Abstract:Schramm–Loewner evolution (SLE) is a one-parameter family of random planar curves introduced by Schramm in 1999 as the candidates for the scaling limits of the interfaces in the planar critical lattice models. This is the only possible process with conformal invariance and a certain “domain Markov property”. In 2010, Chelkak and Smirnov proved the conformal invariance of the scaling limits of the critial planar FK-Ising model which gave the convergence of the interface to $\text {SLE}_{16/3}$. We derive the arm exponents of $\text {SLE}_{\kappa }$ for $\kappa \in (4,8)$. Combining with the convergence of the interface, we derive the arm exponents of the critical FK-Ising model. We obtain six different patterns of boundary arm exponents and three different patterns of interior arm exponents of the critical planar FK-Ising model on the square lattice.
SLE partition functions via conformal welding of random surfaces

Abstract:SLE curves describe the scaling limit of interfaces from many 2D lattice models. Heuristically speaking, the SLE partition function is the continuum counterpart of the partition function of the corresponding discrete model. It is well known that conformally welding of Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) surfaces gives SLE curves as the interfaces. In this paper, we demonstrate in several settings how the SLE partition function arises from conformal welding of LQG surfaces. The common theme is that we conformally weld a collection of canonical LQG surfaces which produces a topological configuration with more than one conformal structure. Conditioning on the conformal moduli, the surface after welding is described by Liouville conformal field theory (LCFT), and the density of the random moduli contains the SLE partition function for the interfaces as a multiplicative factor. The settings we treat includes the multiple SLE for $\kappa\in (0,4)$, the flow lines of imaginary geometry on the disk with boundary marked points, and the boundary Green function. These results demonstrate an alternative approach to construct and study the SLE partition function, which complements the traditional method based on stochastic calculus and differential equation.

The bulk one-arm exponent for the CLE$_{κ'}$ percolations

Abstract:The conformal loop ensemble (CLE) is a conformally invariant random collection of loops. In the non-simple regime $\kappa'\in (4,8)$, it describes the scaling limit of the critical Fortuin-Kasteleyn (FK) percolations. CLE percolations were introduced by Miller-Sheffield-Werner (2017). The CLE$_{\kappa'}$ percolations describe the scaling limit of a natural variant of the FK percolation called the fuzzy Potts model, which has an additional percolation parameter $r$. Based on CLE percolations and assuming that the convergence of the FK percolation to CLE, K{ö}hler-Schindler and Lehmkuehler (2022) derived all the arm exponents for the fuzzy Potts model except the bulk one-arm exponent. In this paper, we exactly solve this exponent, which prescribes the dimension of the clusters in CLE$_{\kappa'}$ percolations. As a special case, the bichromatic one-arm exponent for the critical 3-state Potts model should be $4/135$. To the best of our knowledge, this natural exponent was not predicted in physics. Our derivation relies on the iterative construction of CLE percolations from the boundary conformal loop ensemble (BCLE), and the coupling between Liouville quantum gravity and SLE curves. The source of the exact solvability comes from the structure constants of boundary Liouville conformal field theory. A key technical step is to prove a conformal welding result for the target-invariant radial SLE curves. As intermediate steps in our derivation, we obtain several exact results for BCLE in both the simple and non-simple regimes, which extend results of Ang-Sun-Yu-Zhuang (2024) on the touching probability of non-simple CLE. This also provides an alternative derivation of the relation between the BCLE parameter $\rho$ and the additional percolation parameter $r$ in CLE percolations, which was originally due to Miller-Sheffield-Werner (2021, 2022).

$SLE_6$ and 2-d critical bond percolation on the square lattice

Abstract:Through the rotational invariance of the 2-d critical bond percolation exploration path on the square lattice we express Smirnov's edge parafermionic observable as a sum of two new edge observables. With the help of these two new edge observables we can apply the discrete harmonic analysis and conformal mapping theory to prove the convergence of the 2-d critical bond percolation exploration path on the square lattice to the trace of $SLE_6$ as the mesh size of the lattice tends to zero.

Abstract:In this article, we give an explicit relationship of SLE partition functions with Coulomb gas formalism of conformal field theory. We first construct a family of SLE${}_\kappa$ partition functions as Coulomb gas integrals and derive their various properties. In accordance with an interpretation as probabilistic correlations in loop $O(n)$ models, they are always positive when $\kappa\in (8/3,8)$, while they may have zeroes for $\kappa\leq 8/3$. They also admit a Fröbenius series expansion that matches with the algebraic content from CFT. Moreover, we check that at the first level of fusion, they have logarithmic asymptotic behavior when $\kappa=8/3$ and $\kappa=8$, in accordance with logarithmic minimal models $M(2,1)$ and $M(2,3)$, respectively. Second, we construct SLE${}_\kappa$ pure partition functions and show that they are continuous in $\kappa\in (0,8)$ and they decay to zero as a polynomial of $(8-\kappa)$ when $\kappa\to 8$. We explicitly relate the Coulomb gas integrals and pure partition functions together in terms of the meander matrix. As a by-product, our results yield a construction of global non-simple multiple chordal SLE${}_\kappa$ measures ($\kappa \in (4,8)$) uniquely determined by their re-sampling property.

On SLE martingales in boundary WZW models

Abstract:We consider the boundary WZW model on a half-plane with a cut growing according to the Schramm-Loewner stochastic evolution and the boundary fields inserted at the tip of the cut and at infinity. We study necessary and sufficient conditions for boundary correlation functions to be SLE martingales. Necessary conditions come from the requirement for the boundary field at the tip of the cut to have a depth two null vector. Sufficient conditions are established using Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations for boundary correlators. Combining these two approaches, we show that in the case of G=SU(2) the boundary correlator is an SLE martingale if and only if the boundary field carries spin 1/2. In the case of G=SU(n) and k=1, there are several situations when boundary one-point correlators are SLE(kappa)-martingales. If the boundary field is labelled by the defining n-dimensional representation of SU(n), we obtain kappa=2. For n even, by choosing the boundary field labelled by the (unique) self-adjoint fundamental representation, we get kappa=8/(n+2). We also study the situation when the distance between the two boundary fields is finite, and we show that in this case the SLE(kappa) evolution is replaced by SLE(kappa,rho) with rho=kappa-6.

Convergence of the Critical Planar Ising Interfaces to Hypergeometric SLE

Abstract:We consider the planar Ising model in rectangle $(\Omega; x^L, x^R, y^R, y^L)$ with alternating boundary condition: $\ominus$ along $(x^Lx^R)$ and $(y^Ry^L)$, $\xi^R\in\{\oplus, \text{free}\}$ along $(x^Ry^R)$, and $\xi^L\in\{\oplus, \text{free}\}$ along $(y^Lx^L)$. We prove that the interface of critical Ising model with these boundary conditions converges to the so-called hypergeometric SLE$_3$. The method developed in this paper does not require constructing new holomorphic observable and the input is the convergence of the interface with Dobrushin boundary condition. This method could be applied to other lattice models, for instance Loop-Erased Random Walk and level lines of discrete Gaussian Free Field.

Boundary touching probability and nested-path exponent for non-simple CLE

Abstract:The conformal loop ensemble (CLE) has two phases: for $\kappa \in (8/3, 4]$, the loops are simple and do not touch each other or the boundary; for $\kappa \in (4,8)$, the loops are non-simple and may touch each other and the boundary. For $\kappa\in(4,8)$, we derive the probability that the loop surrounding a given point touches the domain boundary. We also obtain the law of the conformal radius of this loop seen from the given point conditioned on the loop touching the boundary or not, refining a result of Schramm-Sheffield-Wilson (2009). As an application, we exactly evaluate the CLE counterpart of the nested-path exponent for the Fortuin-Kasteleyn (FK) random cluster model recently introduced by Song-Tan-Zhang-Jacobsen-Nienhuis-Deng (2022). This exponent describes the asymptotic behavior of the number of nested open paths in the open cluster containing the origin when the cluster is large. For Bernoulli percolation, which corresponds to $\kappa=6$, the exponent was derived recently in Song-Jacobsen-Nienhuis-Sportiello-Deng (2023) by a color switching argument. For $\kappa\neq 6$, and in particular for the FK-Ising case, our formula appears to be new. Our derivation begins with Sheffield's construction of CLE from which the quantities of interest can be expressed by radial SLE. We solve the radial SLE problem using the coupling between SLE and Liouville quantum gravity, along with the exact solvability of Liouville conformal field theory.

Near-critical dimers and massive SLE

Abstract:We consider the dimer model on the square and hexagonal lattices with doubly periodic weights. The purpose of this paper is threefold: (a) we establish a rigourous connection with the massive SLE$_2$ constructed by Makarov and Smirnov (and recently revisited by Chelkak and Wan); (b) we show that the convergence takes place in arbitrary bounded domains subject to Temperleyan boundary conditions, and that the scaling limit is universal; and (c) we prove conformal covariance of the scaling limit. For this we introduce an inhomogeneous near-critical dimer model, corresponding to a drift for the underlying random walk which is a smoothly varying vector field or alternatively to an inhomogeneous mass profile. When the vector field derives from a log-convex potential we prove that the corresponding loop-erased random walk has a universal scaling limit. Our techniques rely on an exact discrete Girsanov identity on the triangular lattice which may be of independent interest. We complement our results by stating precise conjectures making connections to a generalised Sine-Gordon model at the free fermion point.

Abstract:This article pertains to the classification of pairs of simple random curves with conformal Markov property and symmetry. We give the complete classification of such curves: conformal Markov property and symmetry single out a two-parameter family of random curves—Hypergeometric SLE—denoted by $$\mathrm {hSLE}_{\kappa }(\nu )$$ for $$\kappa \in (0,4]$$ and $$\nu <\kappa -6$$. The proof relies crucially on Dubédat’s commutation relation (Commun Pure Appl Math 60(12):1792–1847, 2007) and a uniqueness result proved in Miller and Sheffield (Ann Probab 44(3):1647–1722, 2016). The classification indicates that hypergeometric SLE is the only possible scaling limit of the interfaces in critical lattice models (conjectured or proved to be conformally invariant) in topological rectangles with alternating boundary conditions. We also prove various properties of $$\mathrm {hSLE}_{\kappa }(\nu )$$ with $$\kappa \in (0,8)$$: continuity, reversibility, target-independence, and conditional law characterization. As by-products, we give two applications of these properties. The first one is about the critical Ising interfaces. We prove the convergence of the Ising interface in rectangles with alternating boundary conditions. This result was first proved by Izyurov (Commun Math Phys 337(1):225–252, 2015), and our proof is different. Our method is based on the properties of $$\mathrm {hSLE}$$ and is easy to generalize to more complicated boundary conditions and to other models. The second application is the existence of the so-called pure partition functions of multiple SLEs. Such existence was proved for $$\kappa \in (0,8){\setminus } {\mathbb {Q}}$$ in Kytölä and Peltola (Commun Math Phys 346(1):237–292, 2016), and it was later proved for $$\kappa \in (0,4]$$ in Peltola and Wu (Commun. Math. Phys. 366(2):469–536, 2019). We give a new proof of the existence for $$\kappa \in (0,6]$$ using the properties of $$\mathrm {hSLE}$$.
Conformal welding of quantum disks and multiple SLE: the non-simple case

Abstract:Two-pointed quantum disks with a weight parameter $W>0$ is a canonical family of finite-volume random surfaces in Liouville quantum gravity. We extend the conformal welding of quantum disks in [AHS23] to the non-simple regime, and give a construction of the multiple SLE associated with any given link pattern for $\kappa\in(4,8)$. Our proof is based on connections between SLE and Liouville conformal field theory (LCFT), where we show that in the conformal welding of multiple forested quantum disks, the surface after welding can be described in terms of LCFT, and the random conformal moduli contains the SLE partition function for the interfaces as a multiplicative factor. As a corollary, for $\kappa\in(4,8)$, we prove the existence of the multiple SLE partition functions, which are smooth functions satisfying a system of PDEs and conformal covariance.

Backbone exponent for two-dimensional percolation

Abstract:We derive an exact expression for the celebrated backbone exponent for Bernoulli percolation in dimension two at criticality. It turns out to be a root of an elementary function. Contrary to previously known arm exponents for this model, which are all rational, it has a transcendental value. Our derivation relies on the connection to the SLE$_\kappa$ bubble measure, the coupling between SLE and Liouville quantum gravity, and the integrability of Liouville conformal field theory. Along the way, we derive a formula not only for $\kappa=6$ (corresponding to percolation), but for all $\kappa \in (4,8)$.

Abstract:This article focuses on the characterization of global multiple Schramm-Loewner evolutions (SLE). The chordal SLE describes the scaling limit of a single interface in various critical lattice models with Dobrushin boundary conditions, and similarly, global multiple SLEs describe scaling limits of collections of interfaces in critical lattice models with alternating boundary conditions. In this article, we give a minimal amount of characterizing properties for the global multiple SLEs: we prove that there exists a unique probability measure on collections of pairwise disjoint continuous simple curves with a certain conditional law property. As a consequence, we obtain the convergence of multiple interfaces in the critical Ising, FK-Ising and percolation models.

Abstract:In this contribution we derive an explicit formula for the boundary non-crossing probabilities for Slepian processes associated with the piecewise linear boundary function. This formula is used to develop an approximation formula to the boundary non-crossing probabilities for general continuous boundaries. The formulas we developed are easy to implement in calculation the boundary non-crossing probabilities.

Abstract:Non-Hermitian systems can exhibit extraordinary boundary behaviors, known as the non-Hermitian skin effects, where all the eigenstates are localized exponentially at one side of lattice model. To give a full understanding and control of non-Hermitian skin effects, we have developed the non-Hermitian generalized Bloch theorem to provide the analytical expression for all solvable eigenvalues and eigenstates, in which translation symmetry is broken due to the open boundary condition. By introducing the Vieta's theorem for any polynomial equation with arbitrary degree, our approach is widely applicable for one-dimensional non-Hermitian tight-binding models. With the non-Hermitian generalized Bloch theorem, we can analyze the condition of existence or non-existence of the non-Hermitian skin effects at a mathematically rigorous level. Additionally, the non-Hermitian generalized Bloch theorem allows us to explore the real-space exceptional points. We also establish the connection between our approach and the generalized Brillouin zone method. To illustrate our main results, we examine two concrete examples including the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger chain model with long-range couplings, and the ladder model with non-reciprocal interaction. Our non-Hermitian generalized Bloch theorem provides an efficient way to analytically study various non-Hermitian phenomena in more general cases.
