Abstract:To discuss the feasibility of the magnesium rod combined with porous mineralized collagen plug in site preservation in dogs. Both mandibular third premolars of 5 mongrel dogs were extracted, then a total of 20 alveolar sockets were randomly divided into A, B two groups. The group A was immediately implanted the magnesium rod with porous mineralized collagen plug, while group B was implanted the porous mineralized collagen plug only. The healing of sockets was evaluated by gross observation, biomechanical test, photographs of spiral CT and X-ray microscopes. 12 weeks after operation, the three-point bending strength of newly formed bone in group A was higher than that of group B, while the bone mineral density of group A was less than that of group B. The difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). 24 weeks after operation, the three-point bending strength of newly formed bone in group A was higher than that in group B. The difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05), but the new bone formation and bone mineral density did not have statistically significant between two groups. The magnesium rod combined with porous mineralized collagen plug could provide mechanical support in the process of osteogenesis, reduce the absorption of alveolar ridge, and preserve the socket site.
