Abstract:Objective To investigate the antibiotics resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae strains isolated from children during 2006—2014, which will provide reference for choosing antibiotics in treating pneumococcal disease. Methods Streptococcus pneumoniae strains were identified with optochin test and latex agglutination test, and drug resistance were determined with Kirby-Bauer diffusion method or VITEK2, and MICs of penicillin were determined with E-test methods. Results A total of 1,109 strains, 707(63.8%) from boys and 402(36.2%) from girls, were isolated from July 2006 to June 2014. The age of the children ranged from 1 day to 14 years old, mean was(2.12±2.41)y, 489(44.1%) was younger than 1 years old, 366(33.0%) aged from 1 to 3 years. Nine hundren and thirty-nine(83.5%) were isolated from sputum samples, while only 68(6.1%) from blood samples and 33(2.9%) from cerebrospinal fluid samples, one hundren and thirteen children(10.2%) had congenital heart disease. More strains(351, 35.9%) were isolated in winter while compared with that of summer. The susceptible rate, intermediate rate and resistant rate of penicillin to strains(including meningitis isolates) was 83.5%, 12.5% and 4.0% respectively, the range of the penicillin MIC were 0.006;6μg/m L, and the MIC; and MIC; were 1 and 3μg/m L. The resistant rate to ceftriaxone, cefotaxime, levofloxacin, rifampicin, chloramphenicol were 3.1%, 4.4%, 0.5%, 2.0% and 3.5% respectively, and all strains were susceptible to vancomycin, ertapenem and linezolid. The resistant rate to tetracycline, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, clarithromycin and erythromycin were 76.9%, 80.6%, 92.6% and 93.8%. The multiresistance strains were 725(65.4%) and the major multi-resistant type were resistannt to erythromycin, tetracycline, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and clarithromycin. Conclusion Streptococcus pneumoniae strains were isolated from respiratory tract sample mainly, the resistant rate to penicillin was low, and pencillin is still an efficient antibiotic to treat disease causeded by Streptococcus pneumoniae.
