In the wavefield separation process by using SVD filtering method, we should choose appropriate number of eigenimages to reconstruct different wavefield, otherwise the separated wavefield will have great coefficient-error. In addition, the linear space which is expanded by the eigenimages of the initial wavefield as a group of standard orthogonal basis is a proper subspace of the initial wavefield space. Obviously, the dimensionality of eigenimages space is lower than the initial wavefield space. Therefore, downgoing and upgoing wavefield in the original signal space may be not in the eigenimages space and they will always not be fully reconstructed by only using the eigenimages whatever reconstructed coefficients we choose. This space dimensionality reduction brings a new kind of error besides the coefficient-error in the wavefield separation experiment by using SVD filtering algorithm.
