The correlation of perforin and connexin 43 in viral myocarditis

Abstract:Purpose To study relationship between the expression of perforin and connexin 43 in viral myocarditis. Methods The expression of perforin and connexin 43 in cardiac muscle cells of mice with experimental viral myocarditis was determined by immunohistochemistry. Results In normal mice, perforin was negative and connexin 43 was located in the intercalated disks of cardiac muscle. In viral myocarditis, perforin was positive in the part of infiltrated inflammatory cells, where the expression of connexin 43 became much weak or even negative. Conclusion It may be one of the main factors which caused negative and abnormal expression of connexin 43 that perporin directly affects the normal expression of connexin 43 in vival myocarditis.
