Abstract:With the wide application in chemistry and pharmaceutical industries, the toxic effect of hydrazine on the ecological environment (e.g. inhibition on seed germination and seedling growth) as well as human health (carcinogen) arises extensive concerns. Although a lot of probes have been developed and used for fluorescence imaging of hydrazine in living cells and animals, to our best knowledge, there are rare reports on hydrazine probe successfully applied for plants imaging. In this work, we report a novel red-emissive fluorescent probe with hydrazine-sensitive dicyanovinyl group for colorimetric and ratiometric detection of hydrazine. This newly reported probe was capable of rapidly, sensitively, and selectively detecting hydrazine with a low detection limit (2.88 ppb), and more importantly, this probe achieved the ratiometric fluorescence imaging of hydrazine in plant roots.

Abstract:Hydrazine is extremely toxic and causes severe harm to human body. Herein, a novel fluorescent probe 4-oxo-2-styryl-4H-chromen-3-yl thiophene-2-carboxylate (FHT) was synthesized for detecting hydrazine by using natural cinnamaldehyde as starting material. This probe exhibited significantly enhanced fluorescence response towards hydrazine over various common metal ions, anions, and amine compounds. The detection limit of probe FHT for hydrazine was as low as 0.14 μmol·L −1 , significantly lower than that of the threshold value of 0.312 μmol·L −1 , imposed by the Environmental Protection Agency. Moreover, the proposed probe was able to detect hydrazine within wide pH (5–10) and linear detection ranges (0–110 μmol·L −1 ). This probe was employed for determining trace hydrazine in different environmental water samples. The probe FHT -loaded filter paper strips were able to conveniently detect hydrazine of low concentration through distinct naked-eye and fluorescent color changes. Importantly, the probe FHT with low cytotoxicity was successfully applied to visualize hydrazine in living Hela cells and zebrafish.

Abstract:Hydrazine is widely used in a plenty of fields as a raw material and is closely related to our healthy. A new fluorescent probe of hydrazine was designed and synthesized, choosing imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine as the electron acceptor, based on the intramolecular charge-transfer (ICT) effect. The probe, 2-[4-(imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-3-ylethynyl)benzylidene]malononitrile (5), responds rapidly to hydrazine and exhibits obvious color changes from yellow to colorless, indicating its use as a color indicator for hydrazine. Sensing mechanism of probe 5 toward hydrazine was deduced through HOMO–LUMO energy levels and the interfacial plots of the molecular orbitals. Its physical and chemical properties were demonstrated by UV, fluorescence, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction via computation and experiment. The calculated data are consistent with experimental results.

Abstract:We report a novel colorimetric and red-emitting fluorescent probe for hydrazine detection based on resorufin platform. This OFF-ON fluorescent probe shows a large (117nm) red-shifted absorption spectrum and the color changes from colorless to red upon addition of hydrazine in the aqueous solution, which can serve as a "naked-eye" probe for hydrazine. Moreover, this probe also shows a significant fluorescence increase (~16 folds) and excellent linear relationship at physiological pH. Utilizing this sensitive and selective probe, we have successfully detected hydrazine in living cells.

Abstract:Hydrazine (N 2 H 4 ), as a highly reducing agent and reactive base, is extensively utilized in chemical, pharmaceutical and agriculture fields. However, the high toxicity of N 2 H 4 poses significant risks to human health and can lead to severe ecological contamination. Consequently, it is of significant to develop a tool for the detection of N 2 H 4 in the environment fields and in vivo . Herein, three 1,8-naphthalimide-triphenylamine-based red-emitting fluorescence probes ( TSY-1 , TSY-2 and TSY-3 ) have been developed for the detection of N 2 H 4 in actual water sample and in vivo by coupling of 1,8-naphthalimide derivatives with the electron-withdrawing groups (1,3-indandione, malononitrile, and 2-benzothiazolethonitrile) through a N 2 H 4 responsive C C bond. Significant fluorescence quenching of three probes was observed on account of the responses toward N 2 H 4 . The detection limits of TSY-1 , TSY-2 and TSY-3 for N 2 H 4 were calculated to be 0.2 μM, 0.4 μM and 54 μM, respectively. Utilizations of probe-based test paper strips to qualitatively detect N 2 H 4 in actual water sample by "naked-eye" colorimetry were demonstrated. Additionally, quantitative determination of N 2 H 4 in actual water samples was successfully achieved by the smartphone-based standard curves. Additionally, the applications of TSY-1 , TSY-2 and TSY-3 in fluorescence imaging N 2 H 4 in vivo are also demonstrated.

Abstract:Broadly, the industrial applications of hydrazine cause environmental pollution and damage to living organisms because of the high toxicity of hydrazine. Therefore, monitoring hydrazine in the environmental system is of great significance to human health. Here, a new fluorescent probe PC-N2 H4 based on corrole dye was developed for the detection of hydrazine that had excellent specificity, low limit of detection (LOD: 88 nM), and a wide pH range (6-12). Upon addition of hydrazine into the probe solution, the strong red fluorescence was 'turned on' centred at 653 nm with a 127-fold fluorescence intensity enhancement. The detection mechanism was proved using ESI-MS, 1 H NMR, and density functional theoretical calculations. Importantly, the probe was utilized to fabricate a ready-to-use test strip to realize the visual inspection of hydrazine. Furthermore, PC-N2 H4 was successfully applied for practical detection of hydrazine in water samples with satisfactory recoveries ranging from 96.2% to 105.0%, and indicating that the designed PC-N2 H4 is highly promising for hydrazine detection in an aqueous environment. Considering the diverse toxicological functions of hydrazine, PC-N2 H4 was also successfully used to image exogenous hydrazine in HeLa cells and zebrafish.

Abstract:As an important chemical raw material, hydrazine brings convenience to people's lives and provides opportunities for human development. However, the misuse or leakage of hydrazine has brought pollution to the environment, including water, soil and living organisms. At the same time, hydrazine poses a potential threat to human health as a carcinogen. Despite the enormous challenges, it is crucial to develop an effective method to detect hydrazine in environmental samples. In this work, we have synthesized a series of probes based on phenothiazine fluorophore by the introduction of different substituents and developed a novel probe for the detection of hydrazine. The probe is capable of detecting hydrazine in aqueous solutions with high sensitivity and selectivity, and can be easily fabricated into paper test strips for use in in situ samples. In addition, the probe is effective in detecting hydrazine in water, soil, cells, and zebrafish, providing an excellent tool for detecting hydrazine in the environment.

Abstract:Hydrazine is a very important industrial chemical with high toxicity to the human body. In this work, a fluorescent probe HZ, based on the substitution-cyclization-elimination cascade which initiated by hydrazine, was designed and synthesized. HZ had various characteristics such as high selectivity, high sensitivity, fast detection speed, wide application range, and so on. After treating with hydrazine, the fluorescence signal of HZ at 520 nm in aqueous solution was significantly enhanced. Furthermore, HZ had the linear range of 1-10 equivalent for monitoring hydrazine, and the solution showed a colorless to yellow color change. In practical application, the detection limit of HZ for the detection of hydrazine was only 0.75 mu M, which could be utilized for trace detection of hydrazine in different water samples. These indicated that HZ had a broad application prospect in the fields of environmental protection and water treatment. This work not only provided a useful instrument for the detection of the ecological environment but also supplied important information for the system optimization of other ecological environment detectors. In addition, HZ could monitor endogenous and exogenous hydrazine in MCF-7 cells successfully, which demonstrated its potential for practical application in complex biological systems.

Abstract:A new fluorescent and colorimetric probe based on the reaction and intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect is designed and synthesized. The probe responds rapidly toward hydrazine and exhibits distinct color changes from yellow to colorless, indicating its use as a color indicator for hydrazine. Moreover, the probe also shows a significant broad band fluorescence (410-700 nm) enhancement by similar to 120-fold after the addition of hydrazine. With a detection limit as low as 0.11 ppb, the probe can detect hydrazine in a wide concentration range because of the blunted sensing functional group. The contrast test shows almost no interruption from common elements in water, suggesting the high selectivity of this probe toward hydrazine. The theoretical calculation based on density functional theory (DFT) is also performed and two different ICT modes are found. Abstract:The widespread occurrence of hydrazine residues in the environment, including in water, soil, and organisms, is a potential health threat to humans. Therefore, the development of an efficient method for the detection of hydrazine in environmental samples is highly desirable although it poses a significant challenge. In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of naphthalene-based fluorescent dyes through structural engineering and developed a novel probe for hydrazine detection. The probe could provide a distinct fluorescence response toward hydrazine in aqueous solution with high sensitivity and selectivity. Moreover, paper-based test strips can be easily fabricated using this probe, enabling the portable on-site detection of hydrazine with the aid of a smartphone. Furthermore, we demonstrated that this probe is capable of recognizing hydrazine in various environmental samples, including water, soil, plants, and zebrafish embryos. This research provides a promising tool for the detection of hydrazine in the environment.

Abstract:A novel fluorescent probe 4 for hydrazine based on pyrazoline-derived was designed and synthesized. The selective deprotection of phthalimide group of the probe by hydrazine led to a dramatic fluorescent enhancement (similar to 84.7 folds) at 490 nm within 4 min in the aqueous solution. The limit of detection is 0.0622 mu A (1.99 ppb) which is much lower than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standard (10 ppb). Notably, probe 4 could be used to detect hydrazine in gas state with different concentrations through color changes from readily prepared strips. Abstract:Hydrazine (N2H4) is a very important chemical reagent which has been widely used in the fields of chemistry industry, aerospace, pesticide production and others. However, N2H4 is highly toxic and prone to induce a variety of diseases. Hence, we designed two fluorescent probes (CH-NO1, CH-NO2) based on chloro-hydroxylmerocyanine (CHMC) with similar recognition groups. The two probes were synthesized by a simple reaction coupling between CHMC dye and two alkyl bromine compounds. Both probes showed specific off-on response to N2H4 in aqueous solution with nanomolar LOD (28 nM for CH-NO1 and 38 nM for CH-NO2), and without interference by a range of amino acids, anions and cations. Moreover, CH-NO1 can be used for both environmental and biological monitoring of N2H4.

Abstract:A new ratiometric fluorescent probe for hydrazine based on a 4-hydroxynaphthalimide fluorophore was developed. Abstract:Hydrazine induced toxicity causes serious harm to the health of humans. The detection of N2H4 in vitro and in vivo has attracted a great deal of attention, especially in the context of fluorescent probes. Although some fluorescent N2H4 probes have been reported, only a few operate in purely aqueous media and, as a result, require the use of organic cosolvents which hinders their use in analysis of real samples. In addition, most of the current N2H4 probes are either "off-on" or "on-off" types, in which it is difficult to eliminate interference from background fluorescence commonly occurring in in vitro and in vivo systems. Furthermore, some probes are unable to differentiate hydrazine from other organic amines. To address the above problems, we developed a novel oligo(ethylene glycol)-functionalized fluorescent probe for the detection of N2H4. The probe, which has a donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A)-type structure, is water-soluble, and it can be utilized to selectively detect N2H4 in both colorimetric and ratiometric mode. Furthermore, the probe is able to differentiate hydrazine from other organic amines and can be used to detect hydrazine vapor and for imaging A549 cells and zebrafish.

Abstract:Hydrazine (N 2 H 4 ) is an important industrial raw material that has been widely used in industrial production and agricultural life, but its widespread application also inevitably causes environmental pollution. In this article, based on resorufin, we constructed a novel "turn-on" fluorescent probe RES-N 2 H 4 for selective detection of hydrazine under complex environmental conditions and in vivo. The probe RES-N 2 H 4 exhibited excellent stability and selectivity towards the detection of hydrazine and with the low detection limit which was 260 nM. In addition, RES-N 2 H 4 was successfully applied to detection of hydrazine in environmental water samples and living cells. Most importantly, RES-N 2 H 4 could not only detect the exogenous hydrazine in zebrafish and mice, but also image and visualize the up-regulation of endogenous hydrazine induced by isoniazid in zebrafish.

Abstract:<p class="a-plus-plus">Hydrazine is a highly toxic and flammable liquid that can damage human liver, kidney, and central nervous system. Therefore, it is valuable to seek a quick and sensitive method for hydrazine detection in environmental and biological science. Herein, a new fluorescent probe derived from 3-hydroxyphthalimide was synthesized. This probe can rapidly and selectively detect hydrazine with a low detection limit of 4.3 × 10<sup class="a-plus-plus">−7</sup> M. The recognition principle is based on hydrazine-induced acetyl deprotection and excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) process. Moreover, test paper and fluorescence image experiments showed that this probe had potential to monitor hydrazine in the environment and living cells.</p>

Abstract:Hydrazine (N2H4) is a crucial chemical raw material extensively utilized in chemical production. However, due to its volatility, water solubility, and high toxicity, both the gaseous form and aqueous solution of N2H4 pose significant environmental risks by causing severe pollution that can adversely impact plants, microorganisms, and human health. Therefore, accurate detection of N2H4 in the environment is imperative for safeguarding public health. In this study, we synthesized a ratiometric fluorescent probe (BCaz-Cy2) based on Carbazole and Hemicyanine groups. This probe exhibits simple synthesis procedure, rapid response time, high sensitivity and selectivity as well as remarkable detection signals. It enables effective detection of N2H4 in various matrices such as water, food, soil and plant samples thereby significantly expanding the scope of applications for N2H4 probes.

Abstract:Hydrazine (N 2 H 4 ) has toxic effects on the environment. Although a variety of reactive probes have been used to identify hydrazine, practical applications required continuous development of hydrazine fluorescent probes with improved performance. Here, we applied the neighboring group participation (NGP) to the design of a fluorescent probe for hydrazine. The probe exhibited a rapid response to N 2 H 4 and strong anti-interference ability, with detection limited to 0.031 μmol/L. Theoretical calculation showed that the energy barrier could be reduced by NGP. The cyclic intermediate formed by the indole ring and the α-ester carbonyl group significantly reduced the activation energy of the reaction. Practically, the probe could detect hydrazine in actual water samples.

Abstract:Hydrazine is a highly toxic pollutant to the environment and living organisms. Therefore, it is an urgent need to detect hydrazine selectively, sensitively, and successfully in the real samples and biosystems. Thus, we designed a donor-π-acceptor fluorophore quinoline (Q) appended 4-formylphenyl 2,4-dinitrobenzoate (P-DNP) to form a Schiff base QP-DNP for tracking hydrazine in real samples and biosystems. The probe observes an intramolecular charge transfer and aggregation induced emission sensing mechanisms on cleavage of ester bond upon nucleophilic substitution reaction with hydrazine and exhibited a “turn-on” fluorescence at green channel with the formation of quinoline-phenol. The proposed study was investigated through photophysical properties, 1H NMR titration, HR-MS experiments, and density-functional theory calculations. The LOD of QP-DNP for hydrazine was calculated to be 55 nM and exhibited a high selectivity among possible competitive analytes. Additionally, the probe showed a remarkable emission colour changes on fabrication of paper sensor strips that can be discriminated in monitoring hydrazine vapor using smartphone and achieved an AND gate operation. Furthermore, QP-DNP was successfully applied to fluorescence imaging of hydrazine in live HeLa cells, monitoring of in situ hydrazine release as a metabolite of isoniazid drug administrated orally and determining hydrazine contamination in real samples.
