Abstract:By simplifying the multivariate normal distribution, the probability of each industrial variable making the sample abnormal was computed. According to the probability and the analysis of the industrial process, the fault origin was efficiently found out. It is proved that the probability for the multivariate normal distribution is in the area within the invariable Mahalanobis distance. From the conclusion and the multivariate statistical theory, the complicated multivariate normal distribution was dramatically converted into F distribution, so the difficulty of calculating the multivariate normal distribution probability was resolved. Simulation result proved the validity and accuracy of the new method based on multivariate statistical process control (MSPC).

Abstract:In order to reduce the variations of the product quality in batch processes, multivariate statistical process control methods according to multi-way principal component analysis (MPCA) or multi-way projection to latent structure (MPLS) were proposed for on-line batch process monitoring. However, they are based on the decomposition of relative covariance matrix and strongly affected by outlying observations. In this paper, in view of an efficient projection pursuit algorithm, a robust statistical batch process monitoring (RSBPM) framework, which is resistant to outliers, is proposed to reduce the high demand for modeling data. The construction of robust normal 'operating condition model and robust control limits are discussed in detail. It is evaluated on monitoring an industrial streptomycin fermentation process and compared with the conventional MPCA. The results show that the RSBPM framework is resistant to possible outliers and the robustness is confirmed.

Abstract:The variation in manufacturing process is the source of poor quality, less output and high scrap cost in Integrated Microelectronic Device manufacturing. Some issues caused by variation have been talked in previous reports, however, the effective prevention mechanism in manufacturing process is seldom mentioned. In this paper the Statistical Prevention Mechanism by system level is proposed to set up from the perspective of quality management. The statistical techniques including Measurement System Analysis and Statistical Process Control are utilized in Statistical Prevention Mechanism. The Statistical Prevention Mechanism works as process control system with real-time data to reduce variation and achieve 4.637% improvement on pass rate, which demonstrates the Statistical Prevention Mechanism is effective and efficient process control system with superiority of average 98.727% pass rate to achieve sufficient process capability and process stability compared to previous publications.

Abstract:In most manufacturing processes, we face sudden outliers, and in such situations, median control charts are more outliers-resistant than mean control charts. In ideal circumstances, a median chart presents less efficiency than a mean chart. In order to overcome the efficiency loss in uncontaminated environments by maintaining its resistance ability in contaminated environments, we have suggested an auxiliary information-based set of median type control charts using the coefficient of variation and coefficient of kurtosis of auxiliary characteristics for efficient process monitoring. The performances of these control charts are evaluated in terms of average run length (ARL) and extra quadratic loss (EQL) under the univariate, bivariate, and trivariate normally distributed process environments. The effects of contaminated environments are also examined on the ARL performance of different median-based charting structures. The illustrative examples concerning median type control structures are also provided for procedural details.

Abstract:The control chart based on the compound Poisson distribution (the negative binomial exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart) has been shown to be more effective than the c‐chart to monitor the wafer nonconformities in semiconductor production process. The performance of the negative binomial EWMA chart is generally evaluated with the assumption that the process parameters are known. However, in many control chart applications, the process parameters are usually unknown and are required to be estimated. For an accurate parameter estimate, a very large sample size may be required, which is seldom available in the applications. This article investigates the effect of parameter estimation on the run length properties of the negative binomial EWMA charts. Using a Markov chain approach, we show that the performance of the negative binomial EWMA chart is affected when parameters are estimated compared with the known‐parameter case. We also provide recommendations regarding phase I sample sizes, smoothing constant and clustering parameter. The sample size must be quite large for the in‐control chart performance to be close to that for the known‐parameter case. Finally, a wafer process example has been used to highlight the practical implications of estimation error and to offer advice to practitioners when constructing/analysing a phase I sample. Abstract:The process quality index (PQI) system and quality-oriented statistical tolerancing have been discussed based on three PQIs, which provides a standardized interface between process quality requirements and control chart design. An integrated statistical approach to specification, production, process monitoring and inspection can be realized via using quality-oriented statistical tolerancing. By adding a restriction to the center lines of and R chart or and s chart based on the PQI-oriented statistical tolerance zone, a new SPC approach for assuring both predetermined quality and process stability is presented, which enhance the function of control charts and provides a possibility and guideline to concurrent design for the process quality plan, statistical tolerance and related parameters of SPC to assure designated process quality.
Research on Dynamic Quality Control Limits and Its Convenient Calculation Method under Small Batch Production Conditions

Abstract:A new quality control approach to the small batch production, which used dynamic control limits based on t-distribution, was presented, and the simple and convenient algorithm was also addressed. First, by analyzing the function relationship between the number of samples and the probability of the first type of errors, a group of dynamic control limits was attained, by which the probability of the first type of errors was reliable regardless of the number of observations. Then a model based on t-distribution was set up, in which the control limits changed with the number of samples. Finally, a simplified calculation method was thus proposed using the approximate expression for the t - distribution on upper percentile. The results of calculation show that the error of proposed approach is only 20% of that by the traditional approach, while the sample groups are less than 5. In conclusion, the proposed approach has a simple form without normal distribution and is in a large application to the quality control of small batch production.

Abstract:The function of traditional Shewhart Control Charts is to monitor the process to be at a stable state and to detect assignable causes. It can not assure a designated quality requirement for a process. Quality- oriented SPC approach is presented based on quality-oriented statistical tolerancing technique in this paper. It can assure a designated quality requirement and remain the function of traditional Shewhart Control Charts. To develop a quality-oriented SPC approach, a standardized interface between process quality indices system and the design of control charts is needed, that is, quality-oriented statistical tolerance zone. The procedure of quality-oriented Shawart control charts design via statistical tolerancing is given.

Abstract:Current SPC charts are process monitoring tools for keeping process in stable status, and can not assure a desired process quality without additional requirements. To develop a quality-oriented SPC approach, a standardized interface between process quality indices and the parameter design of control charts, i.e., quality-oriented statistical tolerance (QOST), is needed. QOST can be determined based on required process quality index (PQI) or process capability index (PCI). The guidelines of QOST to SPC control charts is actually to determine the permitted deviation of the center lines of SPC charts which is naturally formed by the actual data of process output. Theoretically, when SPC control charts are used to assure the process to be in controlled state and also to meet a predetermined PQI or PCI, it should satisfy the restrict condition representing by a given QOST. The procedures of this new SPC approach with a case study are given for process monitoring under information-based manufacturing.

Abstract:Statistical process control (SPC) methods are useful for improving or maintaining a manufacturing or service process in a stable and satisfactory state. Nowadays, in many industrial applications, it is necessary to simultaneously monitor more than two related quality variables of a process. Multivariate control charts are thus becoming an important research area. Using separate control charts to monitor related quality variables independently is very unreasonable and misleading. The problem of monitoring multivariate statistical process (MSPC) for several related quality variables is of current interest. So far in the literature, a few papers have discussed monitoring process dispersion for cases in which the process has a multivariate normal or non‐normal distribution. A new EWMA dispersion control chart is proposed to monitor the process covariance matrix. Moreover, the proposed new EWMA dispersion control chart is independent of the out‐of‐control process mean vector. It overcomes the problem in many existing covariance matrix control charts of assuming that there are no shifts in the process mean vector which, depending on the existence of shifts in mean, can lead to an increased false alarm rate. The derivation of the new EWMA dispersion control chart is illustrated and its out‐of‐control detection performance investigated. The proposed new EWMA dispersion control chart performs better than the existing control charts for detecting out‐of‐control process variances whether the covariances change or not. An example involving semi‐conductor data is adopted to demonstrate the application of the proposed new EWMA dispersion control chart.

Abstract:The statistical tolerancing models and design approach for assuring a preset process quality target are presented. A set of standardized process quality indices (PQIs) is introduced for meeting the measurement and evaluation to process yield, process centering and quality loss. Quality-oriented statistical tolerancing technique is introduced to concurrent design for assuring process target. The comprehensive application of this new approach is shown by a case study. The main advantages of this new approach are that PQIs can be assured with a desired confidence probability under four different cases. Process quality, statistical tolerances (STs) and SPC parameters can be concurrently designed, coordinated planned and quantitively analyzed.

Abstract:To solve the problems of overconsumption and the increasing environmental pollution brought by rapid industrial development, governments around the world have been introducing a series of green manufacturing (GM) policies to reduce the negative effects of manufacturing. A high-quality product means less time wasted on interruptions and restarts in the production process as well as less waste and defective products. However, once the quality of the product reaches a certain level (e.g., five Sigma), it becomes harder to attain greater economic and environmental benefits. Clearly, both excessive and inadequate quality exert a profound impact on corporations, society, and the environment. This study presents an improved Qpm multiple quality characteristic analysis chart (Qpm MQCAC) to ensure that product quality meets a specified standard with minimum input. Quality optimization is used to improve quality characteristics which do not meet the standard by joint monitoring of possible shifts in the process mean µ and/or process standard deviation σ. A guide is also provided to ensure successful quality improvement. The proposed approach not only identifies the factors that influence production quality, but avoids excessive consumption of resources, thereby achieving GM goals. The proposed approach is demonstrated in a step-by-step manner using the example of a steering knuckle pin. Future works are also discussed.

Abstract:This paper proposes a distribution-free multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) chart to detect general distributional changes in multivariate process variables. The chart is deployed based on a multivariate goodness-of-fit test, which is extendible to high-dimensional observations. The chart also employs data-dependent control limits, which are computed on line along with the charting statistics, to ensure satisfactory and robust charting performance of the proposed method. Through theoretical and numerical analyses, we have shown that the proposed chart is exactly distribution-free and able to operate with an unknown in-control (IC) distribution or limited reference samples. The chart also has robust IC performance as well as satisfactory out-of-control (OC) detection power for general process changes without any assumption of the process distribution. A real-data example in semiconductor production processes is presented to demonstrate the application and effectiveness of our method.

Abstract:Traditional attribute control charts are based on the monitoring of the number of nonconforming items in a sample of fixed size. In modern manufacturing processes, since items can be checked automatically, use of samples of a fixed subjective size with traditional charts is not suitable for on‐line continuous inspection. Furthermore, the sample size usually has to be large when the process fraction nonconforming is not reasonably high. If a decision is to be made only when a sufficient number of items are manufactured and inspected, many nonconforming items might have been produced. In this paper, a control scheme is presented based on the monitoring of cumulative counts of items inspected. This procedure will limit the number of consecutive nonconforming items to a small value when the process has suddenly deteriorated, can detect a sudden process shift quickly and is suitable for continuous inspection processes. The exact probability control limits are derived and the implementation procedure is described.

Abstract:On the basis of Manufacturing Execution System(MES),the carbon footprint in the process of manufacturing workshop is researched and the calculation method of carbon emissions at the station level is proposed.In order to realize the real-time mo-nitoring of carbon footprint at the station level,the carbon emissions is regarded as an important quality characteristics of statisti-cal process control,and the statistical process control model of carbon footprint based on the Bayesian theory is puted forward.The model is applied to the MES of a instrument manufacturing enterprise and the effectiveness is demonstrated.

Abstract:Abstract In order to sustain safety and high product quality, the data-driven fault detection tools are increasingly used in industrial processes. The quality variables are the key index of the final product. Obtaining them in high frequency is time-consuming in the laboratory because they require the efforts of experienced operators. Meanwhile, process variables such as the temperature, the pressure, and the flow rate can be readily sampled in high frequency; hence the sample size between the process and the quality data is quite unequal. To effectively integrate two different observation sources, the high-rate process measurements and low-rate quality measurements, a semi-supervised regression model with probabilistic latent variables is proposed in this article to enhance the performance monitoring of the variations of the process and the quality variables. The corresponding statistics are also systematically developed and a TE benchmark problem is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:Proved by engineering practice,invalidation of process can not be forecasted by engineering process control,and optimal manufacturing quality in the process can not be guaranteed.The features of STA,SPC and EPC were outlined during the manufacturing quality control,a process control system which integrated STA,EPC and SPC was put forward.The informational system interface technique,the intelligent integration technique and the harmonious control technique were studied.The integrated technique and the quality guaranteed technique were analyzed through a specific manufacturing process example.The results show that the application of this technique guarantees not only the need of individual parameter,but also the distribution regulation of the group of a same parameter.The quality of manufacturing process can be markedly improved.

Abstract:Along with the technical development,the unqualified rate of the products tends nigh zero.The traditional 3σ method seems to be incapable for modern online controlling.This paper presents consecutive conforming run-length(CCR) control charts based on the number of consecutive conforming items between two successive nonconforming items,and points out a new opinion of the optical limits through the analysis of the variation between the control limits of CCR control charts and the probabilities as well as the costs of the two types of the errors. Establishing a mathematical model for its costs,gives out the major parts of the researching process,the formula for the optical control limits and the application conditions.

Abstract:Among the statistical process control techniques, the control chart has been proven to be effective in process monitoring. The Shewhart S-chart is one of the most commonly used control charts for monitoring the process variability based on the assumption that the distribution of the quality characteristic to be monitored is normal. However, in real applications, many process distributions may follow a positively skewed distribution such as the lognormal distribution. In this study, a control chart for monitoring the standard deviation of a lognormal distribution is presented. The simulation results show that the proposed chart is more effective than the existing charts when the true value of the scale parameter of the lognormal distribution is large. A real example is used to demonstrate how the proposed chart can be applied in practice.
