Abstract:Chorioallantoic fluids of the first, second or third generation chicken embryos bearing six Duck origin type A influenza viruses were used to inoculate the 27 day old quails, 22 day old commercical leghorn (CL) chickens or 25 day old specific pathogen free (SPF) leghorn chickens by the intranasal intraocular, intra abdominal or intravenous routes respectively, resulted in 50% morbidity and 0% mortality of quails, 100% morbidity and 62.5% mortality of CL, 100% morbidity and 88.9% mortality of SPF chickens. The intra abdominal and intravenous inoculation appeared to be the most effective routes. The morbidity and mortality rates of male poultry were higher than that of female one. These results indicated that the duck origin influenza viruses would have some pathogenic potential for other poultries and certain epidemiological and ecological significance.
