Abstract:A silver-catalyzed Minisci-type acylation reaction is reported here. Acylation of electron-deficient N-heterocycles is achieved in aqueous solution through dehydrogenation cross-coupling of aldehydes and N-heteroarenes in open air without external Brønsted acid. Selectfluor® is used as a mild oxidant. This method has been successfully employed in acylation of a variety of N-heteroarenes with aldehydes. This strategy provides an efficient and mild method for acylation of N-heteroarenes.

Abstract:<p>Silver-catalyzed decarboxylative C–H alkylation of cyclic aldimines with abundant aliphatic carboxylic acids has been realized under mild reaction conditions generating the corresponding products in moderate to good yields (32%-91%). In addition, a gram-scale reaction, late-stage modification of drug, synthetic transformation of the product, and further application of the catalytic strategy were also performed. Preliminary studies indicate that the reaction undergoes a radical process.</p>

Abstract:A novel silver-catalyzed decarboxylative acylation of alpha-oxo-carboxylic acids was developed, by which various 3-acyl quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones were synthesized by direct C-H bond acylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones. In this method, alpha-oxo-carboxylic acids served as efficient acylating reagents to in situ generate the required active acyl radical. Its excellent chemoselectivity allowed the molecular diversity of 3-acyl quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones to be achieved by convenient functionalizations of both N1- and C3-positions.

Abstract:A gentle and effective method for the photocatalytic dual functionalization of allenes with high regio- and stereoselectivity using a nonmetallic catalyst is described. Inexpensive and easily available sulfinates and TMSN3 were employed as sulfone and azido sources, respectively. The method is characterized by satisfactory substrate compatibility and tolerance toward functional groups. The straightforward initial mechanistic experiments suggested that the reaction could follow a radical pathway. The synthesis of vinylsulfone azide derivatives presented here offers a promising scaffold for the future development of vinyl sulfone-based drugs and functional bioorthogonal reagents.

Abstract:Oximes and oxime ethers are privileged building blocks and can be conveniently converted to ketones, amines, hydroxylamines, and nitriles. We describe the catalytic decarboxylation of aliphatic carboxylic acids to oxime ethers. With AgNO3 as the catalyst, valuable oxime ethers bearing various substituents could be easily obtained. The broad substrate scope, easy accessibility of aliphatic carboxylic acids, and mild reaction conditions make this strategy immediately applicable to the synthesis, late-stage functionalization, and modification of biologically active compounds. Experimental studies show the reaction undergoes a radical process.

Abstract:Aliphatic alcohols are common and bulk chemicals in organic synthesis. The site-selective functionalization of non-activated aliphatic alcohols is attractive but challenging. Herein, we report a silver-catalyzed δ-selective Csp3-H bond functionalization of abundant and inexpensive aliphatic alcohols. Valuable oximonitrile substituted alcohols are easily obtained by using well-designed sulphonyl reagents under simple and mild conditions. This protocol realizes the challenging δ-selective C-C bond formation of simple alkanols.

Abstract:An electrophotochemical dual metal-catalyzed protocol for decarboxylative arylation of simple aliphatic carboxylic acids with aryl halides is reported. The relative stabilities of catalytically active metal complexes simultaneously generated at anode and cathode are the key design elements for the success of this convergent paired electrolysis. This new electrophotocatalytic method is mild, robust, and most importantly, capable of accommodating simple primary aliphatic acids including acetic acid - ubiquitous and variegated structural motifs yet remain oddly challenging substrates - directly as native functional groups for decarboxylative C(sp2 )-C(sp3 ) bond formation.

Abstract:Four novel N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) silver complexes, , have been synthesized and characterized. The single X-ray crystal diffraction data indicate a dinuclear solid-state structure for and and a mononuclear structure for and . These complexes have been successfully used as efficient catalysts for the C-H activating carboxylation of terminal alkynes with CO2. A wide range of substrates with various functional groups afforded the corresponding aryl or alkyl substituted propiolic acids in good yields under mild conditions. Moreover, the role of bases and the reaction mechanism is thoroughly discussed.

Abstract:Given the importance and beneficial characteristics of aliphatic CF3 chiral compounds in modern chemistry, efficient strategies for their synthesis are highly sought after. While α-CF3 carboxylic acid is an emerging and easily accessible CF3-containing synthon, its use as a source of fluoroalkyl is highly challenging due to its high oxidation potential. Herein, we disclose a photoelectrocatalytic method for the direct and enantioselective decarboxylative cross-coupling of α-CF3 carboxylic acids. Key to our approach is the strategic integration of LMCT-induced decarboxylative process with classical nickel catalysis. This strategy enables the efficient synthesis of aliphatic chiral CF3 compounds with a broad range of substrates.

Abstract:Comprehensive Summary A direct oxidative radical decarboxylative cyanomethylation of carboxylic acids is described using 3‐azido‐2‐methylbut‐3‐en‐2‐ol as the carbon‐centered radical acceptor. The transformation is applicable to structurally diverse α‐amino acids, α‐oxy acids, α‐keto acids, pentofuranuronic acids, and hexopyranuronic acids. The mechanistic investigations suggest that a radical process is involved in the transformation. Abstract:Azidation of alkenes is an efficient protocol to synthesize organic azides which are important structural motifs in organic synthesis. Enantioselective radical azidation, as a useful strategy to install a C-N-3 bond, remains challenging due to the inherently instability and unique structure of radicals. Here, we disclose an efficient enantioselective radical carboazidation and diazidation of alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones and amides catalyzed by chiral N,N'-dioxide/Fe(OTf)(2) complexes. An array of substituted alkenes was transformed to the corresponding alpha-azido carbonyl derivatives in good to excellent enantioselectivities, benefiting the preparation of chiral alpha-amino ketones, vicinal amino alcohols, and vicinal diamines. Control experiments and mechanistic studies proved the radical pathway in the reaction process. The DFT calculations showed that the azido transferred to the radical intermediate via an intramolecular five-membered transition state with the internal nitrogen of the Fe-N-3 species.
