Abstract:After reading such a question, any mathematician or physicist will say that, according to a well known result of L.P. Eisenhart found in 1926, the answer is surely "One", namely the constant allowing to describe the so-called " constant Riemannian curvature " condition. The purpose of this paper is to prove the contrary by studying the case of two dimensional Riemannian geometry in the light of an old work of E. Vessiot published in 1903 but still totally unknown today after more than a century. In fact, we shall compute locally the Vessiot structure equations and prove that there are indeed " Two " Vessiot structure constants satisfying a single linear Jacobi condition showing that one of them must vanish while the other one must be equal to the known one or that both must be equal. This result depends on deep mathematical reasons in the formal theory of Lie pseudogroups, involving both the Spencer -cohomology and diagram chasing in homological algebra. Another similar example will illustrate and justify this comment out of the classical tensorial framework of the famous " equivalence problem ". The case of contact transformations will also be studied. Though it is quite unexpected, we shall reach the conclusion that the mathematical foundations of both classical and conformal Riemannian geometry must be revisited. Invariant Geometric Structures on Almost Abelian Lie Groups

Abstract:An almost Abelian group is a non-Abelian Lie group with a codimension 1 Abelian subgroup. This paper investigates invariant Hermitian and Kähler structures on connected complex almost Abelian groups. We find explicit formulas for the left and right Haar measures, the modular function, and left and right generator vector fields on simply connected complex almost Abelian groups. From the generator fields, we obtain invariant vector and tensor field frames, allowing us to find an explicit form for all invariant tensor fields. Namely, all such invariant tensor fields have constant coefficients in the invariant frame. From this, we classify all invariant Hermitian forms on complex simply connected almost Abelian groups, and we prove the nonexistence of invariant Kähler forms on all such groups. Via constructions involving the pullback of the quotient map, we extend the explicit description of invariant Hermitian structures and the nonexistence of Kähler structures to connected almost Abelian groups.

Abstract:We study compact complex manifolds $M$ admitting a conformal holomorphic Riemannian structure invariant under the action of a complex semi-simple Lie group $G$. We prove that if the group $G$ acts transitively and essentially, then $M$ is conformally flat.

On Some Local Geometry of Bi-Contact Structures

Abstract:We investigate the local geometry of a pair of independent contact structures on 3-manifolds under maps that independently preserve each contact structure. We discover that such maps are homotheties on the contact 1-forms and we discover differential invariants associated to such structures under these equivalences. This allows us to generalize the notion of contact circles and (equilateral) hyperbolas to contact ellipses and hyperbolas. Moreover, these invariants may sometimes be used to define a complete local normal form and in at least one case are related to symplectic structures through a natural $e$-structure on a bundle arising from the Cartan equivalence method. Finally, there is a type of natural Riemannian metric (but not necessarily the well-known associated contact metric) and we discover certain curvatures may be written in terms of the bi-contact differential invariants.

Abstract:For a general affine connection with parallel torsion and curvature, we show that a post-Lie algebra structure exists on its space of vector fields, generalizing previous results for flat connections. However, for non-flat connections, the vector fields alone are not enough, as the presence of curvature also necessitates that we include endomorphisms corresponding to infinitesimal actions of the holonomy group. We give details on the universal Lie algebra of this post-Lie algebra and give applications for solving differential equations on manifolds.

Abstract:Let $(G,g)$ be a 4-dimensional Riemannian Lie group with a 2-dimensional left-invariant, conformal foliation $\mathcal{F}$ with minimal leaves. Let $J$ be an almost Hermitian structure on $G$ adapted to the foliation $\mathcal{F}$. The corresponding Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ must then belong to one of 20 families $\mathfrak{g}_1,\dots,\mathfrak{g}_{20}$ according to S. Gudmundsson and M. Svensson. We classify such structures $J$ which are almost Kähler $(\mathcal{A}\mathcal{K})$, integrable $(\mathcal{I})$ or Kähler $(\mathcal{K})$. Hereby, we construct 16 multi-dimensional almost Kähler families, 18 integrable families and 11 Kähler families.

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra over $\mathbb{C}$. In the 1950s Chevalley showed that $\mathfrak{g}$ admits particular bases, now called ``Chevalley bases'', for which the corresponding structure constants are integers. Such bases are not unique but, using Lusztig's theory of canonical bases, one can single out a ``canonical'' Chevalley basis which is unique up to a global sign. In this paper, we give explicit formulae for the structure constants with respect to such a basis.

Abstract:This article reveals a significant connection in geometry: when the Lee form $\theta$ is normal to an almost Hermitian manifold $N$, it implies that $N$ possesses a nearly Kähler structure. Abstract:For a simple complex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, fixing a principal $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-triple and highest weight vectors induces a basis of $\mathfrak{g}$ as vector space. For $\mathfrak{sl}_n$, we describe how to compute the Lie bracket in this basis using transvectants. This generalizes a well-known rule for $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ using Poisson brackets and degree 2 monomials in two variables. Our proof method uses a graphical calculus for classical invariant theory. Other Lie algebra types are discussed.

The structure of locally conformally product Lie algebras

Abstract:A locally conformally product (LCP) structure on a compact conformal manifold is a closed non-exact Weyl connection (i.e.~a linear connection which is locally but not globally the Levi-Civita connection of Riemannian metrics in the conformal class), with reducible holonomy. A left-invariant LCP structure on a compact quotient $\Gamma\backslash G$ of a simply connected Riemannian Lie group $(G,g)$ with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ can be characterized in terms of a closed 1-form $\theta\in\mathfrak{g}^*$ and a non-zero subspace $\mathfrak{u}\subset \mathfrak{g}$ satisfying some algebraic conditions. We show that these conditions are equivalent to the fact that $\mathfrak{g}$ is isomorphic to a semidirect product of a non-unimodular Lie algebra acting on an abelian one by a conformal representation. This extends to the general case previous results holding for solvmanifolds. In addition, we construct explicit examples of compact LCP manifolds which are not solvmanifolds.

Abstract:Based on a general formula due to <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://R.Bryant" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>, we work out the topological structure of the space of torsion-free $G_2$-structures generating the same associated Riemannian metric on a compact $7$-manifold. We also identify a corresponding Lie group-theoretic structure of the space. These observations are then used to describe the moduli space of torsion-free $G_2$-structures in certain cases - by way of covering spaces.

Abstract:On the generalized tangent bundle of a smooth manifold, we study skew-symmetric endomorphism satisfying an arbitrary polynomial equation with real constant coefficients. We study the compatibility of these structures with the de Rham operator and the Courant-Dorfman bracket. In particular we isolate several conditions that when restricted to the motivating example of generalized almost complex structure are equivalent to the notion of integrability.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to study the geometry of the connected unit component of the real general linear Lie group $4$ dimensional $G_0$ as a Lorentzian and flat affine manifold. As the group $G_0$ is naturally equipped with a bi-invariant Hessian metric $k^+$, relative to a bi-invariant flat affine structure $\nabla$, we examine both structures and the relationships between them. Both structures are defined using the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, the first one through the trace $k(u,v):=\mathrm{trace}(u\circ v)$ and the second by the composition $\nabla_{u^+}v^+:=(u\circ v)^+$, where $u,v\in\mathfrak{g}$. The curvatures, tidal force, and Jacobi vector fields of $(G_0, k^+)$ are determined in Section 1. Section 2 discusses the causal structure of $k^+$, while Section 3 focuses on the developed map relative to $\nabla$ in the sense of C. Ehresmann.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to describe two geometric notions, holomorphic Norden structures and K\"{a}hler-Norden structures on Hom-Lie groups, and study their relationships in the left invariant setting. We study K\"{a}hler-Norden structures with abelian complex structures and give the curvature properties of holomorphic Norden structures on Hom-Lie groups. Finally, we show that any left-invariant holomorphic Hom-Lie group is a flat (holomorphic Norden Hom-Lie algebra carries a Hom-Left-symmetric algebra) if its left-invariant complex structure (complex structure) is abelian.
