Abstract:A new approach of the mode transformation for double circuit line tower is presented. Some typical transformation matrixes are obtained among which two matrixes have very good feature. Based on the analysis in this paper, new protective relaying devices for double circuit line tower can be developed.

Abstract:A new transformation method of solving phasor- mode impedance of double circuits on same tower with differ- ent transposition is presented. The impedance matrix and transformation matrix corresponding to three common ways of transposition are obtained. The transformation matrix does not contain complex element and is fully diagonalized. There- fore, it can provide theoretical basis for fault location and phase selective protection of new type of double circuits on same tower. The correctness of this method is validated by EMTP.

Abstract:An efficient multiconductor transmission line (MTL) model of a shielded twisted wire pair (TWP) with apertures on its sheath is developed for predicting common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM) currents induced in the shielded TWP cable. Its transfer impedance and admittance with one-line apertures on its sheath are derived in a closed form. Therefore, the MTL equations are formulated and solved to obtain the CM and DM currents induced in the shielded TWP. Moreover, the proposed MTL model is generalized to be applicable for the braided-shielded TWP, in which the transfer impedance and admittance are formulated analytically. Results showed that the induced DM current inside the braided-shielded TWP is suppressed dramatically due to the uniform structure of the cable. The models are validated by comparing their results with those obtained by the commercial software FEKO; good agreements are obtained.

Abstract:A multiconductor transmission line (MTL) model is developed for predicting electromagnetic wave coupling effects with multitwisted bundle of twisted-wire pairs (MTB-TWP) running above a ground plane. Such MTB-TWP is described as a sequential repeated structure, where all its parameters are formulated in terms of sequences. In particular, the parametric equations of all the wires are derived and described by a set of generalized equations, where the unit tangent vector for each wire is also determined analytically. In addition, the averaged per-unit-length (p.u.l.) parameters are described by recurrence formulas. Further, the equivalent voltages for describing the field-to-wire coupling of MTB-TWP are obtained and determined analytically. The modal domain decomposition is performed with special loading terminals to split out the common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM) signals, where the CM-to-DM conversions are further investigated in order to indicate the balanced property in such MTB-TWP system. On the other hand, the effect of dielectric coatings of all the wires is also characterized, where the averaged modal p.u.l. capacitance matrix is obtained numerically. A comparison is performed with the other wiring structures to visualize the benefits of our MTB-TWP model. An extended MTL model is also validated in comparison with the commercial software FEKO.
Mode-current Differential Protection of Quadruple-Circuit Transmission Lines on the Same Tower

Abstract:The capacitance current has a notable influence on current differential protection in the quadruple-circuit transmission lines on the same tower.The capacitance current compensation for the current differential protection must compute in the mode by the phase-mode transformation for convenient,and then form the protection criterion using mode-phase transformation method.The mode current will reflect different fault types if the transformation matrices are different.Based on this principle,this paper presents a new mode-current differential protection for quadruple-circuit transmission line.The capacitance current compensation of this protection scheme is simple and can realize the fault phase selection of single-phase grounding.The phase selection and split-phase action capability of the proposed protection scheme is verified by PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.

Abstract:Most of the double-circuit lines on the same pole are not transposed continuously, which may cause inter-line coupling. Based on the decoupling transformation, a differential current expression is described for double-circuit line, and the differential current characteristics of all the phases are analyzed for both in-zone simple faults and inter-line faults. It is shown that the unbalanced differential current of the non-fault phase for the double-circuit line is larger than that for the single-circuit line. Therefore, a countermeasure is taken, and a practical protection scheme for the double-circuit line is presented which can be implemented on the basis of the fiber-optic channel available for the fast and sensitive operation provided while avoiding mal-operation during external faults and in unloaded switching conditions. The results of simulation corroborate the applicability of the scheme.

Abstract:By use of ATP-EMTP software, built the simulation of 220kV double-circuit transmission line. Then discussed the factors that affect the lightning performance of each tower, such as the height of tower, grounding resistance, insulation configurations, grounding wires and so on. The simulation results show that the tower height has a great impact on the lightning performance of double-circuit, so we should minimize tower height considering the actual condition; reduce the ground resistance can improve the lightning impulse withstand level effectively, especially in the low resistance. For tension tower, using an unbalanced insulation is the most effective way to reducing double tripping. For straight-line tower, increasing the piece of glass insulator is also an effective way to reducing double tripping rate. If the conditions allow, a coupling grounding wire can reduce the double-line trip obviously by use of its shunt and coupling function.

Abstract:Due to the asymmetrical self-impedance of the multi-circuit lines, it becomes much more difficult to decouple the network equation and brings new challenges for fault analysis with four-parallel lines on the same tower. According to the studies of existing phase-mode transformation and the characteristics of the four-parallel-line phase-mode transformation, two new decoupling methods are proposed to decouple the asymmetrical impedance matrix. One is to decouple the matrix with the original decouple steps, while the other uses the contrary order. The physical meanings of the two phase-mode transformations are discussed according to the characteristics of the transformation matrix, and their mathematical calculation is deduced to explore the sequentiality and the reversibility of the decouple steps. Applicability of the phase-mode transformations is explained according to their physical meanings and mathematical equations, and the phase-mode transformation form is also generalized. The simulation results indicate that the new method is suitable for the fault analysis involved in four-parallel lines with asymmetrical self-impedance.
Research on optimized phase sequence arrangements for 500 kV quadruple-circuit transmission line on the same tower

Abstract:There are 1 296(64)phase sequence arrangements for quadruple-circuit transmission lines on the same tower theoretically.In order to obtain the optimal arrangement,taking 500 kV quadruple-circuit transmission lines on the same tower as an example,the electric characteristic of transmission line including electromagnetic environment,natural power,imbalance transposition,etc under every phase sequence arrangement were compared and analyzed by method of exhaustion.The result shows that the arrangement has a certain impact on the electric characteristic of transmission line.Power frequency magnetic field,radio interference and audible noise are not the decisive factors to optimal phase sequence arrangement.By taking electromagnetic environment,natural power,imbalance transposition,etc into account and using sorting method,the optimal arrangement for 500 kV quadruple-circuit transmission lines on the same tower is obtained,which is 1616 for tower d and 1462 for tower e.Finally typical arrangements for quadruple-circuit transmission lines on the same tower are recommended.The calculation method and results be referred to for projects.
Applying longitudinal differential protection against simultaneous lightning outage for double-circuit transmission lines on same tower

Abstract:To prevent tripping accidents on double-circuit transmission lines on the same tower (DCSTTL) caused by simultaneous lightning outage, we studied the effect of using longitudinal differential protection. Firstly, we summarized the tripping characteristics and the actualities of relay application for DCSTTL, and analyzed the effects of some key factors, including phase sequence configuration, ground resistance, tower height, span of line and insulation level of tower, on lightning protection of transmission lines. Then, we compared the operations of different relay protection equipment on DCSTTL under typical lightning faults, and analyzed the effectiveness of using longitudinal differential protection to prevent simultaneous lightning outage for DCSTTL in quantity after considering practical line parameters. Results show that there is a large gap between the two-phase level and the three-phase lightning withstand level for DCSTTL. With longitudinal differential protection, a DCSTTL will only have power failure on a single circuit under three-phase flashover, and only flashovers on four and more phases will cause double-circuit line power-off on the line. Therefore, compared with pilot distance relays and directional pilot relays, longitudinal differential protection performs better in preventing simultaneous lightning outage. We also proposed some other suggestions from the perspective of relay protection for protecting DCSTTL.

Abstract:This paper presents a kind of algorithm, which can decouple the electrical quantities of quadruple-circuit transmission lines and get completely independent 12 sequence components of quadruple-circuit transmission lines on the same tower system. Based on the analysis of transformation matrix and the impedance matrix of 12 sequence components, the principle of ground impedance relay and the corresponding protection setting scheme are discussed. Through PSCAD / EMTDC simulation software, the power transmission system model with quadruple-circuit transmission lines on the same tower under the voltage of 500 kV are established. The correct operation of protection scheme has been verified with extensive simulation studies.

Abstract:The existing problem is analyzed when the single circuit line protection is used in the double-circuit lines on the same tower.This paper suggests two kinds of novel protective relaying schemes for the double-circuit lines on the same tower under the condition of digital substation.One scheme is to send the current sampling value of the single circuit transmission line to the protective relaying of other single circuit transmission line,and the other scheme is to take the double-circuit lines as a complete unit to achieve the relaying function in centralized protection or the double-circuit lines protective relaying.Also,this paper advances the structure of two schemes and protection configuration and discusses the sampling value transmission and generic object oriented substation event(GOOSE) information of the proposed schemes.Finally,this paper reviews the research work on the implementation of new schemes.

Abstract:The current-traveling-wave -based protection of double-circuit transmission line is analyzed. It uses the balance between two circuits to distinguish internal or external faults. Ratio of the currents of the two circuits is used as criterion. Wavelet transform is used to recognize and scale inceptive traveling-wave and distinguish those from noise and power frequency component. Problems such as the influence of transmission line configuration are put forward. EMTP simulation proves the correctiveness of the principle and in the analysis.

Abstract:Considering the problem that all currently available phase-mode transformation matrices can not reflect all types of faults, a novel phase-mode transformation matrix is proposed in this paper. The proposed matrix is based on the relationship between the elements in matrix of transposition lines. Mode 1 and 2 transformed by using this matrix can reflect all types of faults. The results of fault location simulation have shown the validity of the new matrix. Stricter requirements are required for relay protection and responding speed of circuit breakers because of rising voltage class. Hence calculations of relaying should be carried out in the time domain. It is a trend that phase-mode transformation will replace symmetrical component transformation. Hence the proposed transformation matrix will find wider applications in the field of relay protection.

Abstract:To calculate the secure distance of quadruple-circuit transmission lines on the same tower with vertical arrangements passing over buildings,power-frequency electric field distortion on the roof and the balcony is calculated and analyzed with CDEGS when 500 kV quadruple-circuit transmission lines pass over buildings.And the secure distance between conductors and building is proposed based on distorted electric field,including minimum vertical secure distance and minimum horizontal secure distance.The results show that distorted electric field is the most important constraint factor for determining secure distance between transmission lines and buildings;the secure distance recommended by existing regulations cannot satisfy requirements of quadruple-circuit transmission lines crossing the buildings;the secure distance is decided by the factors such as line voltages,height of the buildings and tower structures.In the end,the secure distance of 110 kV,220 kV quadruple-circuit transmission lines and 220 kV/110 kV,500 kV/220 kV mixed-voltage quadruple-circuit transmission lines across buildings is also calculated.
Fault Line Selection Component of Transverse Differential Protection Based on Six-sequence Current Component for Multi-circuit Transmission Line on Same Tower

Abstract:Based on the decoupling analysis of six-sequence component method for multi-circuit transmission line on the same tower,three fault line selection components of transverse differential protection are proposed to form a new transverse differential protection scheme for the multi-circuit transmission line on the same tower.The action of the three new fault line selection components is analyzed.Application of the new transverse differential protection scheme for the multi-circuit transmission line on the same tower is discussed.The new protection scheme has high sensitivity for the single transmission line fault.Different from traditional transverse differential protection,the breaking fault of potential transformer has no influence on the new protection because the new protection algorithm is not related to voltage.Lots of simulation results with PSCAD/EMTDC verify the feasibility of the new transverse differential protection through comparing several fault line selection schemes.

Abstract:When one circuit of transmission line adopting the structure of double circuit on the same tower is being maintained and another circuit is being operated,induced voltage and current will come into existence in the line being maintained and the overhead ground wire,which may be overhead ground wire or overhead optical ground wire.Utilizing EMTP software,the 1 000 kV transmission line adopting the structure of double circuit on the same tower under the condition that one circuit of the transmission line is being maintained is simulatied while another circuit is being operated;the induced voltage and current in the line being maintained are calculated,besides the factors influencing the induced voltage and current in the line being operated and the overhead ground wire are analyzed.Results of this research are available for reference to the maintainence of UHVAC transmission line adopting the structrue of double circuit on the same tower and its live line work.

Abstract:The structure characteristics and operating mode of the quadruple-lines on the single tower are introduced,and the influence of mutual inductance to the distance protection is studied.Proposals of choosing appropriate zero sequence compensating coefficient according to different operating mode for further improvement are given.Besides,grounding distance protection method is also recommended,which is based on the zero sequence current compensating of the non-faulty lines.

Abstract:The phase-mode transformation(PMT)methods of four-parallel lines(FPL)on the same tower are summarized and discussed.Considering a more practical FPL model, a new twelve sequence components is proposed to decouple the network equation and analyze the fault sequence networks.The necessary and sufficient conditions of FPL PMT are calculated.A more generally applicable model of FPL and its PMT are also discussed.On this basis, this paper takes a whole comparison of all kinds of FPL PMT.The result shows that the new twelve sequence components can simplify the calculation, abridge fault sequence network, and be suitable for the power system analysis.

Application of Unbalanced Insulation in 220 Kv and 110 Kv Double-Circuit Transmission Lines on the Same Tower

Abstract:When unbalanced insulation is applied to double circuit transmission lines on the same tower,the minimum degree of insulation unbalancedness,by which the lower insulation level is configured at one of the double circuit transmission lines to ensure that the phase-to-phase flashover always occurs at the side with the lower insulation level,is analyzed by electromagnetic transient program(EMTP),and a corresponding insulation configuration scheme is provided.When the balanced insulation or the insulation with low unbalancedness is adopted to double circuit transmission lines on the same tower,the inter-circuit flashover caused by lightning stroke usually happens,namely there is a single-phase flashover in each circuit,however along with the extension of the difference in insulation levels for the two circuits,the inter-circuit flashover gradually turns to phase-to-phase flashover happening at the circuit with the lower insulation level.Based on this principle and by means of ensuring enough difference between insulation levels for the two circuits,it can make sure that when double circuit transmission lines on the same tower is lightning-stricken the phase-to-phase flashover only happens at the circuit with the lower insulation level,therefore the serious fault of simultaneous trip-out of two circuits can be avoided at the cost of trip-out of one circuit.Calculation results show that when the degree of insulation unbalancedness for double 220 kV or 110 kV circuit transmission lines on the same tower reaches to 30%,or in other word,the difference in insulator pieces of a string between two 220 kV circuits or two 110 kV circuits is 4 or 3 pieces respectively,the unbalanced insulation can restrict the circuit,where phase-to-phase flashover happens.Besides,the effect of such a measure is reliable and suitable for double circuit transmission lines on the same tower with various conductor arrangements of phase sequence to avoid simultaneous trip-out of both circuits for double circuit transmission lines on the same tower due to lightning stroke.
