Abstract:Integrated hybrid nanoarrays with hierarchical porous structures have attracted much attention as energy materials for their excellent synergistic effects. Herein, we provide a facile strategy for integrating a NiCo2S4@Ni3S2 hybrid nanoneedle array on nickel foam derived from metal-organic framework (MOF) precursors and a Ni/Co-precursor by sulfurization. When directly used as the free-standing electrode for a supercapacitor, the NiCo2S4@Ni3S2 electrode exhibited a high specific capacitance of 1536.8 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1). Furthermore, the assembled NiCo2S4@Ni3S2//AC asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) exhibited a high energy density of 35.26 W h kg(-1) at a power density of 724.93 W kg(-1). The capacitance retention of NiCo2S4@Ni3S2 was up to 97.4% after 10000 cycles.

Abstract:Co3O4@CoNi-layered double hydroxide (LDH) core/shell nanosheet array on Ni foam was prepared as an integrated battery-type electrode for supercapacitors by growth of CoNi-LDH nanosheets shell on the surface of Co3O4 plates core. The resulting composite material exhibits high specific capacitance (2676.9 F g(-1) at 0.5 A g(-1)) and excellent cycling stability. The improved electrochemical behavior is benefited from the typical mesoporous structure, which shorten the diffusion distance of OH-in the electrolyte and the strong core/shell binding interaction among Co3O4 and CoNi-LDH nanosheet arrays. Additionally, an assembled asymmetric supercapacitor (ASCs) device using as-fabricated Co3O4@CoNi-LDH as positive electrode and activated carbon (AC) as negative electrode also exhibits a high energy density of 61.23 Wh kg(-1) at a high power density of 750 W kg(-1), furthermore, still remains 24.8 Wh kg(-1) even at a higher power density of 7500 W kg(-1). Most importantly, a red light-emitting diode (LED) can be illuminated by two connected ASCs, indicating that assynthesized Co3O4@ CoNi-LDH possesses great potential for practical applications. As a result, this work demonstrates a feasible strategy for the design and fabrication of metal oxides/LDH composites for applications in energy storage systems.

Abstract:One-dimensional micro-/nanostructure arrays with excellent synergistic effect have attracted considerable interest for their potential applications in energy storge and conversion devices. In this work, the uniform ZIF-67 rhombic dodecahedron penetrated CoMn-LDH nanoneedle arrays were firstly synthesized and then transformed into shish-kebab type MnCo2O4@Co3O4 nanoneedle arrays by thermal annealing in air. The resulting nanoneedle arrays exhibit high specific capacitance (1440C cm(-2) at 1.0 mA cm(-2)) and excellent cycling stability while evaluated as promising electrodes for battery-type supercapacitor. An assembled asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device using MnCo2O4@Co3O4 as positive electrode and activated carbon (AC) as negative electrode also exhibits a high energy density of 31 Wh kg(-1) at a power density of 208.5 W kg(-1), furthermore, still remains 14.6 Wh kg(-1) even at a higher power density of 3326.6 W kg(-1). Importantly, a red light-emitting diode (LED) can be illuminated about 6 min, indicating a great potential for practical applications of the ASC. Besides, the MnCo2O4@Co3O4 exhibits much better electrocatalytic activity for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). As a result, this work demonstrates a feasible strategy for the design and fabrication of 1D shish-kebab type nanoneedle arrays with multiple functions.

Abstract:Transition metal sulfides are promising electrode materials for supercapacitors (SCs), but they still suffer from sluggish electrochemical kinetics and volume changes during the electrochemical process. Herein, two-dimensional (2D) nickel metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF) nanosheets coated on MnS hollow microspheres to form a MnS@Ni-MOF p-n heterojunction have been constructed for SCs. The core-shell structure can provide abundant electroactive sites and void space benefits electrolyte ions diffusion. The charge redistribution in the p-n junction can form space-charge regions and a built-in field therein, which facilitates charge transfer, thereby enhancing intrinsic activity. Benefiting from these advantages, the optimal MnS@Ni-MOF-5 (12 h) displays outstanding specific capacity (687.0 C g(-1) at1 A g(-1)), surpassing solitary MnS or Ni-MOF. Besides, the asymmetric SC comprising MnS@Ni-MOF-5 (12 h) demonstrates satisfactory energy density (maximal 28.7 W h kg(-1)) and stability (86.2%, 10,000 cycles at 5 A g(-1)).
Rapid Synthesis of Mn-Doped NiFe2O4 Nanosheet Arrays for High-Performance Hybrid Supercapacitors

Abstract:This research presents an innovative approach to the in-situ fabrication of Mn-doped NiFe2O4 (Mn-NiFe2O4) nanosheet arrays directly on nickel foam substrates. The formation of precursors on the nickel foam substrates is achieved through spontaneous corrosion, followed by a thermal treatment to form the Mn-NiFe2O4 nanosheet arrays. The material's structure and morphology were thoroughly examined, revealing that the addition of Mn transforms the nanoporous structure on the nickel foam into a nanosheet structure. The average thickness of the nanosheets is 30 nm, and their primary composition is Mn-doped NiFe2O4. The resulting highly porous structure of these nanosheets provides numerous active sites and effective electron and ion diffusion channels, thereby increasing charge density and mechanical stability. Electrochemical assays show that the areal-specific capacity of the synthesized electrode material reaches 4.34 C cm(-2) (areal-specific capacitance is 8.68 F cm(-2)) at 1 mA cm(-2). Notably, the constructed hybrid supercapacitor achieves a power density of 544 mu W cm(-2) at an energy density of 390 mu Wh cm(-2). Furthermore, capacitance retention is 95.2% after 5000 charging cycles. Additionally, the assembled device delivers robust and sustained energy output for LED displays and electric toy cars. This method streamlines the production flow of electrode materials, reducing energy consumption while significantly enhancing the areal capacitance of supercapacitors. The assembled hybrid supercapacitor structure diagram and the assembled devices provide power sources for electric toy cars and LED displays.

Abstract:In this work, the novel hierarchical FeCo2O4@MnO2 core-shell nanosheet arrays have been synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method, which are grown directly on a flexible carbon fiber (CF) as an integrated electrode for supercapacitors. Scanning electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy measurements illustrate that MnO2 nanoflakes uniformly wrap around the surface of two-dimensional FeCo2O4 nanosheets. The electrode exhibits high areal capacitance of 4.8Fcm-2 at a current density of 1mAcm-2. Moreover, an asymmetric FeCo2O4@MnO2//active carbon (AC) cell is successfully fabricated. The asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) displays high energy density/power density (22.68Whkg-1 at 406.01Wkg-1 and 7.06Whkg-1 at 1802.5Wkg-1), as well as excellent cycling stability with 90.1% of the initial capacitance after 5000 continuous cycles. Moreover, two ASCs connected in series can light a LED. These performances demonstrate great potential of the designed ASC in the field of energy storage due to their remarkable electrochemical properties.

Abstract:With the continuous development of green energy, society is increasingly demanding advanced energy storage devices. Manganese-based asymmetric supercapacitors (ASCs) can deliver high energy density while possessing high power density. However, the structural instability hampers the wider application of manganese dioxide in ASCs. A novel MnO2-based electrode material was designed in this study. We synthesized a MnO2/carbon cloth electrode, CC@NMO, with NH4+ ion pre-intercalation through a one-step hydrothermal method. The pre-intercalation of NH4+ stabilizes the MnO2 interlayer structure, expanding the electrode stable working potential window to 0–1.1 V and achieving a remarkable mass specific capacitance of 181.4 F g−1. Furthermore, the ASC device fabricated using the CC@NMO electrode and activated carbon electrode exhibits excellent electrochemical properties. The CC@NMO//AC achieves a high energy density of 63.49 Wh kg−1 and a power density of 949.8 W kg−1. Even after cycling 10,000 times at 10 A g−1, the device retains 81.2% of its capacitance. This work sheds new light on manganese dioxide-based asymmetric supercapacitors and represents a significant contribution for future research on them.

Advanced binder-free electrodes based on CoMn2O4@Co3O4 core/shell nanostructures for high-performance supercapacitors

Abstract:Three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical CoMn2O4@Co3O4 core/shell nanoneedle/nanosheet arrays for high-performance supercapacitors were designed and synthesized on Ni foam by a two-step hydrothermal route. The hybrid nanostructure exhibits much more excellent capacitive behavior compared with either the pristine CoMn2O4 nanoneedle arrays alone or Co3O4 nanosheets alone. The formation of an interconnected pore hybrid system is quite beneficial for the facile electrolyte penetration and fast electron transport. The CoMn2O4@Co3O4 electrode can achieve a high specific capacitance of 1627 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 and 1376 F g-1 at 10 A g-1. In addition, an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) was assembled by using the CoMn2O4@Co3O4 core/shell hybrid nanostructure arrays on Ni foam as a positive electrode and activated carbon as a negative electrode in an aqueous 3 M KOH electrolyte. A specific capacitance of 125.8 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 (89.2% retention after 5000 charge/discharge cycles at a current density of 2 A g-1) and a high energy density of 44.8 W h kg-1 was obtained. The results indicate that the obtained unique integrated CoMn2O4@Co3O4 nanoarchitecture may show great promise as ASC electrodes for potential applications in energy storage.
Cobalt-Nickel Layered Double Hydroxides on Electrospun MXene for Superior Asymmetric Supercapacitor Electrodes

Abstract:Flexible electrodes for energy storage and conversion require a micro-nanomorphology and stable structure. Herein, MXene fibers (MX-CNF) are fabricated by electrospinning, and Co-MOF nanoarrays are prepared on the fibers to form Co-MOF@MX-CNF. Hydrolysis and etching of Co-MOF@MX-CNF in the Ni2+ solution produce cobalt-nickel layered double hydroxide (CoNi-LDH). The CoNi-LDH nanoarrays on the MX-CNF substrate have a large specific surface area and abundant electrochemical active sites, thus ensuring effective exposure of the CoNi-LDH active materials to the electrolyte and efficient pseudocapacitive energy storage and fast reversible redox kinetics for enhanced charging-discharging characteristics. The CoNi-LDH@MX-CNF electrode exhibits a discharge capacity of 996 F g-1 at a current density of 1 A g-1 as well as 78.62% capacitance retention after 3,000 cycles at 10 A g-1. The asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) comprising the CoNi-LDH@MX-CNF positive electrode and negative activated carbon electrode shows an energy density of 48.4 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 499 W kg-1 and a capacity retention of 78.9% after 3,000 cycles at a current density of 10 A g-1. Density-functional theory calculations reveal the charge density difference and partial density of states of CoNi-LDH@MX-CNF confirming the large potential of the CoNi-LDH@MX-CNF electrode in energy storage applications.

Abstract:In the field of energy storage, supercapacitors have received extensive attention in recent years. However, achieving the expected electrochemical performance and energy density of supercapacitors is still a huge challenge. The design and synthesis of binder-free composite electrode with core-shell structure is an effective strategy to improve the electrochemical performance of supercapacitors. In this paper, a heterogeneous core-shell structured and binder-free electrode material MgCo2O4@Ni(OH)2 (MCO@NH) grown on nickel foam (NF) is prepared by a simple hydrothermal and oil bath method. The unique core-shell structure makes the MCO@NH have a large specific surface area, which provides abundant active sites for ion transport and storage, thereby improving the electrochemical performance. The MCO@NH/NF nanocomposite demonstrates a high specific capacitance (Cs) of 1583 F g-1 at 1 A/g. A solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) assembled with MCO@NH/NF and active carbon (AC) exhibits excellent energy density (45 Wh kg-1 at 457.5 W kg-1) and outstanding capacitance (89.51 %) and coulombic efficiency (97.8 %) after 12,000 cycles, evidencing its good operation stability and potential practical applications. Therefore, the prepared core-shell MCO@NH/NF electrode can be a promising candidate for energy storage devices.
In-Situ Synthesis of Heterostructured Carbon-Coated Co/MnO Nanowire Arrays for High-Performance Anodes in Asymmetric Supercapacitors

Abstract:Structural design is often investigated to decrease the electron transfer depletion in/on the pseudocapacitive electrode for excellent capacitance performance. However, a simple way to improve the internal and external electron transfer efficiency is still challenging. In this work, we prepared a novel structure composed of cobalt (Co) nanoparticles (NPs) embedded MnO nanowires (NWs) with an N-doped carbon (NC) coating on carbon cloth (CC) by in situ thermal treatment of polydopamine (PDA) coated MnCo2O4.5 NWs in an inert atmosphere. The PDA coating was carbonized into the NC shell and simultaneously reduced the MnCo2O4.5 to Co NPs and MnO NWs, which greatly improve the surface and internal electron transfer ability on/in MnO boding well supercapacitive properties. The hybrid electrode shows a high specific capacitance of 747 F g−1 at 1 A g−1 and good cycling stability with 93% capacitance retention after 5,000 cycles at 10 A g−1. By coupling with vanadium nitride with an N-doped carbon coating (VN@NC) negative electrode, the asymmetric supercapacitor delivers a high energy density of 48.15 Wh kg−1 for a power density of 0.96 kW kg−1 as well as outstanding cycling performance with 82% retention after 2000 cycles at 10 A g−1. The electrode design and synthesis suggests large potential in the production of high-performance energy storage devices.

Abstract:The fabrication of electrode materials with a high specific capacitance is essential for the development of enhanced performance supercapacitors. A novel binder-free electrode material, composed of MnS/Ni3S2 and Co(OH)2, was synthesized on nickel foam by hydrothermal, sulfuration, and electrodeposition techniques. The MnS/Ni3S2 exhibited a unique flower-like structure, resulting in a high specific capacitance of 1780 F g−1 at 1 A/g. By optimizing the synthesis conditions through several characterization and electrochemical tests, the MnS/Ni3S2@Co(OH)2 composite was obtained, which displayed an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 2495 F g−1 at 1 A/g and a capacitance retention rate of 86.1% after 5000 cycles at 10 A/g in three-electrode system. The synergistic coupling of MnS/Ni3S2 and Co(OH)2, along with the conductive nickel foam substrate, donated towards the excellent electrochemical performance. Furthermore, the MnS/Ni3S2@Co(OH)2//AC asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device was constructed with MnS/Ni3S2@Co(OH)2 as positive electrode, activated carbon (AC) as negative electrode and 1 M KOH solution as electrolyte, demonstrated a high energy density of 68.6 Wh kg−1 at 750 W kg−1 and excellent cycle stability with 91.2% capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles at 15 A/g. The outstanding electrochemical properties observed in both the pre-electrodeposition and post-electrodeposition samples indicate the effectiveness of reasonable design and construction of composite as a pathway for producing electrode materials with exceptional performance.

Abstract:The present study successfully synthesized NiCo2S4 nanotubes@NiMn-LDH nanosheets core-shell hybrid structure on Ni foam through a controllable three-step facile hydrothermal method, the NiMn-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) nanosheets with unlike thicknesses adhere to the outer layer of NiCo2S4 nanotubes by adjusting the heating time of hydrothermal reaction. The optimized NiCo2S4@NiMn-LDH electrode was able to transmit a high specific capacity of 822.64 C g−1 (4.36 C cm−2) at a high current density of 50 mA cm−2, and maintained 92.7% of its initial specific capacity after 5000 cycles at a current density of 50 mA cm−2 when 2 M KOH was used as the electrolyte. Furthermore, an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device fabricated with NiCo2S4@NiMn-LDH as the positive electrode and activated carbon (AC) as the negative electrode, and it achieved a maximal energy density of 53.10 W h kg−1 at a power density of 370.82 W kg−1 also maintained 94.3% retention of the initial specific capacitance after 10,000 cycles at a high current density of 20 mA cm−2. With the excellent electrochemical properties, the as-prepared core-shell structured NiCo2S4@NiMn-LDH hybrid arrays have extraordinary application potential in the energy storage field.

Electrochemical Performances of Asymmetric Super Capacitor Fabricated by One-Dimensional CoMoO4 Nanostructure

Abstract:We have prepared the CoMoO4 nanorods (NR) electrode with a specific capacitance (89.5 F g(-1)) at a current density of 1 mA cm(-2). Moreover, the asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) has been fabricated by using CoMoO4 NR as positive electrode and activated carbon (AC) as negative electrode. At a power density of 80mW cm(-3), the ASC can deliver an energy density of 0.226 mWh cm(-3) in the voltage range of 0-1.6 V. In addition, the CoMoO4 NR-based ASC device still remains a high energy density (84.07%) after 5000 cycles, demonstrating that one-dimensional nanostructures could be promising to achieve the high-energy- density materials. Oxygen vacancies enhancing hierarchical NiCo2S4@MnO2 electrode for flexible asymmetric supercapacitors

Abstract:The limited energy density of supercapacitors hampers their widespread application in electronic devices. Metal oxides, employed as electrode materials, suffer from low conductivity and stability, prompting extensive research in recent years to enhance their electrochemical properties. Among these efforts, the construction of core-shell heterostructures and the utilization of oxygen vacancy (VO) engineering have emerged as pivotal strategies for improving material stability and ion diffusion rates. Herein, core-shell composites comprising NiCo2S4 nanospheres and MnO2 nanosheets are grown in situ on carbon cloth (CC), forming nanoflower clusters while introducing VO defects through a chemical reduction method. Density functional theory (DFT) results proves that the existence of VO effectively enhances electronic and structural properties of MnO2, thereby enhancing capacitive properties. The electrochemical test results show that NiCo2S4@MnO2-V3 exhibits excellent 1376 F g-1 mass capacitance and 2.06 F cm-2 area capacitance at 1 A g-1. Moreover, NiCo2S4@MnO2-V3//activated carbon (AC) asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) can achieve an energy density of 39.7 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 775 W kg-1, and maintains 15.5 Wh kg-1 even at 7749.77 W kg-1. Capacitance retention is 73.1 % after 10,000 cycles at 5 A g-1, and coulombic efficiency reaches 100 %, demonstrating satisfactory cycle stability. In addition, the device's excellent flexibility offers broad application prospects in wearable electronic applications.
ZnMnCo-S nanoneedle arrays as battery-type eletrodes for high-performance hybrid supercapacitors

Abstract:Transition metal sulfides are used in the field of supercapacitors due to their remarkable electrical conductivity and superior energy density. However, few research has been conducted on how the sulfidation process affects the structure and electrochemical properties of electrodes. The nanoneedle array Zn-Mn-Co sulfide (ZMC-S/NF) electrode is prepared by directly growing on nickel foam (NF) via a two-step hydrothermal technique. During the first step, the Zn-Mn-Co carbonate hydroxide nanoneedle skeleton can be obtained. During the second step, the nanoneedle skeletons are etched, and rough nanoneedle arrays are created by the introduced sulfur ions,i.e., the sulfidation process. The ZMC-S/NF electrode exhibits a specific capacity of 1401.0 C g −1 at 2 A g −1 . It still has excellent rate performance with a specific capacity of 1015.3 C g −1 at 20 A g −1 . Moreover, it exhibits excellent cycling stability with 81.9% capacity retention after 10,000 cycles. ZMC-S/NF as the cathode and activated carbon (AC) as the anode are assembled to be a hybrid supercapacitor (HSC), which has an energy density of 43.4 Wh kg −1 at a power density of 700.4 W kg −1 . The effect of adding Zn and Mn to the Co 3 S 4 on energy band structure and density of states during the sulfidation process is calculated by the DFT. The HSC devices constructed by two series-connected ZMC-S/NF//AC can light a star made by ten 1.8 V-red Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) for 10 minutes.

Three-Dimensional Nico2o4@Mnmoo4 Core-Shell Nanoarrays for High-Performance Asymmetric Supercapacitors

Abstract:Design of new materials with sophisticated nanostructure has been proven to be an efficient strategy to improve their properties in many applications. Herein, we demonstrate the successful combination of high electron conductive materials of NiCo2O4 with high capacitance materials of MnMoO4 by forming a core-shell nanostructure. The NiCo2O4@MnMoO4 core-shell nanoarrays (CSNAs) electrode possesses high capacitance of 1169 F g(-1) (4.24 F cm(-2)) at a current density of 2.5 mA cm(-2), obviously larger than the pristine NiCo2O4 electrode. The asymmetric supercapacitors (ASCs), assembled with NiCo2O4@MnMoO4 CSNAs as binder-free cathode and active carbon (AC) as anode, exhibit high energy density of 15 Wh kg(-1) and high power density of 6734 W kg(-1). Cycle performance of NiCo2O4@MnMoO4 CSNAs//AC ASCs, conducted at current density of 20 mA cm(-2), remain 96.45% of the initial capacitance after 10,000 cycles, demonstrating its excellent long-term cycle stability. Kinetically decoupled analysis reveals that the capacitive capacitance is dominant in the total capacitance of NiCo2O4@MnMoO4 CSNAs electrode, which may be the reason for ultra long cycle stability of ASCs. Our assembled button ASC can easily light up a red LED for 30 min and a green LED for 10 min after being charged for 30 s. The remarkable electrochemical performance of NiCo2O4@MnMoO4 CSNAs//AC ASCs is attributed to its enhanced surface area, abundant electroactive sites, facile electrolyte infiltration into the 3D NiCo2O4@MnMnO4 nanoarrays and fast electron and ion transport path.

Abstract:Layered double hydroxide (LDH), as an electrode material, consists of positively charged layers and interlayer hydrated anions and is endowed with promising prospects in supercapacitors (SCs) due to its large specific surface area, tunable metal ions, abundant redox active sites, and low cost. Moreover, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibit adjustable pore sizes, while multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) boast exceptional electrical conductivity. Hence, in this work, flower-like nickel/manganese layered double hydroxide (Ni/Mn-LDH) was introduced into nanohybrid of MWCNTs decorated with nickel metal-organic frameworks (Ni-MOFs/MWCNTs) to fabricate a novel Ni-MOFs/MWCNTs@Ni/Mn-LDH nanohybrid as electrode material for SCs using a two-step solvothermal method. In the composite structure of the novel Ni-MOFs/MWCNTs@Ni/Mn-LDH nanohybrid, the flower-like assembly of Ni/Mn-LDH nanosheets was seamlessly integrated with MWCNTs adorning the Ni-MOFs, creating an interconnected hierarchical porous network. This distinctive structure, coupled with the synergistic effects of its components, facilitated the swift diffusion of electrolyte ions. Furthermore, it enhanced the accessibility to more active sites at the interfaces during the redox process, thereby contributing considerably to an improved electrochemical performance. The specific capacity of the Ni-MOFs/MWCNTs@Ni/Mn-LDH nanohybrid as electrode material obtained at the optimal experimental conditions was 1151.0C g−1 at 1.0 A g−1. The assembled asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) had an energy density of 25.6 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 845.3 W kg−1. The fabrication strategy of the Ni-MOFs/MWCNTs@Ni/Mn-LDH could be extended to synthesize other nanohybrid.

Abstract:Herein, porous MnCo 2 O 4 with disc-like (MnCo 2 O 4 -discs) and ring-like (MnCo 2 O 4 -rings) microstructures were respectively synthesized using an initial hydrothermal method at different temperatures and a calcination treatment in air. The electrochemical properties of these MnCo 2 O 4 materials were investigated in three-electrode and two-electrode systems, and as such, MnCo 2 O 4 presented a battery-like electrochemical response. The specific capacity of MnCo 2 O 4 -discs was determined to be 296.1C/g at 1 A/g, superior to 246.3C/g for MnCo 2 O 4 -rings. An asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) was assembled with MnCo 2 O 4 as the cathode and activated carbon (AC) as the anode to evaluate the potential for practical application. The MnCo 2 O 4 -discs//AC ASC exhibited an energy density ( E d ) of 35.8 W h kg −1 at a power density ( P d ) of 927.5 W kg −1 . For the MnCo 2 O 4 -rings//AC ASC, an inferior E d of 31.4 W h kg −1 under 890.9 W kg −1 was achieved. Furthermore, the two ASCs presented outstanding cyclic performance after 5000 cycles at 6 A/g. The exceptional properties of MnCo 2 O 4 microstructures can be applied to the assembly of ASC devices, which can have promising potential for application in electrochemical energy storage. This synthetic method is straightforward, cost-effective, and can be extended to fabricate similar electrode materials with superior electrochemical performance.

Abstract:Flexible solid-state supercapacitors (SCs) have shown great potential in portable electronics. However, the development of MnO2-based electrodes for flexible SCs is hampered by the low energy density, especially on the whole electrode basis, as a result of the small mass loading and poor utilization of MnO2. Here high mass loading of 4.5mg/cm2 and large capacitance of 464F/g (2088 mF/cm2) for MnO2 nanograsses were achieved by taking use of porous carbon cloth (TCC) which has large specific surface area. Benefiting from the full utilization of MnO2, high energy density of 841 μWh/cm2 and robust cyclic stability (96% capacitance retention after 20000 cycles) are achieved by assembling an efficient asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) with 2V operating voltage. These results open up new paths for developing high-performance electrode materials and applying for advanced energy storage devices.
