Abstract:Laryngeal cancer originates from cells in larynx. The incidence of laryngeal cancer is approximately 4:1 in males to females and mostly occurs in the middle-aged and elderly population around 50 years. The incidence rate is higher in European and American countries compared to other regions. [ 1 , 2 ] Laryngeal cancer is classified into 4 stages (stage I–IV). The main causes of laryngeal cancer are smoking and alcohol consumption. The clinical manifestations of laryngeal cancer include throat pain, hoarseness, difficulty breathing, lumps in the throat, difficulty swallowing, coughing, phlegm, and enlarged lymph nodes in the neck. [ 3 ] Laryngeal cancer originates from epithelial tissues and mainly derives from the epithelial cells in the mucosa or submucosa of the larynx. Laryngeal cancer can be categorized into 3 types based on differentiation: well-differentiated, moderately differentiated, poorly differentiated. The tissue infiltration can also be classified into superficial, moderate infiltration, and deep infiltration. [ 4 , 5 ] Laryngeal cancer can cause life-threatening situations, damage to the vocal cords, swallowing difficulties, and airway obstruction. Bladder cancer originates from epithelial cells. The incidence of bladder cancer is higher in developed countries than in developing countries, mainly concentrated in people over 50 years old, especially in the elderly over 60 years old. [ 6 ] When the epithelial cells inside the bladder undergo malignant transformation and grow rapidly, bladder cancer will form. The etiology of bladder cancer is complex, and there may not be obvious symptoms at first. Early symptoms of bladder cancer include frequent urination, urgency, painful urination, hematuria, and some patients may be asymptomatic. In advanced stages of bladder cancer, symptoms such as urinary obstruction, abdominal pain or bladder pain, back pain, cachexia, etc, may appear. [ 7 ] Bladder cancer is categorized into 3 stages: stage I (low malignancy), stage II (moderate malignancy), stage III (high malignancy). Bladder cancer has high potential for spreading and recurrence rate. [ 8 ] Oral cancer usually originating from cells within mouth. The incidence of oral cancer mainly occurs between ages of 40 and 70, risk of disease in males is 2 to 4 times higher than that in females. The incidence of oral cancer is higher in developed countries, and some regions in Asia and Africa also have high incidence rates. [ 9 , 10 ] Oral cancer with strong invasiveness and a high likelihood of recurrence. Early symptoms may include mild pain, discomfort, ulcers, etc, so the condition can be easily delayed. Afterwards, it may also develop into gum bleeding or swelling, oral lumps, halitosis, voice changes. [ 11 ] Oral cancer cells exhibit features of abnormal growth, cellular atypia, and loss of normal cell adhesion. Moreover, they have invasive and metastatic properties. [ 12 ] Oral cancer can affect appetite, leading to malnutrition, it can also affect their ability to chew and speak. Furthermore, it can cause infections and bleeding. The causes of laryngeal cancer, bladder cancer, and oral cancer are not well understood. Therefore, it is urgent to study laryngeal cancer, bladder cancer, and oral cancer in depth.
