Abstract:Mass customization (MC) is an important production mode of manufacturing enterprise in the 21st century. Firstly, MC and its extenics model are elucidated. Secondly, application of extenics in the MC implementation is illustrated based on “serialization”, “vari-type structure design” and “vari-technologic design”. Summarily speaking, this paper provides new thoughts and tools for enterprise to find new, efficient implementation method of MC.

Abstract:The rationale of developing product family with respect to mass customization has been well recognized under both industrial and academic aspects. To satisfy the demands of rapid response in e-business, this paper presents a dynamic modeling approach for product family, in which the product family model is divided into two parts-Graded Component Object Model (GCOM) and Skeleton Model (SKM). They are built in different phases of system building and executing, and simplifies the model building as well as enhances the efficient of configuration. After the main framework of dynamic modeling of product family is sketched out, the paper defines some key relationship in GCOM, and two SKM dynamic generating approaches are described respectively.

Abstract:Mass customization (MC) is 21st century-oriented production mode. The problem to be resolved in MC is how to deal with dilemma, i.e. the product must satisfy the individual demands of customer while the cost and delivery time of the customized product are similar to that of the product in mass production. The backgrounds of MC were expounded and MC-oriented integration product-process model was proposed. A kind of mathematical model of MC was established preliminarily.

Abstract:Mass customization requires proper production strategy to balance uniqueness, fashion, and price. Out of its principle to meet consumers' demand quickly, it requires flexible and dynamic strategies to adapt to cases. This research provides a production selection strategy in dynamic environment. We employed a stated preference survey and logit model to give out product configuration strategy and the base for following analysis. Then we adopt a sensitivity analysis based on Monte Carlo to evaluate the performance of product configuration and find out the most beneficial production strategy on the base of a modified logit model. Furthermore, we provide analysis to find out the most stable strategy in a dynamic environment. We choose apparel industry as a case, and the result shows our model can efficiently address the key issues in different types of markets. Furthermore, it helps decide which aspect to enhance the complex market.

Abstract:Mass Customization is an important production mode in 21st century, and one of its core technologies is product modeling. At present, there are some studies about mass customization product modeling, but few of them are referred to bionics. Focused on mass customization product modeling, product reuse strategy is analyzed at first; then the modulization theory and its component description are elucidated. Based on the standard component information description through using article characterization, concept, character and partition rule are discussed.

Abstract:In order to select appropriate modules to be customized in the process of product family development under mass customization,this paper builds a model to analyze customizability of product modules,which is based on Axiomatic Design theory and the two principles of product family development for mass customization,modularity and commonality.In this model,the customization effect of module function to customers,the interrelationships between modules,and the cost of module are analyzed.A customizability index is set up to confirm whether a module is adapted to be a customizable one.Finally,an example illustrates the application of the model.

Abstract:The common management software can not satisfy the enterprise individuation requirement,and the cost of the customized management software is too high or the implementation cycle is too long.Referring to the research results of the mass customization in manufacturing industry,the development pattern of management software mass customization(MSMC) was proposed to help software developers satisfy customer's individuation demand with the benefit of the standard software development.Then the essential idea and the conception of MSMC was introduced.According to the influence degree of customer requirement on software development activities,the patterns of software mass customization were classified into five types.The MSMC-oriented integrated product and process model were presented,and a kind of mathematical optimization model of MSMC was established.The software development cases based on the integrated product and process model show that the pattern can greatly save the time and cost of the management software development and satisfy the enterprise individuation requirement.

Abstract:In order to increase productivity, integrated manufacturing as a kind of strategy has become more and more important. A conceptual model of integrated manufacturing was proposed. Focusing on the numerical control machining of customized product, the integrated manufacturing principle for mass customization was discussed and architecture model of an integrated manufacturing system was presented as well. Firstly, the master model and master NC (numerical control) program of customized product were built. Then these manufacturing resources were unified managed in the PDM (product data management) system. Based on these resources, variant design of customized product could be carried out, at the same time NC machining program of customized product could be generated rapidly. Secondly, NC machining program was input into the NC machining tool through a DNC (distributed numerical control) system, and then remote machining and control would be realized. By adopting this integrated manufacturing system, company can implement mass customization production effectively

Abstract:Mass customization poses one of the primary challenges for manufacturing firms seeking to maintain competitiveness by satisfying diverse and ever-changing demands. The purpose of this study is to present a mechanism illustrating how internal cross-functional integration promotes mass customization by leveraging external supply chain partners and emphasizing the contingent role of product characteristics. Using 223 samples collected from multi-sources of manufacturing firms worldwide, regression and bootstrap analyses are applied to test the proposed moderated mediation research model. Our findings reveal that a firm’s capability of cross-functional integration plays an important role in directly promoting its mass customization performance and indirectly doing so through supply chain alignment. Moreover, our findings underscore that this indirect mechanism is more pronounced when products are designed to be highly modular. Based on our findings, manufacturing firms can enhance mass customization more efficiently and effectively by integrating internal cross-functional collaboration and product modularization, thereby fostering alignment within the external supply chain.

Abstract:Mass customization is one of the leading strategies in satisfying customers and assuring companies survival in today's markets. From the point of view of lifecycle management, it includes knowledge of customer requirement, customer preference, raw material purchasing, customization manufacturing process, product price which reflects satisfaction of both sides of bargain. This paper proposes a knowledge management model in E-commerce mass customization, which is consisted of three parts: the customer information gathering model, the purchasing and manufacturing model and the pricing model. The modeling process and further analysis show that the model efficiently integrates different knowledge in mass customization lifecycle and can serve as a useful platform in E-commerce.

The new theory and method is based on the study of developing principle of innovative design in integrated platform, which focuses on the innovation and reuse properties for configuration product, and integrates key technologies for general demand modeling in quick response to customer's demand, multistage configuration optimization driving by customer's demand and evolutionary deduction of variable product structure based on configuration association. Furthermore, the new method was applied successfully on the modeling for some projects, and results showed the utility, flexibility and robust of the new technology.

Abstract:Mass Customization (MC) is essentially that manufacturers and customers cooperate either to design or to assemble a customized product or service through flexible processes. It is becoming one of the main production models in the 21(st) century. Compared with traditional mass production, mass customization involves in a large amount of information and need a mechanism to manage and control information flow among the collaborative business units. This article, based on mechanical manufacturing, analyzes the information management requirement in mass custornization and presents the design and implementation of an enterprise management information system for mass custornization (MCEMIS). An object-oriented system model is established to support the system integration. A prototype system which consists of three modules is developed to allow customers to interact conveniently with manufacturers and support mass custornization production of manufacturer. It makes enterprise keep a good relationship with customers and escalates the enterprise's product development and management level as well as competition ability.
