Abstract:Water quality evaluation is very important for the design and operation of water treatment and the security of water supply. As the urbanization and population increasing, three types of surface water are simultaneously applied for drinking water sources in Huzhou. Based on the continuous monitoring and data analysis from 2011 to 2015, water quality evaluation was carried out by nine water quality indexes, in order to investigate the pollution characteristics and temporal variation trends of drinking water sources. The results showed that these three types of surface water generally conformed to the water quality standards of drinking water sources, and the water quality decreased in order of reservoir, lake and river. The water quality of reservoir was good and stable, while the main problem of Tai Lake was the exceeding standards of total nitrogen and total phosphorus which might lead to the algae growth. In the rivers, the indexes exceeding the national standards were total nitrogen, iron and manganese, and water quality indexes including chemical oxygen demand, dissolved oxygen, ammonia nitrogen and total nitrogen exhibited seasonal variation. More attention should be paid to water eutrophication and seasonal accidental risk in Huzhou.
Mechanism of sustainable utilization of water resources in river and lake regions of Zhejiang Province

Abstract:Although water resources are abundant in Zhejiang Province, some problems still exist, such as insufficient per capita water resources, uneven annual water resources distribution, over mining of groundwater resources, and serious water pollution, meanwhile, the conventional water resources management system can not effectively control water pollution and comprehensively manage urban and rural water resources. By reference to the advanced modes of comprehensive development and unified management of water resources in Shanghai and Shenzhen cities and in some European and American countries, some measures are suggested for sustainable utilization of water resources in the river and lake regions of Zhejiang Province, including improvement of the water resources management system, establishment of water supply bureaus, implementation of integrated management, establishment of a social water saving environment, prevention of water pollution, and improvement of water environment.

Abstract:In Jiaxing plain river network,the source water has been severely polluted by ammonia and organic pollutants,and the removal efficiency of ammonia nitrogen decreases under low temperatures in winter,in addition,in urban and rural integrated water supply system the water quality at rural deadends fails to meet the Standards for Drinking Water Quality (GB 5749-2006).Research was carried out on integrated technologies to improve source water quality,to enhance water treatment process adaptability and efficiency,and to perfect water quality in water distribution system.Three demonstration projects were developed at the source water wetland,the water treatment plant,and the water distribution systems at Guanjinggang.The results demonstrated that the drinking water quality of pipe network in demonstration area had reached GB 5749-2006.Therefore,the drinking water safety was ensured in the river network region where water resources were seriously polluted.

Abstract:Taking the Sewage of frozen Food of Hongyu Ltd.in Cangxi County as case,by surveying in the source of pollution and monitoring the surroundings,this paper carries on the environment impact assessment to the surface water in Diemaqiao ditch by taking the ways of single pollution index,predictly evaluates the surface water downstream of pollution outlet by combining one-dimension steady model and complete mixing model,analyzes the results of the evaluation and prediction,and proposes the corresponding countermeasure for pollution prevention and control to provide the scientific basis of the concerning macro-decision of the water environment.

Abstract:Evaluation of the shallow groundwater quality in Central and Southern Jiangsu Province (CSJ) in China is important not only to public health but also to sustainable development and utilization of groundwater resources. In this work, 968 groundwater samples were collected by field surveys during 2006 to 2010 to investigate spatial distribution and extent of pollution. The single factor pollution standard index method, considering the values of both the natural groundwater background and the standard of safe drinking water, was used to assess the groundwater quality in the study area. Results showed that the shallow groundwater was severely polluted with Grade V and VI (i.e., severe and extremely severe pollution) groundwater covered about 1/3 and 1/4 of the study area, respectively. The main groundwater contaminants that cause the severe and extremely severe pollutions were manganese, iron, arsenic, and nitrogen. Findings from this work showed that natural hydrogeochemical processes were the main causes of the iron and manganese pollution, however, human activities (e.g., industrial, agricultural, and domestic pollutions) mainly contributed to the nitrogen pollution in the study area.

Abstract:Drinking water for Fuzhou urban district comes mainly from surface water. Water quality safety (WQS) status of each DW in 2006 is evaluated respectively by method recommended by Ministry of Water Resource (MWR) and method recommended by Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP). The results show that all DW water quality belongs to safe level as a whole. By MWR method evaluation WQS of Aofeng zhou DW comes to the worst and belongs to unsafe level with some index (such as coliform) seriously exceeding criteria sometimes. By MEP method evaluation Yi-xu comes to the worst. Based on the investigation of water pollutant sources, the strategies of pollution treatment and environmental management are proposed.

Abstract:All of DW in Cixi County is from local ten reservoirs.The water resource in all reservoirs,which mainly from local rainfall,can’t meet the social needs. It becomes more and more important to guarantee the water quality safety (WQS) of DW. WQS status of each DW in 2001-2004 is evaluated. The results show that all DW water quality belongs to safety level as a whole,but some index(such as organic pollutants and coliform) exceed safety criteria sometimes.The main problem is eutrophication. There is no distinct change about the water quality of each DW in general,except that eutrophication degree is increasing in several reservoirs in 2001-2004. Based on the investigation of pollutant sources,the strategies of pollution treatment and ecological restoration for DW protection are proposaled.

Abstract:For the purpose of getting information on health risk caused by pollutants in the Yangtze River,five main sections of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province were selected and organic compounds,heavy metals and boron element in water were monitored.A water environmental health risk assessment model was used to evaluate the health risk of the main sections and the above pollutants.The results show that among all the sampling sections,Qixia Section and Yaogang Section are the most and second heavily polluted sections,respectively,which might have higher health risk.The pollution contribution from the branch river deserves caution.The health risk to the individual person per year in terms of 54 kinds of organic pollutants,7 kinds of heavy metals and boron through drinking is from 1.30×10-14 to 2.53×10-6a-1,with the greatest health risk being caused by benzo(a)pyrene,followed by Cd,Cr,V and PCB52.The total heath risk caused by the organic and metal pollutants is 2.55×10-6a-1,far lower than the maximum tolerable value(5.0×10-5a-1) recommended by ICRP.In general,although the environmental health risk caused by the 62 kinds of pollutants is in low level currently,it should pay more attention to the environment source,and seek and control the pollutants with higher health risk by our environment protection management.The result may be helpful to the effective control of pollutants from the river alongside the Yangtze River and realize the scientific health risk management.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the quality and health status of rural scattered water supply in Zhejiang Province,and provide scientific basis for the government.Methods Representative monitoring spots were selected from 26 counties to be investigated with a questionnaire on the basic situation.Samples of scattered water supply from different points were collected in wet and dry water seasons.The water quality was analyzed and assessed according to the related standards and regulation.Results There are 251.9 thousand scattered water supply spots in the 26 counties,covering 16.70% of the rural population.The pass rate of the mechanical sampling,manual sampling and handlance pump sampling in wet and dry water seasons is 21.60%,31.03% and 14.81% and 15.04%,13.79% and 21.62%,respectively.Conclusion The pass rates of composite index of scattered water supply from rural areas are low,which is related to the contamination during the water intaking.

Abstract:A good water ecological environment is crucial for the sustainable development and ecological civilization of China. However, various problems remain for China's water ecological environment, including eutrophication, pollution of drinking water sources, contamination of groundwater and coastal waters, emerging pollutants, and shortage of ecological water. In this study, we analyzed the overall situation of the water ecological environment in China, pinpointed the major challenges, and proposed the strategic thinking and several basic principles. These principles focus on improving the water ecological environment and comprehensively consider water quality improvement, water ecological protection, and water environmental risk prevention and control. Three major scientific and technological projects were proposed pertaining to (1) coordinated governance and overall restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasses, and sand in key basins, (2) overall improvement of water environment and water ecology in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Collaborative Development Area, and (3) assurance of drinking water safety in the new era. Furthermore, we proposed the following four countermeasures: (1) revising the Environmental Quality Standards for Surface Water to strengthen its leading role in the construction of water ecological civilization in China; (2) evaluating the spatial and temporal differences of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients in China's lakes and implementing differentiated nutrients standards; (3) assessing the current status of water ecology in China and promoting water ecology monitoring and assessment; and (4) establishing an intelligent supervision platform for drinking water safety based on big data fusion.

Abstract:Potential hazardousness of organic pollutants in some drinking water sources in southern Jiangsu was quantitatively e-valuated with the method of multipollutant analysis and evaluation. Results indicated all water samples were ecologically harmless since TASs of ecology were less than 1. 0 and there was still potential risk to human health due to TASs of health over 1. 0 in all water samples. In addition, the Comet assay was employed, and results showed DNA damages in human lymphocytes were induced after exposure to organic extracts from water samples and the potential genetic hazardousness existed. The test results were in concordance with status of water sources, which demonstrate that both methods can be successfully applied to toxicity monitoring program of drinking water sources.

Abstract:Monitoring and early warning system based on aquatic ecological function regionalization for comprehensive management of water environment were preliminary constructed in Jiangsu,including the total amount control system of water pollutants based on water environment capacity,monitoring system based on total reduction of primary water pollutants,monitoring and evaluation system based on water ecological security,monitoring and early warning system based on water environmental risk.The systems will promote water environment management in Jiangsu from a single water quality management to integrated watershed management,from chemical pollutant control to aquatic ecological system protection,from control of total amount to control of total capacity,from passive emergency management to positive risk management,so as to serve comprehensive management of watershed environment and aquatic ecological system protection in Jiangsu.

Abstract:Sediment samples collected from 11 sampling sites of selected drinking water sources in Jiangsu Province were analyzed to obtain the metal pollution level.In addition,correlation analysis and factor analysis were adopted to find the pollution profile.The results showed low level metal pollution in the investigated area,while sediments in some sections might act as potential release source when the environmental factors changed.

Abstract:The protection of drinking water sources was a top priority because it was the most important water resources and concerned hundreds of millions of people's health and safety.The pollutions of industrial pollution,domestic sewage,livestock and poultry distributed,farmland runoff and aquaculture were deeply studied after investigating drinking water sources of water pollution for more than 116 cities and towns in Anhui province as well as evaluating the water quality of drinking water sources.Finally,management strategies about drinking water sources were raised.The results showed that the number of compliance was 105 in 116 drinking water sources and the achievement ratio was 90.5% in which the compliance rate of river-type water source was 93.3%,the compliance rate of lake and reservoir-type water source was 87%,The compliance rate of groundwater-based water sources was 88%.

Abstract:The water environment quality is not high, the spatial and temporal distribution of water resources is uneven, and the water quality-induced water is in shortage in the world. Strengthening the construction of water ecological civilization is one of the important measures to solve these problems. We took China's Jiangxi Province and its prefecture-level cities as the research object, the water ecological civilization level was measured from the two dimensions of time and space by principal component analysis, and based on the panel data of prefecture-level cities from 2011 to 2020, the panel data model was used to empirically analyze the impact factors of water ecological civilization. The results show that: (1) The level of water ecological civilization in Jiangxi Province shows a fluctuating upward trend, in which the level of water ecological civilization first increased, then decreased, and then increased from 2013 to 2020. (2) Water ecology is the key to affecting water ecological civilization, and cities with abundant natural endowments of water resources have higher scores for water ecological civilization. (3) There are significant differences in the level of water ecological civilization in different cities in Jiangxi Province; the level of water ecological civilization in southern Jiangxi and central Jiangxi is generally higher than that in northern Jiangxi; among the 11 prefecture level cities, Ji'an, Fuzhou, Jiujiang, Yichun, Ganzhou, and Shangrao have a high level of water ecological civilization. (4) Industrial structure, educational investment, and government governance level have significantly improved the level of water ecological civilization. Environmental pollution is not conducive to improving the level of water ecological civilization. There is an inverted U curve between the level of urbanization and the level of water ecological civilization. Accordingly, all prefecture-level cities in Jiangxi Province need to implement new development concepts and innovation-driven strategy, make up for shortcomings, and strengthen weak points according to their own natural endowments of water resources, such as optimizing the industrial structure, increasing investment in education, improving the level of government governance, and strengthening the connotation construction of urbanization, so as to promote the construction of water ecological civilization in Jiangxi Province. The research results also provide a reference for other countries similar to Jiangxi Province to solve the problem of water pollution, alleviate the pollution-induced water shortage, and improve the water ecological environment in the process of economic development.

Abstract:In order to develop a proper method for water management, we must know the water sustainable development status. Therefore, the water footprint, an index reflecting the water consumption was used to analyze the water resource sustainable development status of Jiangsu Province. Results showed that although the average value of water supply surpassed the water requirement during 2003-2010, Jiangsu Province still had the problem of water shortage during the drought years of 2004, 2006 and 2009. 4.5x10(10)-5.6x10(10) m(3) of virtual water in this region was exported through agricultural exports, and the external water dependency of this region was 0. Conflicts between water supply and water requirement will be increased with the increase of population, the development of economy and the urbanization. Therefore, suggestions such as increasing water diversion from Yangze River, collecting and storing the rainfall, carrying out the water saving techniques, treating the wastewater, reducing the virtual water exportation by improving industrial and commercial policies were put forward to decrease the regional water stress. Considering the relatively low virtual water quantity contained in the daily diet of Jiangsu residents and their health, the idea that reducing the water consumption through changing food pattern was not recommended.

Abstract:To provide a scientific basis for accurate calculation of pollutant load of rural domestic wastewater, a survey was unfolded by means of questionnaire in the Taihu Lake watershed to investigate consumption of water and wastewater generation in daily life and spatial distribution and fate of the wastewater in the rural areas. It is found that daily water con?sumption per capita of farm households is significantly and positively related to income level of the households and the highest in the plain of Shanghai. As influenced by factors such as water source and water price, it is higher in the hilly are?as than in the plain areas in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces. Spatial variation of annual domestic water consumption and wastewater generation is related to terrain, resident population, farmer′s income level and economic development of the towns or villages. Although septic tanks are quite popularized in rural areas of the Taihu Lake Valley, they are used to pool toilet sewage and some bathroom wastewater and kitchen sewage only for primary treatment. About 30%-50% of the toilet wastewater is discharged directly into rivers after being treated in septic tanks. The pollution it brings about to the surface water environment cannot be ignored. Obviously the existing sewage treatment facilities can hardly effectively reduce the pressure of the discharge of rural domestic sewage on the surface water environment.

Abstract:Based on the monitoring data of iron concentration of the drinking water sources in Hangzhou Xiaoshan district during 2008?2014, the temporal and spatial distribution of iron concentration was studied, and the iron contamination in the drinking water sources was assessed. The results showed that some single measurement value of iron content were over?standard every year, which is 0?01?8?80 times than the standard. The range of over?standard rate was 16?7%?86?1%, which presented the periodic and spiral increase during 7 years, iron pollution was serious increasingly, reduced to 2014. Through the investigation of water sources environment and pollution sources, the reason for iron contamination was analyzed and the control countermeasures were put forward as:Establish the classification standard for iron in the surface water and improve the discharge standards of iron in wastewater; Set up the cross?administrative region mechanism of water environment management and implement fully the responsibility system of rivers; Strengthen soil and water conservation and control acid rain; Strengthen the management of drinking water source, expand the backup drinking water source, explore new drinking water source.
Study on Endocrine-Disrupting Toxicity in Drinking Water Sources of Three Coastal Cities

Abstract:Chemical industries have developed rapidly.Over the last decade,along the sea in Jiangsu Province,chemical wastewater discharged in long-term made potential threats to the ecosystem and human health.In this study,ER-mediated reporter gene assay was applied in evaluating the endocrine-disrupting activity of surface water from 6 water sources in 3 coastal cities of Jiangsu Province.The results indicated that source water in city C was the cleanest.Water extracts from city A in dry season could induce significant estrogenic activity.Extracts from water sources in city B could induce significant estrogenic activity in all three sampling seasons.Estrogenic activity equivalent at location B-3 in the dry season was higher than the indicated toxicity limit,which may pose a threat to the aquatic organism.More attentions should be paid to this part.This study also showed that reporter gene assay depending on CV-1 cell line was an efficient and rapid method for screening and analyzing of environmental samples,which worth further promotion and application.
