Abstract:Four coordination polymers, namely, Co(HIMB)2 (1), Cd(HIMB)2·2.58H2O (2), Cd2 (TAB)2·3H2O (3) and Zn2 (TAB)2·H2O (4) (H2IMB = 4,4’-((1H-imidazole-1-yl)methylene)dibenzoic acid and H2TAB = 4,4’-((4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)azanediyl)dibenzoic acid), have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric (TG) analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. In 1, each Co(II) ion is linked by four partially deprotonation HIMB anions to generate a typical three-dimensional (3D) 2-fold interpenetrating diamondoid network. Complex 2 exhibits a rare 3D (3,6)-connected framework with sit topology. Complex 3 features a predocumented 3D (4,8)-connected net with (410.615.83) (45.6)2 topology, whereas complex 4 displays a scarce 3D framework with (3,3,6,6)-connected (63)4 (66.88.10) (66.89) topology. A comparison of all complexes suggested that the structural diversity of the complexes could be tuned by altering the metal ion and organic ligand. The thermal stabilities and photoluminescent properties in the solid state for complexes 1–4 have been discussed. Moreover, the photodegradation properties of four complexes have also investigated.

Abstract:Two Cu4I4 coordination polymers, [Cu2I2(aadtz)](n) (1) and [Cu2I(dtz)](n) (2) [aadtz = 4-[(1-aminoethylidene)-amino]-3,5-diethyl-1,2,4-triazole, dtz = 3,5-diethyl-1,2,4-triazole], were synthesized in a one-pot reaction of CuI and 4-amino-3,5-diethyl-1,2,4-triazole under solvothermal conditions. The organic components were generated in situ from a common triazolate source. The structures of the Cu4I4 units in the polymers are different. The Cu4I4 cluster in complex 1 is an inorganic 8-membered ring with a chair-chair conformation, while the one in complex 2 is a distorted cubane. The topologies of the complexes were assigned as a two-dimensional 4-connected grid for 1 and a three-dimensional (3,4)-connected jph-type framework for 2. In addition, the luminescent properties of the complexes in the solid state were also investigated.

Abstract:By using a semi-rigid multidentate carboxylate linker 4,4',4 ''-(((2,4,6-trimethylbenzene-1,3,5-triyl)tris(methylene)) tris(oxy))tribenzoic acid (H3L), four coordination polymers, namely, [Cd-3(L)(2)(H2O)(4)]center dot(guest) (1), [Mn-3(L)(2)(DMF)(2)(H2O)(2)]center dot(guest) (2), [Co-7(L)(4)(DMF)(6)(COOH)(2)]center dot(guest) (3), and [Zn-3(L)(2)(DMF)(2)(H2O)(3)]center dot(guest) (4), were obtained and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric and photoluminescent studies. Compound 1 is a two-dimensional (2-D) hcb-type layered structure made of rare, interlocked double-layered honeycomb sheets. Compound 2 is a doubly-interpenetrating (3,6)-connected 3-D network, in which L and Mn-3 act as triangle and trigonal prismatic nodes, respectively. Compound 3 has a (4,12)-connecting 3-D polycatenated network made of a rare four-ladder 2-D sheet, in which the Co-7 cluster is considered as a 12-connecting node and the ligand L3- is a 3-connecting node. Similar to 1, compound 4 also possesses a 2-D hcb-type layered structure, but it is built from two interpenetrating single sheets. Compounds 1 and 4 exhibited strong blue photoluminescent emissions at room temperature upon excitation, owing to a ligand-centered excited state. The emission intensities of the two compounds varied upon contact with different solvents or analytes, exhibiting selective emission quenching responses towards nitroaromatics.

Abstract:An asymmetric ligand, 4,4'-([2,3'-bipyridine]-4,6-diyl)dibenzoic acid (H2L) was successfully used to construct four new coordination polymers, namely [M(HL)(2)](n))2] (M = Cd(1), Co(2), Zn(3)) and [Ni(L)(H2O)(2)]n center dot H2O (4), which were solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. In coordination polymers 1-4, two ligands bridge two metal centres through carboxylate oxygen atoms and pyridyl nitrogen atoms to form a rhombic grid motif. Amongst, each rhombic grid connects to adjacent ones through the metal nodes to construct spirolike 1D chain of 1-3 with the partially deprotonated 2-connected HL- ligands, whereas, the completely deprotonated 3- connected L2- ligands make rhombic grids construct 2D network of 4. The various structure/dimensionality of 1-4 essentially originates from the types of organic solvents, because dipolar DMF solvent results in complete deprotonated L2- in 4, conversely, polar NMP and MeCN only cause partial deprotonation of ligand in 1-3. Interestingly, an enhanced luminescence appears in 1 and 3, compared to H2L ligand, while 2 and 4 reveal antiferromagnetic behaviors. Moreover, the sensing experiments indicate that 1 and 3 possess luminescent quenching effects on sensing nitrobenzene. This work provides a promising approach to design and construct new coordination polymers with tunable structure/dimensionality by using different organic solvents.

Abstract:The solvothermal reactions of 1,1'-oxybis[3,5-di-4-pyridine]-benzene (L) and transition metal cations (Co and Ni) afford five novel coordination polymers in the presence of flexible bridging ligands (4,4'-H2nba = 4,4'-dicarboxydiphenylamine, H2cam = d-camphoric acid, 4,4'-H2sdb = 4,4'-sulfonyldibenzoic acid, H2chdc = 1,4-trans-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid), namely {[Co2L2(OH)2(nba)]·2DMF}n (), {[CoL(cam)(H2O)]}n (), {[Co3(L)(4,4'-sdb)3(H2O)]·1.5CH3CN·4H2O}n (), {[Ni3(L)(4,4'-sdb)3(H2O)]·1.5CH3CN·4H2O}n (), and {[Ni2L2(chdc)2(H2O)2]·(H2O)3}n () (DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide). Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction. Complex reveals a 2-fold interpenetrating three-dimensional (3D) framework with the Schläfli symbol {4·8·10(4)}{4·8·10} topology. Compound crystallizes in the achiral space group with the d-camphorate ligand racemized. Compounds and reveal similar structure with the {3·4(4)·6}{3(2)·4(8)·5(9)·6(9)} topology based on a linear trinuclear building block M3(OOCR)6 (M = Co(ii) or Ni(ii)). Compound is a wavy sheet, where both carboxylate and L ligands act as bidentate ligands. Moreover, UV-Visible absorption spectra of complexes , and the magnetic properties of have been investigated.

Abstract:Two new copper complexes [Cu-4(I)(L2)I-5](n) (1, L2 = 3,5-bis(1-ethylpyridinium-4-yl)-1,2,4-triazol-4-ide) and [Cu-6(I)(L3)(3)Br-3](n) (2, L3 = 3,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazolate) were obtained from the solvothermal reactions of different copper halides with 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (L1) in the presence of aqueous ammonia. The X-ray diffraction, IR spectrum and elemental analyses of 1 and 2 clearly show that the 1,3,4-oxadiazole ligand L1 has transformed into the triazolate ligands L2 and L3. Most fascinatingly, 1 represents the first example of an integrated reaction system involving heterocyclic conversion from oxadiazole to triazolate, N-alkylation, and further self-assembly of the in situ generated ligand L2 with metal cations to form a coordination polymer in one solvothermal spot. The possible formation mechanism of 1 is proposed, and in addition, the interesting topologies and luminescence properties of 2 are studied based on the results of the DFT calculations.

Abstract:Coordination polymers have received considerable attention for their fascinating architectures and potential applications. It is well-known that several factors influence the final structures of desired coordination polymers. In this work, four new coordination polymers [Mn(L)(bpy)]·H2O (1), [Co(L)(bpy)]·H2O (2), [Cd(L)(bpy)]·H2O (3), and [Zn(L)(bpy)]·H2O (4) were constructed by (3-carboxyl-phenyl)-(4-(2’-carboxyl-phenyl)-benzyl) ether (H2L) and 2,2’-bipyridine (bpy). Their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by IR spectra, elemental analyses, and thermogravimetric analyses. The results exhibit that the structures of compounds 1-3 are essentially isomorphic and display similar ladder-like double-chain structures. The adjacent chains are extended to the 2D supramolecular layer by intermolecular π-π interactions. Compound 4 shows a 0D metallomacrocyclic structure, which can penetrate adjacent metallomacrocyclic to generate a 0D → 1D interdigitated architecture. Furthermore, the interdigitated supramolecular chains are extended to the 2D supramolecular structure by the intermolecular π-π interactions. The results display the π-π interaction plays an important role in the final structures of coordination polymers.

Abstract:Four novel In3+ and Cd2+ based 1D coordination compounds constructed by double betaine ligands were synthesized and characterized structurally and optically. They assemble into 3D supra‐molecular architectures via different stacking or entanglement of 1D zigzag shaped chains, in which C–H···Cl and C–H···O hydrogen bonding interactions play a dramatic impact. Compound 1 displays a 1D + 1D → 3D four‐connect lvt net with 42·84 topology. Compound 2 assembles into a 3D architecture by inclined stacking of the adjacent zigzag chains. Compound 3 displays a 2D + 2D → 3D inclined polycatenation based on the resulting 2D (6, 3) layers that constructed by 1D chains. Compound 4 displays a 3D supra‐molecular architecture based on 1D chains, which were connected via the hydrogen bonding. Meanwhile, four compounds emit in the range of visible region owing to the intra‐ligand π*→π and/or π*→n electron transition induced florescence.

Abstract:Three novel Co(II) based coordination polymers (CPs) are fabricated using the 5-(2-carboxylphenoxy)isophthalic acid (H3L) and different N-donor configuration under the solvothermal conditions, namely, [Co2(L)(1,4-bibt)(μ3OH)]n (1), [Co(HL)(4,4′-bidpe)]n (2), and [Co(HL)(tib)]n (3) (1,4-bibt = 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-yl)butane, 4,4′-bidpe = 4,4′-bis(imidazolyl)diphenylether, tib = 1,3,5-tris(1-imidazolyl)benzene). The configuration of 1–3 are confirmed by various characterization analysis. The CP 1 possesses an unprecedented (3,10)-connected 3D architecture with a unique tetranuclear [Co4(μ3OH)2(COO)4]2+cluster. Interestingly, when the H3L ligands are not calculated, the whole structure of N-donor still shows a 3-fold interpenetrating dia 3D framework (3D + 3D → 3D). Moreover, CPs 2 and 3 are 3D supramolecular structure with significant differences structures. The CP 2 shows a 2D sql uninodal 4-connected 2D network with the Schläfli symbol (44•62), while CP 3 exhibits an unprecedented 2D framework. And both 2 and 3 construct 3D supramolecular architecture through H-bonds between the two adjacent 2D networks. Comparing CPs 1–3 shows that the N-donor ligands play a key role in adjusting the final structures. Furthermore, the electrochemical behavior, magnetic properties and photocatalytic activity of 1–3 are also discussed in details.

Abstract:Four cadmium and cobalt coordination polymers with unique structures and topologies have been successfully synthesized under solvothermal conditions by employing an elongated triangular rigid N-containing ligand tris(4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl)amine (TIPA) and 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid (5-OH-H(2)bdc) as anion coligand. Compounds 1-4 were characterized by single crystal X-ray structure analyses, thermogravimetric analyses, SHG, and photoluminescent measurements. Compound I crystallizes in the chiral space group C2 (No. 5) and features a 2D -> 3D parallel/parallel inclined polycatenated framework. Compound 2 crystallizes in trigonal symmetry with a high-symmetry space group R (3) over bar and features a 2D porous noninterpenetrating coordination network. Compound 3 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n and shows a 2D -> 3D parallel/parallel polycatenation framework, and compound 4 crystallizes in the orthorhombic chiral space group P2,2,2, (No. 19) and shows a very rarely 3D + 3D heterogeneous 2-fold interpenetration framework built from (3,5)-connected (4(2).6(5).8(3))(4(2).6) AFUQOH nets and (3,5)-connected (6(3))(6(9).8) gra nets.

Abstract:A new flexible bowl-shaped zwitterionic complex, 1,1',1 "-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzene-1,3,5-triyl)tris(methylene)tris(4-carboxypyridinium) tribromide (H3LBr3) was designed and synthesized, which was subsequently used as an efficient ligand to construct four interesting coordination polymers of [Cu2Cl2L2(H2O)(2)]center dot Cl center dot Br center dot 4H(2)O (1), [ZnLBr]center dot NO3 center dot H2O (2), [Cd2L2Br2]center dot 2NO(3)center dot 4H(2)O (3), and [Cd2L2(Inic)(H2O)(4)(MeOH)(2)center dot Br center dot 2NO(3)center dot 3H(2)O (Inic = isonicotinlate, 4) by reaction of L ligand with corresponding metal salts or in the presence of isonicotinic acid. In these coordination polymers, L ligands link up metal nodes to form distinct linear networks. Two bowl mouths of two L ligands surround each other to form a ball-shaped building synthon in compounds 1 and 4, while the linear networks in 2 and 3 are in cylinder-shaped configurations. The luminescent spectra of L and compounds 1, 2, 3, and 4 suggested that the potential field around L ligand should be an important factor on the fluorescent emissions. The successful construction of the four novel coordination polymers based on the flexible zwitterionic L ligand should provide valuable information for further generation of novel topological networks with interesting properties.

Compounds 1-3 are isomorphous, built upon a 12-connecting linear M-7 cluster and a 3-connecting L3- ligand to form a polycatenated 3D network. 4 comprises of 3-connecting trigonal M-2 clusters and L3- linkers to form a 2D layered structure with hcb topology. The magnetic studies of the M-7-cluster compounds 1 and 3 show the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions between the M2+ ions in 1 and 3.

Complex 1 exhibits an unusual [2 + 2] interpenetrating diamond framework belonging to class IIIa with the point symbol 66. Complex 2 reveals a (3,4)-connected 3D framework with a unique double-stranded helical chain based on Cd-O-Cd and Cd-(COO)-Cd. Complex 3 presents a 4-fold interpenetrating 3D diamond framework belonging to class Illa with the point symbol 66. Complexes 4 and 5 display a 3D supramolecular architecture built on 2D stacked layers through hydrogen bonding and p-p interactions. Complex 6 also shows a 3D 4-fold interpenetrating diamond framework belonging to class Illa with the point symbol 66. Complex 7 features a 2D + 2D. 2D parallel polycatenated framework with the point symbol 4(4).6(2). The structural diversity of complexes 1-7 illustrate that a subtle change can have a marked effect on the crystal architectures. Moreover, the magnetic properties of complexes 1, 3, and 4, and the solid-state photoluminescence results for complexes 2, and 5-7 were also studied.

Abstract:The reactions of methylenediisophthalic acid (H4L) and N-auxiliary ligands (1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene, 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane) with transition-metal centers (Co2+/Mn2+) have given rise to four unprecedented polythreading coordination polymers. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses revealed that the compounds can be described as 3D2− ⊂2[1D2+] + 2D6− for 1, 3D4− ⊂1D2+ + 1D6− for 2, and 2D4− ⊂0D2+ + 2[1D3−] for 3 and 4. All the polymers are formed through the assembly of two kinds of motifs with opposite charges. Noncentrosymmetric structures and multifunctionality in 2–4 are established by varying ligands and metal centers. Spontaneous resolution upon crystallization occurred in compounds 3 and 4 in the absence of any chiral source. The enantiomers of 3 and 4 consist of three chiral building blocks of L4−/HL3− and Mn2+ centers. In the solid state, polar compounds 2–4 exhibit nonlinear-optic (NLO) and ferroelectric properties at room temperature. The assembly of two kinds of motifs with opposite charges provides a useful method for the preparation of multifunctional compounds.
Four New Coordination Polymers with a Y-shaped Tricarboxylic Acid Ligand: Structural Diversities, Luminescence Sensing and Magnetic Properties

Abstract:A new aromatic tricarboxylic acid with pyridine core, 4,4'-(4-(3-carboxyphenyl) pyridine-2,6-diyl)dibenzoic acid (H(3)cpdba), was used as a Y-shaped building block for the hydrothermal syntheses of four coordination polymers (CPs), namely [M(H(2)cpdba)(2)] (M = Zn, 1; Co, 2), [Zn-4(cpdba)(2)(mu-OH)(2)(PY)(4)]center dot H2O (3), and [Co-3(cpdba)(2)(py)(6)] (4). 1-4 were fully characterized by IR, elemental analyses, TGA, PXRD, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Their dimensionality ranges from 2D networks (1 and 2) to 3D frameworks (3 and 4), showing the dimensional/structural diversity of 1-4 is influenced by the level of deprotonation of H(3)cpdba ligand adjusted via organic solvent types, and the type of metal nodes (Zn-II or Co-II). Interestingly, 1 and 3 can serve as multi-responsive sensing materials for detecting Fe3+, Cr2O72- and nitrobenzene (NB). Moreover, the mechanism of the selective luminescence quenching response for Cr2O72- can be mainly ascribed to the competitive adsorption of excitation wavelength energy between 1 or 3 and Cr2O72-, meanwhile, Fe3+ ions and NB molecules contact with Lewis-base sites and aromatic rings respectively of H(3)cpdba ligand in 1 or 3, leading to the luminescent quenching. Furthermore, the magnetic properties of two Co-based CPs (2 and 4) have been investigated. Solvent-Induced Synthesis of Cobalt(Ii) Coordination Polymers Based on A Rigid Ligand and Flexible Carboxylic Acid Ligands: Syntheses, Structures and Magnetic Properties

Abstract:Five new cobalt(ii) coordination architectures, {[Co(L)2(H2O)2]·2H2O·2NO3}n (), {[Co(L)(ppda)]·2H2O}n (), {[Co2(L)(ppda)2]2·H2O}n (), {[Co(L)(nba)]·5H2O}n (), and {[Co(L)(oba)]2·3H2O}n (), have been constructed from the rigid ligand L [L = 2,8-di(1H-imidazol-1-yl)dibenzofuran] and different flexible carboxylic acid ligands [H2ppda = 4,4'-(perfluoropropane-2,2-diyl)dibenzoic acid, H2nba = 4,4'-azanediyldibenzoic acid, and H2oba = 4,4'-oxydibenzoic acid]. Depending on the nature of the solvent systems, these five different coordination polymers were synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, PXRD and elemental analysis. Compounds , and were obtained by a one-pot method, and then we utilized the solvent-induced effect to obtain almost pure crystals of , respectively. Compound is an infinite 1D chain which is formed by L ligands and Co atoms. Compound contains a [Co2(CO2)4] secondary building unit (SBU), and can be topologically represented as a 6-connected 2-fold interpenetrating pcu net with the point symbol of {4(12)·6(3)}. Compound can be characterized as a 4-connected sql tetragonal planar network with the point symbol of {4(4)·6(2)}. In compounds and , there is a 1D chain which is formed by flexible carboxylic acid ligands and Co atoms; then the 1D chain is linked by L ligands in the tilting direction, leading to the formation of a 2D layer. Furthermore, UV-vis, TGA and magnetic properties have been investigated in detail.
Syntheses and Characterization of Co(Ii) and Cu(Ii) Coordination Polymers (cps) Based on Mixed Flexible and Rigid Ligands

Abstract:Two new Co(II) and Cu(II) complexes, {[Co(bib)(4,4′-sdc)]}n (1), and {[Cu(bib)(4,4′-sdc)·4H2O]}n (2) (bib=1,4-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)butane, 4,4′-sdc=4,4′-stilbenedicarboxylic acid), have been synthesized under similar reaction conditions. These newly synthesized complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetry. The magnetic susceptibility of complex 1 was also investigated. Complex 1 displays a 3D 8-fold interpenetration network in the [4+4] manner. However, complex 2 reveals a 2D layered architecture constructed by linking the meso-helical chains to the 4,4′-sdc ligands.
Syntheses and Characterizations of Novel One-dimensional Coordination Polymers Self-assembled from Co(NCS)2 and Flexible Diester-bridged Pyridine-based Ligands

Abstract:The self-assembly reactions of Co(NCS)(2) with diester-bridged pyridine-based ligands pyCO(2)-(CH2)(m)-O(2)Cpy (py = 4-pyridyl; m = 2, 3, 4) have been studied. Interestingly, while Co. (NCS)(2) reacted with pyCO(2)-(CH2)(2)-O(2)Cpy (La) in MeOH/H2O or THF/MeCN to yield two coordination polymers [Co-(NCS)(2)(La)(2)](n) (1) and [CO(NCS)(2)(La)(2).2TBF](n) (2), reactions of CO(NCS)(2) With pyCO(2)-(CH2)(3)-O2CPY (Lb) in MeOH/MeCN and CO(NCS)(2) with pyCO(2)-(CH2)(4)-O(2)Cpy (Lc) in EtOH/H2O afforded [Co(NCS)(2)(Lb)(2).0.5MeOH](n) (3) and [Co(NCS)(2)(Lc)(2).2H(2)O](n) (4), respectively. The Xray diffraction analyses indicated that polymers 1-4 consist of a one-dimensional Co(H) chain in which each of the two adjacent Co(H) ions is hedged by two pyCO(2)-(CH2)(m)-O(2)Cpy ligands to form a macrocycle. In addition, the structures of polymers 1-4 were also characterized by infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry and elemental analysis.
