Abstract:DeepMind Health, the health tech company owned by Google, should define how it intends to make money if it is to avoid suspicion of being a means of milking NHS data, its own review panel has said in a new report.1 The company ran into criticism when it signed a deal with the Royal Free Hospital in London in 2016 to use patient data to test a mobile app called Streams with the aim of improving treatment of acute kidney injury.2 The Information Commissioner ruled last July that the Royal Free had breached data protection law in supplying the data.3 Streams has since been rolled out to Imperial College and to hospital trusts in Yeovil and Taunton, yet DeepMind Health has yet to make a penny out of it. …
