Study on Ultrasound-guided Percutaneous Microwave Ablation and Surgical Resection for Papillary Thyroid Microcarcinoma

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and compare with these of safety of Ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation and surgical resection for papillary thyroid microcarcinoma.Methods 65 patients with ultrasound guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy(FNAB)proven thyroid papillary carcinoma,nodal diameter<1.0cm,have divided into two groups according to their preference,30 cases were enrolled in microwave ablation treatment group and 35 cases in surgical treatment group.Operation time,amount of blood loss,complications,postoperative changes of thyroid-related hormone levels and tumor shrinkage after microwave ablation were observed in two groups.Results In the microwave ablation treatment group,the operation time was shorter,the amount of blood loss was less and the hospitalization time the thyroid-related hormone levels was changed small after the treatment.The differences between the two groups were statistically significant(P>0.05).While the postoperative complications and efficiency between the two groups were not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusions Ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation therapy of thyroid papillary carcinoma has advantage than surgical resection,it′s a new minimally invasive treatment for patient who have surgical contraindications or reluctant to surgery.
