Abstract:•Development of depression after chronic CORT treatment may be related to the formation of sleep disorders.•These alterations of sleep patterns appear to comprise two phases: (i) an adaptive response that is a predictor of depression and (ii) a concomitant symptom of depression.•The changes in GR, FKBP51, and TH expression in the LC may be involved in the course of these sleep patterns.
