Abstract:The development of facile luminescent sensor for detecting nitrophenols in aqueous media is of great necessity for the environment and the sequent human health in that they are a class of widespread toxic organic pollutant that lead to serious adverse effects in biosphere on their consumption. Based on a new multidentate asymmetric ligand (H2L) in which salicylamide and 4-nitryl-salicylaldimide are spaced by 1,2-bis(2-ethoxy)ethyl, a new hydrostable lanthanide intercycle, Tb2L2(NO3)2]·CH3CN (Tb-[2]c), was prepared to act as a new luminescent sensor for 4-NP in water media. Structural analysis indicate that two fully deprotonated L2− in cis-configuration and μ2-L-κ2O1:κO2:κO4:κN2:κO5 coordination mode are interlocked by two TbIII ions to render the emitted TbIII encapsulated by L2− for lessening the non-radiative transitions. The excellent sensitizing capability of the ligand L2− to TbIII was ascertained by both experimental method and theoretical calculations. The sensing exploration indicate that Tb-[2]c exhibits highly sensitive and selective recognition of 4-NP against other nitroaromatics in aqueous media. The recognition mechanism could be attributed to the the internal filtration effect (IFE) mechanism when DFT calculations and multiple experimental evidences are combined.

Abstract:Nitroaniline ( NA ) is a kind of high toxicity and pathogenic amine derivative, and the trace monitoring of nitroaniline has become an urgent problem in terms of both the environment and security. Herein, two K-region multiple substituted pyrene-based luminogens with reasonable photoluminescence efficiency and blue emission (408–430 nm) have been synthesized and characterized. Their photophysical properties were carefully investigated in solution and in the solid state by experimental and density functional theory (DFT) methods. It is worth mentioning that both of these π-electron rich and extended π-conjugated materials were used for the detection of electron deficient nitroaromatics ( NACs ) based on a photo-induced electron transfer (PET) mechanism, and a sensitive response towards NA , especially for p -NA with a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 8.58 × 10 −9 M, was observed, with a fluorescence quenching efficiency up to 99.5%. These research results provided a low-cost and simple strategy for trace nitroaniline sensing.

Abstract:To design an effective fluorescence probe for sensing nitroaromatic compounds (NACs) and metal ions, a novel two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymer, {Zn-2(NO3)(2)(4,4-bpy)(2)(TBA)} (1) {H(2)TBA = 4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)-benzoic acid, 4,4-bpy = 4,4-bipyridine} was synthesized via a hydrothermal method. As expected, 1 presented varying degrees of fluorescence intensity changes for detecting and recognizing trace NACs with high selectivity and sensitivity in water solution. Moreover, 1 not only exhibited a highly selective fluorescence quenching effect on Fe3+ ions in aqueous solution, but could also resist the interference of various other metal ions. In addition, it has been found that the fluorescence quenching mechanisms among NACs and Fe3+ ions are mainly related to the interactions between the host group and guest molecules by energy and electron transfer.

Abstract:A novel three-dimensional metal organic framework, Pb3O2L(1)(H2L = 4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl) phenol), with a unique 3D network structure exhibits excellent luminescence and good stability in water and other organic solvents. 1 can act as a promising dual functional sensor for the detection and recognition of nitroaromatic explosives (NACs) and Fe3+ ions via fluorescence quenching with high selectivity and sensitivity in an aqueous phase. Importantly, 1 as a fluorescent sensor of Fe3+ can be simply and quickly regenerated, which represents a rare example of a reported luminescent sensor of Fe3+ ions. Furthermore, the visible colour changes in the detection process make them easy to distinguish by the naked eyes, and luminescent test plates broaden its potential application in detection of Fe3+ ions. Experimental and theoretical calculations indicate that the luminescence quenching can be attributed to an electron and resonance energy transfer between the MOF and analytes. The present study contributes to the development of MOF materials research, specifically in their application as biological and environmental fluorescent sensors.

Abstract:This work reports a new luminescent metal−organic framework Material {[Cd3(BPDPE)3(suc)(HCOO)2(H2O)2]·(NO3)2}n (1), which was synthesized by 4,4-dipyridyldiphenyl ether (BPDPE) and succinic acid (suc) under solvothermal conditions. It is initially the 2D network constructed by succinic acid, and further connected by BPDPE forming 3D cationic framework with free nitrate anions. It is worthy noting that complex 1 exhibits excellent structural stability in the pH range of 2–12. The detection of NACs demonstrates that the complex could be acted as a functional probe material for sensing 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) with high sensitivity and selectivity, the detection limit (LOD) for TNP was up to 1.52 × 10−7 M. Further more, the probable detect mechanisms were studied both experiments and calculations.

Abstract:Porous aromatic framework materials with high stability, sensitivity, and selectivity have great potential to provide new sensors for optoelectronic/fluorescent probe devices. In this work, a luminescent porous aromatic framework material (LNU-23) was synthesized via the palladium-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling reaction of tetrabromopyrene and 1,2-bisphenyldiborate pinacol ester. The resulting PAF solid exhibited strong fluorescence emission with a quantum yield of 18.31%, showing excellent light and heat stability. Because the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of LNU-23 was higher than that of the nitro compounds, there was an energy transfer from the excited LNU-23 to the analyte, leading to the selective fluorescence quenching with a limit of detection (LOD) ≈ 1.47×10-5 M. After integrating the luminescent PAF powder on the paper by a simple dipping method, the indicator papers revealed a fast fluorescence response to gaseous nitrobenzene within 10 s, which shows great potential in outdoor fluorescence detection of nitro compounds.

Abstract:Background: Nitroaromatic compounds are inherently hazardous and explosive, so convenient and rapid detection strategies are needed for the sake of human health and the environment. There is an urgent demand for chemical sensing materials that offer high sensitivity, operational simplicity, and recognizability to effectively monitor nitroaromatic residues in industrial wastewater. Despite its importance, the mechanisms underlying fluorescence quenching or enhancement in fluorescent sensing materials have not been extensively researched. The design and synthesis of multiresponsive fluorescent sensing materials have been a great challenge until now. Results: In this study, a one-dimensional Cd-based fluorescent porous coordination polymer (Cd-CIP-1) was synthesized using 5-(4-cyanobenzyl)isophthalic acid (5-H2CIP) and 4,4'-bis(1-imidazolyl)biphenyl (4,4'-bimp) and used for the selective detection of nitrobenzene in aqueous solution by fluorescence quenching, with a limit of detection of 1.38 × 10-8 mol L-1. The presence of aniline in the Cd-CIP-1 solution leads to the enhancement of fluorescence property. Density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory calculations were carried out to elucidate the mechanisms of the fluorescence changes. This study revealed that the specific pore size of Cd-CIP-1 facilitates analyte screening and enhances host-guest electron coupling. Furthermore, π-π interactions and hydrogen bond between Cd-CIP-1 and the analytes result in intermolecular orbital overlap and thereby boosting electron transfer efficiency. The different electron flow directions in NB@Cd-CIP-1 and ANI@Cd-CIP-1 lead to fluorescence quenching and enhancement. Significance and novelty: The multiresponsive coordination polymer (Cd-CIP-1) can selectively detect nitrobenzene and recognize aniline in aqueous solutions. The mechanism of fluorescence quenching and enhancement has been thoroughly elucidated through a combination of density functional theory and experimental approaches. This study presents a promising strategy for the practical implementation of a multiresponsive fluorescent chemical sensor.

Abstract:In recent years, fluorescence sensors have been widely used in explosive detection due to their portability and high efficiency. In the present work, two K-region tetrasubstituted deep-blue pyrene-based luminogens were designed and synthesized by introducing electron-donating groups. The optical properties were investigated by experimental and density functional theory (DFT) methods. Reasonable luminescence efficiency and electron rich characteristic allowed for the possible detection of nitro-explosives. Both luminogens, especially TFPy , exhibit a sensitive response towards nitroanilines ( NA ), with a limit of detection (LOD) for p -NA as low as 2.75 × 10 –8 M, which is mainly attributed to the electron-donating substituents on the periphery of the pyrene core and the extended π-conjugated structure. These research results establish a low-cost and simple strategy for the detection of trace nitroaniline.

Abstract:Nitroaniline is not only an important chemical intermediate, but also a toxic waste for human health. Thus, it is necessary to develop efficient, sensitive, and specific technologies and materials for detecting nitroaniline to address this issue. In this work, two 2-hydroxypyrene moieties have been connected via the oxygen centres using different alkyl groups (methyl or n-amyl) or 1,4-ethylbenzene as a bridge. The target pyrene-based compounds exhibit pyrene-like optical behaviour, and possess hypersensitivity toward p-nitroaniline compared to the o- and m-nitroaniline isomers. Moreover, the probe 3a (containing the methyl bridge) exhibits a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 6.18 × 10-9 M for p-nitroaniline. Therefore, these compounds have application potential for the detection of trace amounts of nitroaniline isomers.

Abstract:In this work, two 2D poly (3-aminocarbazole) derivatives containing N-type acceptor moieties benzothiadiazole and benzofurazan were synthesized and reported, which are named PCBTC and PCBFC respectively. UV spectrum shows that the absorption spectrum of the new polymers with N-type structures both have a red shift compared with poly (3-aminocarbazole). The fluorescence spectrum shows that PCBTC has a strong fluorescence emission (Em = 544 nm) at 375 nm excitation with a large stokes shift of 169 nm, which is conducive to its use as a highly sensitive fluorescence probe with strong anti-interference ability. As expected, our results show that p-nitro-aniline and ferric ions perform visual fluorescence quenching effect on PCBTC respectively compared with other ions and aromatic compounds. The results show the limits of detection of PCBTC to p-nitroaniline and Fe3+ can reach 21.5 nM and 71.4 nM respectively. What is more interesting and noteworthy is that the isomers o-nitroaniline and m-nitroaniline of p-nitroaniline almost will not quench the fluorescence of PCBTC. These results consistently indicate that PCBTC can be used as a dual-functional probe to detect p-nitroaniline and Fe3+.

Abstract:A new three-dimensional luminescence Zn-MOF sensor with the molecular formula [Zn-4(mu(3)-OH)(2)(ptptc)(1.5) (DMA)(H2O)(2)]center dot 2DMA (complex 1) for the selective sensing of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (2,4-DNPH), picric acid (PA), La3+ and Ca2+ has been synthesized from terphenyl-3,3', 5,5'-tetracarboxylic acid (H(4)ptptc) and zinc nitrate under solvothermal conditions. XRD analysis reveals that complex 1 crystallizes in monoclinic system P2(1)/n space group and consists of a three-dimensional network with one-dimensional channels, which are expected to facilitate the diffusion, concentration and detection processes. Real-time fluorescence quenching responses and good reversibility were observed in the fluorescence titration experiments with nano-molar scale detection limits for 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (2,4-DNPH, 100 nM) and picric acid (PA, 500 nM). Noticeable emission band shift from 365 nm to 420 nm was observed when treated complex 1 with La3+ and a new emission band centered at 475 nm appeared when treated complex 1 with Ca2+ in the metal ions sensing experiments. In virtue of its high selectively, good sensitively and recyclability complex 1 could be a promising fluorescent sensor for explosives and metal ions. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Although the construction of specific functional crystalline materials is still challenging, the multi-component molecular assembly has become a key solution for the design of functional materials. Here, we report a hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF) material FJU-360 constructed from disodium 6‑hydroxy-5-[(4-sulfophenyl)azo]-2-naphthalenesulfonate (SSY) and terephthalimidamide. The charge-assisted hydrogen bonding between amidinium and sulfonate makes FJU-360 produce much stronger fluorescence than SSY, and can be used as a luminescence sensor to rapidly quench aniline through luminescence quenching. FJU-360 is sensitive and highly selective for the detection of aniline, and the detection limit reached 3.2 nmol/L, which is the lowest value reported currently. The mechanism of aniline response was analyzed through the aniline@FJU-360 single crystal structure, and the luminescence mechanism was clarified through density function theory calculations. This work is an important step towards the rational synthesis and assembly of sensing materials.

Abstract:Three new bis(pyrrol-2-yl-methyleneamine) ligands 5–7 were synthesized in high yields via condensation of diamines 2–4 with two equivalents of 2-formyl-pyrrole 1. Compounds 5–7, which absorb UV light between 352 and 354nm in THF without fluorescence, display obvious fluorescence with excitation between 400 and 413nm and emission between 503 and 510nm upon complexation with Zn2+. Based on its fluorescent properties and selectivity toward different metal ions, ligand 5 is a very promising fluorescent materials for a zinc ion sensor.

Abstract:A novel sensor for detecting nitrite based on poly-1-naphthylamine doped by a ferrocenesulfonic acid (PNAFc) modified electrode has been proposed. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have confirmed that ferrocene-sulfonic acid (Fc) can be doped in poly-1-naphthylamine (PNA) and enhances its electrochemical activity. In a nitrite solution, the PNAFc electrode shows an excellent electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of nitrite. Based on differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), the response was evaluated with respect to pH, scan rate, temperature, and other variables. The optimum analytical conditions for the determination of nitrite were established. Under optimum conditions, the linear range for nitrite determination was from 0.5 to 100 μM with a detection limit of 0.5 μM. The stability and anti-interference ability of the PNAFc electrode were also evaluated. The results indicate that this sensor is feasible for the determination of nitrite in real water samples.

Abstract:A luminescent zinc metal-organic framework with uncoordinated triazolate N-donors, namely [Zn (tba)2]·DMA (1, DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide), has been successfully synthesized under solvothermal conditions by using a triazolate-carboxylate bifunctional ligand, 4-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)benzoic acid (Htba). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that compound 1 displays a 4-fold interpenetrating dia framework with 1D dumbbell-shaped channels. The systematic luminescence experiments reveal that 1 can be potentially used as a fast-response fluorescence sensor for the sensitive detection of nitrobenzene and Fe3+ ion through drastic fluorescence quenching. Moreover, the quenching mechanisms of 1 towards nitrobenzene and Fe3+ were also investigated.
