Abstract:The intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (IMCC) is frequently misdiagnosed as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with cirrhosis, by numerous radiologists and clinical doctors, which results in the incorrect therapeutic treatment. A retrospective case-control study was conducted, and the contrast-enhanced multiple-phase (CEMP) computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of 22 pathologically confirmed IMCC patients and 22 HCC controls with underlying liver cirrhosis were analyzed at the present hospital, from January 2010 to December 2015. In addition, serum tests were conducted and clinical symptoms of patients evaluated. A statistical analysis revealed that the enhancement pattern, signal on MRI delayed phase (P<0.001), maximum diameter, capsule retraction, portal vein invasion, bile duct dilation and abdominal lymphadenectasis characteristics were different between IMCC and HCC patients with cirrhosis. On CEMP CT and MRI analysis, the most frequently occurring enhancement patterns of IMCC were progressive patterns (P=0.001 or P<0.001). Conversely, the most frequently occurring enhancement patterns present in HCC were the washout patterns (P<0.001). Therefore, the diagnosis of IMCC in cirrhotic patients should be verified with CEMP CT and MRI analysis for the future, to determine presence or absence of progressive and/or peripheral rim-like enhancement, a hyperintensive delayed phase with capsule retraction, portal vein invasion, bile duct dilation, abdominal lymphadenectasis and increased levels of CA199.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the MRI findings of combined hepatocellular cholangio-carcinoma(cHCC-CC)and their correlation with pathologic types. Methods Twenty-nine patients with surgical pathology-confirmed cHCC-CC(20 patients with 24 cHCC-CCs were categorized as classical, and 9 patients with 10 cHCC-CCs as subtypes with stem cell features)were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical features, morphological and MRI signal characteristics on T1WI, T2WI, dynamic enhancement patterns and diffusion-weighted imaging were evaluated in detail and compared these imaging findings with pathologic types. The ADC values of 17 patients with 24 cHCC-CCs were measured. The imaging features were compared by using t test and Fisher test. Results The average maximum diameter of classical type and stem cell feature type were (3.8 ± 2.5) cm and (4.5 ± 1.8) cm, respectively, there was no significant difference(t=0.749,P=0.462). Seven cHCC-CCs showed heterogeneously high signal and twenty-seven cHCC-CCs showed low signal on T1WI. Seventeen cHCC-CCs showed hypointense in the central with mixed high and low signal on T2WI. Twenty-one cHCC-CCs showed peripheral enhancement and 13 lesions showed heterogeneously enhancement during arterial phase. The enhancement pattern of quickly wash-in and quickly wash-out were seen in 17 lesions, the other 17 lesions showed reversal enhancement. Twenty-five lesions presented with pseucapsule. There was no significant difference in clinical features and MRI findings between the two pathologic tumor types(classical type versus stem cell feature type)except for the enhancement pattern in arterial phase and peri-tumoral bile duct dilatation(P<0.05).The mean ADC value of the tumors with stem cell feature type(1.41 ± 0.52) × 10-3mm2/s was mildly lower than that of classical type (1.60 ± 0.39) × 10-3mm2/s, and no statistical differences were found(t=-1.005,P=0.326). Conclusions The MRI findings of cHCC-CCs has specificity. However, it is not easy to distinguish the classical type and stem cell feature type of cHCC-CC only by MRI findings.

Abstract:Background. The distinction between combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) before the operation has an important clinical significance for optimizing the treatment plan and predicting the prognosis of patients. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been widely used in the preoperative diagnosis and evaluation of primary liver malignant tumors. Purpose. The aim is to study the value of preoperative clinical data and enhanced MRI in the differential diagnosis of HCC and cHCC-CC and obtain independent risk factors for predicting cHCC-CC. Study type. Retrospective. Population. The clinical and imaging data of 157 HCC and 59 cHCC-CC patients confirmed by pathology were collected. Field Strength/Sequence. 1.5T; cross-sectional T1WI (gradient double echo sequence); cross-sectional T2WI (fast spin echo sequence, fat suppression); enhancement (3D LAVA technology). Assessment. The differences between the HCC and cHCC-CC patients were compared. Statistic Tests. Using the t-test, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis, P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Result. 1. CHCC-CC was more likely to show multiple lesions than HCC (28.81% vs. 10.83%, P = 0.001 ) and more prone to microvascular invasion (MVI) (36.31% vs. 61.02%, P < 0.001 ). However, HCC had a higher incidence of liver cirrhosis than cHCC-CC (50.85% vs. 72.61%, P = 0.003 ). 2. The incidence of nonsmooth margin was higher in the cHCC-CC group (84.75% vs. 52.23%, P < 0.001 ). The incidence of peritumor enhancement in the arterial phase was higher in the cHCC-CC group (11.46% vs. 62.71%, P < 0.001 ) 3. According to the multivariate analysis, arterial peritumor enhancement (OR = 8.833,95%CI:4.033,19.346, P < 0.001 ) was an independent risk factor for cHCC-CC ( P < 0.001 )). It had high sensitivity (62.71%) and specificity (88.54%) in the diagnosis of cHCC-CC. Date Conclusions. Liver cirrhosis and the imaging findings of GD-DTPA-enhanced MRI are helpful for the differential diagnosis of HCC and cHCC-CC. In addition, the imaging sign of peritumoral enhancement in the arterial phase has high sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of cHCC-CC.

Abstract:Purpose To retrospectively compare the perfusion parameters of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) measured with dynamic contrast material-enhanced (DCE) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging with surrounding liver parenchyma to determine the relationship between these parameters and uncensored overall survival (OS). Materials and Methods This retrospective study had institutional review board approval, and informed consent was waived. DCE MR imaging was performed in 92 patients with advanced HCC before systemic treatment was administered (19 patients received a placebo). Three semiquantitative (peak, slope, and area under the gadolinium concentration-time curve [AUC]) and six quantitative (arterial fraction, arterial flow, portal flow, total blood flow, distribution volume, and mean transit time) parameters were calculated by placing regions of interest in the largest area of the tumor and background liver parenchyma. The DCE MR imaging parameters between the tumor and normal liver were compared with paired Wilcoxon test. By using the Cox proportional hazards model for univariate and multivariate analyses, the association of DCE MR imaging parameters and OS was investigated. Results HCC demonstrated significantly higher peak, slope, AUC, arterial fraction, and arterial flow but lower portal flow, distribution volume, and mean transit time than did the background liver (all P < .05). Patients with high peak in the tumor had longer OS (P = .005) than did those with low peak. Cox multivariate analysis identified peak as an independent predictor of OS (P = .032) after adjusting for age, sex, treatment, tumor size, and portal vein thrombosis. Conclusion DCE MR imaging parameters can be used to differentiate advanced HCC from the background liver, and peak, a semiquantitative parameter, is associated with outcome in patients with advanced HCC before systemic therapy. © RSNA, 2016 An earlier incorrect version of this article appeared online. Abstract:Background: Combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CC) is an uncommon primary liver malignancy and little known about the clinical and imaging characteristics of cHCC-CC. We aim to define the demographics, imaging features of cHCC-CC on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) in this study. Methods: From January 2005 to December 2014, 45 patients with pathologically proven cHCC-CC who underwent preoperative CEUS and 43 patients who had additional CT scan in our institution were included. A retrospective review of the imaging studies and clinical data in these patients was conducted. Results: In our series, cHCC-CC accounted for 1.6 % of all primary liver malignancy. Mean age of patient with cHCC-CC was 52.8 year (range: 28-74 year) and 88.9 % (40/45) of patients were male. Thirty of forty five patients (66.7 %) had cirrhosis and 20 % (9/45) of patients had chronic hepatitis B without cirrhosis. Alpha--fetoprotein (AFP) was elevated in 62.2 % (28/45) of patients and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) elevated in 22.2 % (10/45) of patients). Both AFP and CA19-9 were simultaneously elevated in 15.6 % (7/45) of patients. Enhancement pattern resembling cholangiocarcinoma (CC) was noted in 53.3 % (24/45) of patients (on CEUS and in 30.2 % (13/43) of patients at CT. Enhancement pattern resembling hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was observed in 42.2 % (19/45) of patients on CEUS and in 58.1 % (25/43) of patients at CT. The percentage of tumors showing CC enhancement pattern (27.9 %, 12/43) was comparable with that of tumors showing HCC enhancement pattern (44.2 %, 19/43) on both CEUS and CT (p = 0.116). Simultaneous elevation of tumor markers (AFP and CA19-9) or tumor marker elevation (AFP or CA19-9) in discordance with enhancement pattern on CEUS was demonstrated in 51.1 % (23/45) of patients and on CT in 53.5 % (23/43) of patients, which was significantly more than simultaneous elevation of tumor markers (AFP and CA19-9) alone (p = 0.000). Conclusions: The clinical characteristics of cHCC-CC are similar to those of HCC. The cHCC-CC tumors display enhancement patterns resembling CC or HCC in comparable proportion on both CEUS and CT. Combination of simultaneous elevation of tumor makers (AFP and CA19-9) and tumor mark elevation (AFP or CA19-9) in discordance with presumptive imaging findings on CEUS or CT may lead significantly more patients to be suspicious of the diagnosis of cHCC-CC.

Abstract:Background: Combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CC) is a rare primary liver tumor, which has overlapping imaging features with mass forming intra-hepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Previous studies reported imaging features more closely resemble ICC and the aim of our study was to examine the differential MRI features of cHCC-CC and ICC with emphasis on enhancement pattern observations of gadolinium enhanced MRI. Methods: Institutional review board approval with consent waiver was obtained for this retrospective bi-centric study. Thirty-three patients with pathologically proven cHCC-CC and thirty-eight patients with pathologically proven ICC, who had pre-operative MRI, were identified. MRI images were analyzed for tumor location and size, T1 and T2 signal characteristics, the presence/absence of: cirrhosis, intra-lesional fat, hemorrhage/hemosiderin, scar, capsular retraction, tumor thrombus, biliary dilatation, degree of arterial enhancement, enhancement pattern, pseudocapsule and washout. Associations between MRI features and tumor type were examined using the Fisher's exact and chi-square tests. Results: Strong arterial phase enhancement and the presence of: washout, washout and progression, intra-lesional fat and hemorrhage were all strongly associated with cHCC-CC (P < 0.001). While cHCC-CC had a varied enhancement pattern, the two most common enhancement patterns were peripheral persistent (n = 6) and heterogeneous hyperenhancement with washout (n = 6), compared to ICC where the most common enhancement patterns were peripheral hypoenhancement with progression (n = 18) followed by heterogeneous hypoenhancement with progression (n = 14) (P < 0.001). Conclusion: The cHCC-CC enhancement pattern seems to more closely resemble HCC with the degree of arterial hyperenhancement and the presence of washout being valuable in differentiating cHCC-CC from ICC. However the presence of washout and progression, in the same lesion or a predominantly peripheral /rim hyperenhancing mass were also seen as important features that should alert the radiologist to the possibility of a cHCC-CC.

Abstract:PURPOSE: To investigate the significance of MR features based on the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS ver. 2018) for identifying the expression of cytokeratin 19 (CK-19) in patients with combined hepatocellular carcinoma-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CCA) before surgery.PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study enrolled 174 patients pathologically confirmed to have cHCC-CCA according to the 2019 WHO classification. The preoperative MR imaging features and clinicopathological findings were retrospectively evaluated and compared between the CK-19-positive and CK-19-negative cHCC-CCA groups.RESULTS: One hundred seventy-four patients (mean age, males vs females: 56.6 ± 10.0 years vs 54.7 ± 14.2 years) were evaluated. The presence of mosaic architecture, targetoid appearance, cholangiectasis, hepatic capsule retraction, and corona enhancement was significantly higher in the CK-19-positive group (all p < 0.05), while nonrim arterial phase hyperenhancement (APHE) was more common in the CK-19-negative group (p = 0.04). The univariate analysis showed that hepatitis B virus infection, CEA > 5 ng/mL, tumor size, nonrim APHE, mosaic architecture, targetoid appearance, cholangiectasis, hepatic capsule retraction, and corona enhancement were significant risk factors for CK-19-positive cHCC-CCA (all p < 0.05). Unfortunately, the multivariate analysis revealed that only corona enhancement (OR = 2.359, p = 0.03) was an independent risk factor associated with CK-19-positive cHCC-CCA.CONCLUSION: Corona enhancement is significantly correlated with CK-19 positivity in patients with cHCC-CCA.

Abstract:Combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CC) is a rare type of primary liver cancer. It is a complex "biphenotypic" tumor type consisting of bipotential hepatic progenitor cells that can differentiate into cholangiocytes subtype and hepatocytes subtype. The prognosis of patients with cHCC-CC is quite poor with its specific and more aggressive nature. Furthermore, there are no definite demographic or clinical features of cHCC-CC, thus a clear preoperative identification and accurate non-invasive imaging diagnostic analysis of cHCC-CC are of great value. In this review, we first summarized the epidemiological features, pathological findings, molecular biological information and serological indicators of cHCC-CC disease. Then we reviewed the important applications of non-invasive imaging modalities-particularly ultrasound (US)-in cHCC-CC, covering both diagnostic and prognostic assessment of patients with cHCC-CC. Finally, we presented the shortcomings and potential outlooks for imaging studies in cHCC-CC.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:The objective was to identify the decision-making magnetic resonance (MR) features in differentiating small intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (sIMCC) from atypical small hepatocellular carcinoma (sHCC) (≤3 cm) in patients with cirrhosis and chronic viral hepatitis.METHODS:Signal features and relative contrast of sHCCs and sIMCCs in T2-weighted and dynamic enhanced imaging were analyzed. A subgroup comparison between the cirrhosis and noncirrhosis chronic viral hepatitis group was also made.RESULTS:Univariate analysis revealed that tumor contours (P<.001), signals in T2-weighted (P<.001) and each phase of contrast-enhanced scanning (P<.001), enhancement patterns (P<.001), as well as accompanying findings of tumor capsule (P<.001), hepatic capsule retraction (P<.001), bile duct dilation (P=.031), and transient hepatic intensity difference (P=.002) were different between sIMCC and atypical sHCC. Multivariate analysis indicated that dynamic enhancement patterns (P<.001) and signals in T2-weighted images (P=.024) were independent predictors for differentiation. Confusing MR features were more often observed in the cirrhosis group compared with those in the noncirrhosis chronic viral hepatitis group.CONCLUSION:Dynamic enhancement patterns and signals in T2-weighted images were the most important MR features to differentiate sIMCC from atypical sHCC with cirrhosis and chronic viral hepatitis.

Abstract:Objectives To determine the optimal cutoff value of HCC% for predicting the outcome of patients with combined hepatocellular carcinoma-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CCA) and to investigate how preoperative MR features based on the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS ver. 2018) are related to the HCC% in cHCC-CCA. Methods The study enrolled 107 patients pathologically confirmed to have single cHCC-CCA according to the 2019 WHO classification. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to find the optimal cutoff value of HCC% based on overall survival (OS). The preoperative MR imaging features and clinicopathological findings were retrospectively evaluated and compared between the high HCC% and low HCC% groups. Results In total, 107 patients (mean age, males vs. females: 56.6 ± 10.7 years vs. 54.2 ± 12.8 years) were evaluated. Analysis of the relationship between HCC% and OS by ROC curve suggested that the optimal cutoff value was 65%, by which 51 (47.7%) patients were assigned to the high HCC% group. LI-RADS categorization (OR = 3.657, p = 0.006 vs. OR = 4.075, p = 0.004) and serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) >5 ng/mL (OR = 0.348, p = 0.089 vs. OR = 0.298, p = 0.040) were significant predictors for HCC% in cHCC-CCA in both univariate and multivariate analysis. Abstract:Objectives To determine how MRI features are correlated to biomarkers, and to the prognostic factors for recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) in combined hepatocellular carcinoma-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CCA) patients. Methods The study enrolled 160 cHCC-CCA patients pathologically confirmed according to the 2019 WHO classification. The preoperative MRI features and clinical data were retrospectively evaluated and compared between patients grouped by AFP or CA19-9 level and with pathological findings. The RFS and OS of cHCC-CCA patients were estimated using Kaplan-Meier survival curves and compared using the log-rank test. Moreover, predictors of RFS and OS were investigated using Cox regression analyses. Results One hundred and sixty patients (mean age, males vs. females: 55.7 ± 10.2 years vs. 54.9 ± 14.0 years) were evaluated. The incidence of nodule-in-nodule architecture, mosaic architecture, intratumoral hemorrhage, hepatic capsule retraction, arterial phase peritumoral enhancement, and portal vein thrombus was significantly higher in patients with AFP > 20 ng/ml (all p < 0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that age (HR 1.031, p = 0.03), CA19-9 > 37 U/ml (HR 1.880, p = 0.04), arterial phase peritumoral enhancement (HR 2.287, p = 0.01), and delayed enhancement (HR 0.377, p = 0.02) were independent predictors of poor RFS, while arterial phase peripheral enhancement (HR 2.391, p = 0.04) was an independent predictor of poor OS. Conclusions cHCC-CCA imaging features are complex and not correlated with AFP or CA19-9. Age, CA19-9 > 37 U/ml, arterial phase peritumoral enhancement, and delayed enhancement are independent predictors of poor RFS. Arterial phase peripheral enhancement is an independent predictor of poor OS. Comparison of MRI Findings of Small Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Small Intrahepatic Mass-Forming Cholangiocarcinoma

Abstract:Objective To compare the MR features of small hepatocellular carcinoma (sHCC) and small intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (sIMCC) (≤ 3 cm) and improve the accuracy in diagnosis.Methods Imaging studies of 318 patients with 351 sHCCs and 42 patients with 47 sIMCCs were retrospectively reviewed.Signal intensity on T2WI and on each phase of dynamic enhanced imaging,enhancement patterns,and accompanying findings of the two groups were compared by qualitative and quantitative studies.The qualitative imaging features of tumors were compared by the x2 test and the Fisher exact test,and the statistically significant variables obtained from univariate analysis were used to conduct multivariate stepwise logistic regression analysis.Enhancement pattern between sHCCs with elevated AFP and normal AFP were assessed by thex2 test.Results Multivariate analysis indicated that signal features of enhancement pattern and the accompanying findings of tumor capsule and hepatic capsule retraction were key predictors in differentiating sHCC from sIMCC:Wash-out pattern (276/351) with enhanced tumor capsule (275/351) highly indicated sHCC,while progressive enhancement pattern (27/47) with hepatic capsule retraction (8/47) indicated the diagnosis of sIMCC (P ＜ 0.01).Compared with sHCC with normal AFP,atypical patterns as progressive (n =4) and stable enhancement (n =32) were more commonIy seen in lesions with elevated AFP,dynamic enhancement pattern was different between the two subgroups (x2 =8.241,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Enhancement patterns and the accompanying tumor capsule and hepatic capsule retraction were the most important predictors in differentiating sHCC from sIMCC.In addition,enhancement pattern was relatively more typical in sHCCs with normal AFP which provided valuable information in diagnosis for clinicians.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Our purpose was to assess the clinicopathological features and surgical outcomes of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (HCC-CC) in an Asian center.METHODS:Between 1998 and 2009, 27 patients were diagnosed with combined HCC-CC at our hospital. Their medical records were reviewed and clinicopathological data retrospectively analyzed.RESULTS:The 27 patients included 24 (88.9%) males and 3 (11.1%) females with a mean age of 58.26 ± 11.18 years. Cirrhosis was present in 10 patients (37.0%), and 12 patients had hepatitis C or hepatitis B virus infection. Serum alpha fetoprotein was >20 ng/ml in 7 of the 19 patients in whom it was measured (36.8%). Twenty-five patients underwent hepatic resections and 2 received liver transplantations. Five (18.5%) patients had separate HCC and CC within the same liver (type I), 21 (77.8%) had tumors with mixed components (type II), and 1 patient had a type III tumor (3.7%). Of 22 patients with immunohistochemical data, 19 (86.4%) were cytokeratin (CK) 7-positive, 20 (90.9%) were CK19-positive, and 4 (18.2%) were CK20-positive. Mean follow-up was 25.8 months. The 1- and 2-year survival rates were 72.5 and 49.4%, respectively. The 1- and 2-year disease-free survival rates were 54.2 and 41.3%, respectively. Symptoms at the time of diagnosis, and regional lymph node metastases, were associated with higher mortality and recurrence.CONCLUSIONS:Lymph node metastasis and positive resection margins are important factors affecting HCC-CC surgical outcomes.

Abstract:BackgroundCombined Hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CCAs) are with both unambiguously differentiated hepatocellular and biliary components. cHCC-CCAs show various imaging features similar to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCCs) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICCs), which makes the differential diagnosis between them challenging. The accurate diagnosis of cHCC-CCAs is of great importance in selecting treatment methods and performing patient management.PurposeTo investigate the diagnostic efficacy of CEUS and CT/MRI LI-RADS in association with tumor biomarkers for differentiation of cHCC-CCAs from HCCs.MethodsA total of 54 cHCC-CCAs and 55 HCCs in two centers were retrospectively collected. The diagnostic criteria for cHCC-CCAs if one or more of the following conditions were satisfied: (1) arterial phase hyperenhancement (APHE) on CEUS and LR-M on CT/MRI; (2) LR-5 on both CEUS and CT/MRI with elevated carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9); (3) LR-M on both CEUS and CT/MRI with elevated alphafetoprotein (AFP). The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were calculated.ResultsThe rates of APHE and Rim-APHE on CEUS in cHCC-CCAs were 81.5% and 9.3%, respectively. The rate of early and marked washout on CEUS in cHCC-CCAs were 59.3% and 27.8%, respectively. 64.8% and 25.9% of cHCC-CCAs showed APHE and Rim-APHE on CT/MRI, respectively. 46.3% and 35.2% of cHCC-CCAs showed washout and delay enhancement on CT/MRI, respectively. The kappa value of LI-RADS categories of cHCC-CCAs on CEUS and CT/MRI was 0.319 (P=0.008). The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and AUC of the aforementioned diagnostic criteria for cHCC-CCAs were 64.8%, 84.4%, 76.1% and 0.746, respectively.ConclusionThe combination of the CEUS and CT/MRI LI-RADS with serum tumor markers shows promising diagnostic performance of cHCC-CCAs.
Combined Hepatocellular Cholangiocarcinoma (Biphenotypic) Tumors: Potential Role of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound in Diagnosis

Abstract:Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in differentiating combined hepatocellular cholangiocarcinomas (CHCs) from hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas (ICCs). Materials and methods: Thirty-three patients with pathologically confirmed CHC and matched control subjects with pathologically confirmed HCC (n = 30) or ICC (n = 32) who underwent preoperative CEUS from January 2005 to December 2015 were enrolled in this study. The CEUS images of the hepatic lesions were subjectively analyzed in consensus by two radiologists. The diagnostic performances were evaluated by ROC analysis. Results: In the arterial phase, hyperenhancement was more common in CHCs (76%) and HCCs (100%) than in ICCs (22%), whereas in the late phase marked washout was more common in CHCs (76%) and ICCs (100%) than in HCCs (10%). Using marked washout in the late phase to differentiate CHC from HCC, the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.829, and the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 78%, 90%, and 83%, respectively. Using hyperenhancement in the arterial phase followed by marked washout in the late phase to distinguish CHC from ICC, the AUC value was 0.663, and the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 55%, 78%, and 66%. Conclusion: Although the imaging features of CHC, HCC, and ICC on CEUS may overlap, CEUS could be used in the differential diagnosis of CHC from HCC and ICC.
