Abstract:High-speed laser cladding (HSLC) was used to prepare Fe-based coatings on the surface of 27SiMn steel. The barrel-shaped parts were power-spun at room temperature to improve the surface properties of the coating. SEM, XRD, electron backscatter diffraction, and TEM were used to study the effects of different passes of power spinning technology on the microstructure, wear resistance, and strengthening mechanism. The results show that power spinning can effectively improve the performance of the coating, and the uniformity of coating microstructure and wear resistance were improved after two passes of spinning. As the number of spinning passes increases, the corresponding microstructure evolves from coarse dendrites to equiaxed crystals with an average grain size of 2.3 μm. It was related to the plastic flow generated by the spinning process, which leads to high dislocation density and the development of lamellar subgrains within the initial grains. Grain refinement and high dislocations lead to increased microhardness of the surface layer. Further frictional wear tests showed that the transformation of the wear mechanism after power spinning was beneficial in enhancing the wear resistance of the coating. The new process is provided for the post-treat coatings.
