Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents from leaves of Phyllostachys pubescens. Method Column chromatography on sephadex LH-20 as well as preparative HPLC and spectral analysis were used to isolate and elucidate the constituents. Result Six compounds were isolated from leaves of Phyllostachys pubescens, and identified as vanillin (I), syringic aldehyde (II), p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (III), vanillic acid (IV), syringic acid (V), 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy cinnamic acid, ethyl ester (VI). Conclusion All above the compounds were isolated from the plant for the first time.

Abstract:Objective To study the chemical constituents from the fruits of Lycium barbarum.Methods The compounds were isolated and purified by column chromatography and RP-HPLC.Their structures were elucidated by means of physicochemical properties and spectroscopic analyses(UV,MS,1H-NMR,and13C-NMR).Results Twelve compounds were separated and identified,including six phenolic acids: protocatechuic acid(1),dihydroisoferulic acid(2),caffeic acid(3),Z-p-hydroxy-cinnamic acid(4),E-p-hydroxy-cinnamic acid(5),and trans-cinnamic acid(6);Three coumarins: scopoletin(7),isoscopoletin(8),esculetin(9);Two pyrrole derivatives: 4-[formyl-5-(hydroxymethyl)-1H-pyrrol-1-yl] butanoic acid(10) and 4-[formyl-5-(methoxymethyl)-1H-pyrrol-1yl] butanoic acid(11);and 4′-hydroxyacetophenone(12).Conclusion Except compounds 3,5,and 7,others are isolated from this plant for the first time.Compounds 2,4,8,9,and 12 are firstly isolated from the plants in genus of Lycium L.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To study the chemical constituents of ethanolic extract from herbs of Dicliptera chinensis. METHOD The compounds were separated by silica gel column chromatography, preparation TLC and reverse phase HPLC, their structures were identified by the spectroscopic methods of UV, NMR and MS. RESULT Seven compounds were isolated from ethyl acetate extract. Their structure were identified as octasulphur (1), secoisolariciresinol dimethyl ether diacetate (2), 5-methoxy-4, 4'-di-O-methyl secolariciresinol (3), chinensinaphthol methyl ester (4), loliolide (5), beta-sitosterol 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (6) and stigmasterol 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (7). CONCLUSION All the compounds except 6 were obtained from the plants of Dicliptera for the first time.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the value of spectral computed tomography quantitative parameters in the assessment of pathological grade of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma before operation. Methods: The imaging findings of 52 patients with confirmed esophageal squamous cell carcinoma by surgery and pathology were prospectively analyzed in Henan Provincial People's Hospital from June 2016 to May 2017.There were 43 males and 9 females, aged 49-76 years, with an average age of (66±8) years.All the patients were divided into three groups based on the pathological finding: well-differentiated group (n=12), moderately-differentiated group (n=20), poorly-differentiated group (n=20). All the patients received chest plain scan and double phase enhanced scan of gemstone spectral computed tomography.The enhancement attenuation (HU), the average of the slope of the spectral Hounsfield Unit curve (λ(HU)), normalized iodine concentration (NIC), normalized effective atomic number (Z(eff-a)) were measured and calculated.The difference in HU, λ(HU), NIC, Z(eff-a) among different grades were statistically analyzed.The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of single and combined parameters in the differentiation of poorly-differentiated and well-moderately differentiated esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Results: There were significant differences in HU, λ(HU), NIC, Z(eff-a) among different pathological grading of the esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in arterial phase and venous phase (F=4.496-9.056, H=23.204, 20.724, all P<0.05). The best single parameter to differentiate poorly-differentiated from well-moderately differentiated esophageal squamous cell carcinoma was NIC in arterial phase with areas under the ROC curve (AUC), the cutoff value, sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of 0.860, 0.197, 65.0%, 96.9%, 84.6%, respectively; the best combination of parameters was HU+ NIC+ λ(HU) in arterial phase with AUC, the threshold of predicted probability, sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of 0.913, 0.380, 85.0%, 81.3%, 82.7%, respectively. Conclusion: Gemstone spectral imaging quantitative parameters can be used to evaluate the pathological grading of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, the NIC and HU+ NIC+ λ(HU) in arterial phase have the highest differential diagnostic efficiency.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE Elucidation of the chemical constituents from fruits of Schisandra chinensis(Turcz) Baill.METHODS Chromatographic means and spectral analysis were applied to identify chemical constituents in the title plant. RESULTS Four compounds were isolated and characterized as ganwuweizic acid(Ⅰ),mono-ethyl fumarate(Ⅱ),tetracosanoic acid(Ⅲ) and meso-dihydroguaiaretic acid(Ⅳ) respectively.CONCLUSION Ⅰ～Ⅲ were isolated from S.chinensis for the first time and the ~(13)C NMR data of meso-dihydroguaiaretic acid(Ⅳ) was firstly offered and confirmed by 2D NMR analysis.

Abstract:Chemical investigation on the aqueous extract of Dendrobium aphyllum led to the isolation of thirty-one constituents with structures identified by analysis of the extensive spectroscopic data (1D/2D NMR, MS, UV, and ECD), including previously undescribed two bibenzyls, one furfural, and one phenolic acid, namely trigonopol D (1), trigonopol C (2), dendrofunan A (10), and 6-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-3,6-dioxohexyl acetate (30), respectively, as well as twenty-seven known ones. Among them, there were one new natural product (11), seven compounds (6-7, 9, 12, 20, 28, 31) described from the genus Dendrobium for the first time, and fifteen compounds (8, 13-17, 19, 21-27, 29) isolated from D. aphyllum for the first time. Further, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potentials of fifteen compounds (4-5, 8, 11-12, 14-19, 22, 24, 26, and 29) with significant scavenging capacities against DPPH and hydroxyl radicals, and virtual docking activities inhibiting COX-2 and 5-LOX, respectively. Our study may draw the attention of medicinal plant taxonomists and supply potential quality markers for discrimination of D. aphyllum from other species in Dendrobium genus.

Abstract:The Squint Club, a group of ophthalmologists with strabismus expertise, meets once a year to discuss difficult and unique clinical cases, new ideas about treatment and unique notions of pathophysiology regarding various disorders of ocular motor alignment. It was therefore surprising and noteworthy when several years ago at this meeting the late Arthur Rosenbaum presented a paper in which he stated that he thought the most perplexing and difficult form of strabismus in his practice was intermittent exotropia. Many in the audience were surprised by this statement. An unstated concern was the thought that intermittent exotropia might be too simple a condition for this august body to discuss. After all, intermittent exotropia appears to be an uncomplicated form of strabismus that ought to be easily treated with an expectation of consistent and excellent outcomes since it is characterised by: 1. Occurrence in developmentally and neurologically normal children (unlike the case of infantile exotropia).1 2. Initial normal binocular development at both distance and near fixation. 3. A relatively low incidence of amblyopia which when it does occur is mild.2 4. Occurrence of dissociated strabismus is less common than in infantile forms of strabismus.3 5. Surgery appears to be the treatment of choice for all but the smallest deviations.4 Rosenbaum, however, convincingly made his point by emphasising that there was much that remained enigmatic about intermittent exotropia. These enigmas are not merely of academic interest, he argued, but central to the problems of managing children with intermittent exotropia. Abstract:5-[2'-(3"-Hydroxy-5"-methoxyphenyl)-ethyl]-1,3-benzodioxole and 7-hydroxy-2-methoxy-1,4-phenanthrenedione, along with 16 known compounds were identified from the stems of Dendrobium densifiorum Lindl. ex Wall. (Orchidaceae). The structure of a previously reported compound dendroflorin obtained from the plant was revised on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. Among the identified compounds, five were found to exhibit anti-platelet aggregation activity in vitro.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents in the dried roots of Saposhnikovia divaricata.METHOD:The chemical constituents were isolated by various column chromatographic methods and structurally elucidated by IR, UV, MS and NMR evidences.RESULT:Eighteen compounds were obtained and identified as 3'-O-angeloylhamaudol (1), isobergapten (2), imperatorin (3), pentacosane acid (4), anomalin (5), decursin (6), 5-methoxy-7-(3,3-dimethylallyl- oxy)coumarin (7), decursinol angelate (8), xanthotoxin (9), bergapten (10), tectochrysin (11), scopoletin (12), hamaudol (13), ledebouriellol (14), cimifugin (15), sec-O-glucosylhamaudol (16), 4'-O-beta-D-glucosyl-5-O-methylvisamminol (17), and prim-O-glucosylcimifugin (18).CONCLUSION:Compounds 2, 6-8, and 11 were isolated from the roots of S. divaricata for the first time. Compounds 1 and 13-18 were chromones, 2, 3, 5-10 and 12 were coumarins, 4 was fatty acid, and 11 was flavonoid.

Results Ten compounds were isolated from the EtOAc extract and were identified as 2-methyl pentyl (2E, 6S)-6-hydroxy-2, 6-dimethyl-2, 7-octadienoate (1), (2E, 6S)-6-α-L-arabino pyranosyloxy-2, 6-dimethyl-2, 7-octadienoic acid (2), ethyl (2E, 6S)-6-hydroxy-2, 6-dimethyl-2, 7-octadienoate (3), 5, 2', 5'-trihydroxy-3, 7, 4'-trimethoxyflavone (4), (2R, 3R)-3, 3', 5, 5', 7-pentahydroxyflavanone (5), 2', 4'-dihydroxy-4-methoxychalcone (6), kaempferol (7), apigenin (8), 4', 7-dihydroxyflavone (9), and 5, 7, 4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxyflavone (10). Conclusion Compound 1 is a new compound, compound 3 is firstly obtained from natural source, and compounds 4 -10 are isolated from G. chinensis for the first time. Furthermore, the assignments of 13C-NMR data of compounds 3 and 4 are reported in this paper for the first time.

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to investigate the chemical components present in the ethyl acetate extract of Styrax dasyanthus leaves. Methods: Chemical components were isolated and purified using organic solvent decolorization, extraction, preparation of the liquid phase, silica gel column chromatography, and semi-preparative high-performance liquid chromatography. The structure identification of the isolated compounds was based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data and carbon spectrum matching analysis. Results: A total of six compounds were isolated from Styrax dasyanthus, which were identified as (-)-secoisolarciresinol (1), dibutylphthalate (2), dihydromyricetin (3), kaempferol-3-O-\(\beta\)-D-glucopyranoside (4), kaempferol-3-rutinoside (3,4',5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone-3-rutinoside) (5), and (-)-secoisolariciresinol-4-O-\(\beta\)-D-glucopyranoside (6). Conclusion: This study represents the first isolation of these six compounds from Styrax dasyanthus.

Abstract:Phytochemical characterization of the stem and root bark of Daphne giraldii Nitsche. led to the isolation of eight flavones (1–8), six flavans (9–14) and six coumarins (15–20). The structures of these compounds were examined with spectroscopic methods, and also by comparing to previously reported spectroscopic data. Among them, ten compounds (1–3, 9 and 15–20) are reported for the first time for this species, and all compounds with prenyl substitutions have not been identified in other species of genus Daphne, or even in the family Thymelaeaceae. We also describe the chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds.
