas are very complicated. While considering all these phenomena, it is significant that a crankshaft's fatigue strength, stiffness, durability, and wear resistance should be checked and analyzed properly. Firstly, a 3D model of the crankshaft is designed using SolidWorks 2022 software. After that, the Model is imported to ANSYS software 2022 R2 student version. However, using ANSYS (finite element method) is carried out on the crankshaft’s Model. This research aims to obtain the variation in stress magnitude at critical locations of the crankshaft by applying variable loads and boundary conditions. Simulation techniques were conducted for both static and dynamic analysis. The total deformation observed at the critical area of the crank pin is 1.3488e-8. The corresponding equivalent stress is 318.37, and the crankshaft's safety factor is 15.
