Abstract:Dispersion is a critical phenomenon that underlies the frequency-dependence of light propagation in a medium, and it plays an essential role in various optical systems such as communication, imaging, and sensing. Different dispersion states exhibit specific applications such as achromatic imaging and hyper-dispersive spectroscopy. Despite much recent work on metalenses-based dispersion-related devices, most of these systems can only achieve a fixed dispersion state. In this paper, we demonstrate the dynamic realization of achromatic, diffractive, refractive, and hyper-dispersive states using three near-infrared metalenses by switching a phase-change material, Sb2S3, between its crystalline and amorphous states. The focusing efficiencies of these devices at different dispersion states are 56.91% and 34.2%, 36.48% and 27.36%, and 34.18% and 47.46% respectively, while maintaining near diffraction limit performance at least one state. Our proposed method offers a new possibility for creating multi-dispersion-state devices and has potential for more applications in optical technology, tomography and display technology.
