Abstract:Let X be an infinite-dimensional complex Banach space, and let B ( X ) be the algebra of all linear and bounded operators on X. In this paper, we characterize linear bijective maps φ on B ( X ) having the property that the spectral radius (respectively, the spectrum) of φ ( A ) equals the spectral radius (respectively, the spectrum) of φ ( B ) for each pair of similar operators A , B ∈ B ( X ) . As a corollary, we obtain a characterization of linear bijective maps on B ( X ) preserving the equality of the spectrum.

Abstract:Let A and B be (not necessarily unital or closed) standard operator algebras on complex Banach spaces X and Y, respectively. For a bounded linear operator A on X, the peripheral spectrum sigma(pi)(A) of A is defined by sigma(pi)(A) = {z is an element of sigma(A) : vertical bar z vertical bar = max(w is an element of sigma(A)) vertical bar w vertical bar}, where s (A) denotes the spectrum of A. Assume that F : A. B is a map and the range of F contains all operators with rank at most two. It is proved that the map F satisfies the condition that sigma(pi)(Phi(A)Phi(B) + Phi(B)Phi(A))= sigma(pi)(AB+ BA) for all A, B is an element of A if and only if either there exists an invertible operator T is an element of B(X, Y) such that Phi(A) = epsilon TAT(-1) for every A is an element of A; or X and Y are reflexive and there exists an invertible operator T. Abstract:Let A and B be standard operator algebras on infinite dimensional complex Banach spaces X and Y, respectively, and let Φ be an additive surjection from A onto B. We prove that if Φ is unital and preserves any one of (left, right) invertibility, (left, right) zero divisors, (left, right) topological divisors of zero, quasi-affinity, injectivity, surjectivity, range density, lower-boundedness and left (right) maximal ideals in both directions, then it has one of the following forms: isomorphism, conjugate isomorphism, anti-isomorphism and conjugate anti-isomorphism. We also show that Φ preserves zero products in both directions if and only if Φ is either an isomorphism or a conjugate isomorphism.

Abstract:We show that every spectrally bounded linear map Phi from a Banach algebra onto a standard operator algebra acting on a complex Banach space is square-zero preserving. This result is used to show that if Phi(2) is spectrally bounded, then Phi is a homomorphism multiplied by a nonzero complex number. As another application to the Hilbert space case, a classification theorem is obtained which states that every spectrally bounded linear bijection Phi from B(I-I) onto B(K), where H and K are infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert spaces, is either an isomorphism or an anti-isomorphism multiplied by a nonzero complex number. If P is not injective, then Phi vanishes at all compact operators.

We study the map defined on the Banach space of all bounded linear operators by and its restriction to the Banach space of all compact operators We first consider the relationship between the boundary eigenvalues of and its fixed points. Also, we show that the spectra of and are the same sets. In particular, the spectra of two completely positive maps involving the unilateral shift are described.

Abstract:Let H, K be real or complex complete indefinite inner product spaces of infinite dimension and let$\Phi :{\mathcal B}(H) \to {\mathcal B}(K)$ be an additive bijection. We show that Φ preserves indefinite orthogonality, i.e.,$T^{\dag} S = 0 \Rightarrow \Phi (T)^{\dag} \Phi (S) = 0$ and$TS^{\dag} = 0 \Rightarrow \Phi (T)\Phi (S)^{\dag} = 0$ for any$T,S \in \mathcal{B}(H),$ if and only if there exist linear or conjugate linear bounded invertible operators U : H → K and V : K → H, which satisfy that both$U^{{{\dag}}} U$ and$V^{{{\dag}}} V$ are real scalar multiples of the identity, such that$\Phi (T) = UTV$ for all$T \in \mathcal{B}(H),$ where, for$R \in \mathcal{B}(H,K),R^{{\dag}} $ stands for the conjugate of R with respect to the indefinite inner products. A similar result is also true in the finite dimensional case if Φ(I) is assumed to be invertible.

Functional Analysis and Its Applications

Abstract:The multiplicative version of the Gleason–Kahane–Żelazko theorem for -algebras given by Brits et al. in [4] is extended to maps from -algebras to commutative semisimple Banach algebras. In particular, it is proved that if a multiplicative map from a -algebra to a commutative semisimple Banach algebra is continuous on the set of all noninvertible elements of and for any , then is a linear map. The multiplicative variation of the Kowalski–Słodkowski theorem given by Touré et al. in [14] is also generalized. Specifically, if is a continuous map from a -algebra to a commutative semisimple Banach algebra satisfying the conditions and for all , then generates a linear multiplicative map on which coincides with on the principal component of the invertible group of . If is a Banach algebra such that each element of has totally disconnected spectrum, then the map itself is linear and multiplicative on . It is shown that a similar statement is valid for a map with semisimple domain under a stricter spectral condition. Examples which demonstrate that some hypothesis in the results cannot be discarded.

Abstract:Let x and y be two elements in an algebra.If x and y satisfy the algebraic relation xy=ξyx for some scalarξ,then x and y are commutative up to a factorξ.This paper first gives a characterization of unital additive surjections between standard operator algebras on real or complex Banach spaces which preserve commutativity up to a factor in both directions.A structure theorem for bounded linear surjections preserving commutativity up to a factor between C*-algebras is also obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the linear maps between semi-simple Banach algebras which compress any one of the spectrum, the left spectrum, the right spectrum, the intersection of left spectrum and right spectrum, the boundary of spectrum and the full spectrum. We prove that such linear maps are idempotent preserving. As applications, we characterize such maps in terms of Jordan homomorphisms on C*-algebras of real rank zero. In particular, we give several characterizations of isomorphisms between standard operator algebras by using such spectral function compressing linear maps and surjectivity spectrum compressing or approximate point spectrum compressing linear maps.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a locally compact Hausdorff space, let $A$ be a partially ordered algebra, and let $\pi\colon \mathrm{C}_{\mathrm c}(X)\to A$ be a positive algebra homomorphism. Under conditions on $A$ that are satisfied in a good number of cases of practical interest, it is shown that $\pi$ is represented by a unique regular spectral measure $\mu$ on the Borel $\sigma$-algebra of $X$, taking its values in the positive idempotents in $A$. The measure $\mu$, which is $\sigma$-additive in an ordered sense, represents $\pi$ via the order integral (a generalisation of the Lebesgue integral) that goes back to J.D.M. Wright and which was investigated earlier by the authors. The positive algebra homomorphism $\pi$ can be extended from $\mathrm{C}_{\mathrm c}(X)$ to a positive linear map from the accompanying $L^1$-space of $\mu$ into $A$. It is shown that, quite often, this $L^1$-space is closed under multiplication, so that it is a vector lattice algebra, and that the extended map from $L^1$ into $A$ is not only an algebra homomorphism but, even when $A$ is not a vector lattice, also a vector lattice homomorphism in a sense that is explained in the paper. When $ A$ has the countable sup property, the image of $L^1$ (or of its positive cone) is described in terms of consecutive ups and downs of the image of ${\mathrm C}_{\mathrm c}(X)$ (or of its positive cone). The general results are applied in three different contexts, showing how various spectral theorems have a common order-theoretical root: representations on Banach lattices, on Hilbert spaces, and (the algebra need not consist of operators) spectral theory for JBW-algebras.

Abstract:We study surjective maps between the sets of all self-adjoint elements of unital $C^*$-algebras which satisfy the multiplicatively spectrum-preserving property. We show that such maps are characterized by Jordan isomorphisms and central symmetries. This is an answer to a problem posed by Molnár.

B-Fredholm theory in Banach algebras

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to develop a systematic B-Fredholm theory in semiprime Banach algebras. We first generalize Smyth's important punctured neighbourhood theorem to B-Fredholm elements. Then using this result, we investigate the local spectral theory of B-Fredholm elements, including the localized left (resp. right) SVEP and a classification of components of B-Fredholm resolvent set. Finally, in semisimple Banach algebra context, we characterize element $f$ such that $f^{n}$ belongs to the socle for some $n \in \mathbb{N}$ from two different perspectives: one is the invariance of the B-Fredholm spectrum under commuting perturbation $f$, the other is the Rieszness and the B-Fredholmness of $f$.

Abstract:Let $A(G)$ and $B(H)$ be the Fourier and Fourier-Stieltjes algebras of locally compact groups $G$ and $H$, respectively. Ilie and Spronk have shown that continuous piecewise affine maps $\alpha: Y \subseteq H\rightarrow G$ induce completely bounded homomorphisms $\Phi:A(G)\rightarrow B(H)$, and that when $G$ is amenable, every completely bounded homomorphism arises in this way. This generalised work of Cohen in the abelian setting. We believe that there is a gap in a key lemma of the existing argument, which we do not see how to repair. We present here a different strategy to show the result, which instead of using topological arguments, is more combinatorial and makes use of measure theoretic ideas, following more closely the original ideas of Cohen.

Abstract:Abstract Let be a non‐Archimedean Banach ring, satisfying some mild technical hypothesis that we will specify later on. We prove that it is possible to associate to a homotopical Huber spectrum via the introduction of the notion of derived rational localization. The spectrum so obtained is endowed with a derived structural sheaf of simplicial Banach algebras for which the derived C̆ech–Tate complex is strictly exact. Under some hypothesis, we can prove that there is a canonical morphism of underlying topological spaces that is a homeomorphism in some well‐known examples of non‐sheafy Banach rings, where is the usual Huber spectrum of . This permits the use of the tools from derived geometry to understand the geometry of in cases when the classical structure sheaf is not a sheaf.
