Abstract:Non-centrosymmetric superconductors, whose crystal structure is absent of inversion symmetry, have recently received special research attentions due to the expectation of unconventional pairings and exotic physics associated with such pairings. However, it is largely unknown whether the absence of the inversion symmetry plays a role in their pairing mechanisms. In this study, we are the first to report the finding through high pressure studies that the superconductivity has a strong positive correlation with the degree of non-centrosymmetry in the newly discovered superconductors A2Cr3As3 (A=K, Rb), featured by the quasi-one dimensional non-centrosymmetric structure with conducting CrAs chains. Our data from in-situ high pressure ac susceptibility and synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements demonstrate that the two lattice parameters, i.e. the difference of the two distinct As-Cr-As bond angles in the CrAs chains and the distance between the chains, determine the superconductivity cooperatively. Our results suggest that the non-centrosymmetry is essential in developing superconductivity in these Q1D superconductors. The achieved data not only shed a new light on the underlying mechanism of the superconductivity in these Q1D superconductors but also provide new perspective to understand the physics in the other non-centrosymmetric superconductors.
