Abstract:Free NH-sulfoximines were directly prepared from sulfoxides through iron catalysis by applying a readily available, shelf-stable hydroxylamine triflic acid salt. No additional oxidant is needed, and the substrate scope is broad, including a range of heterocyclic compounds.

Abstract:A mechanochemical synthesis of sulfonimidamides by iron(II)-catalyzed exogenous ligand-free N-acyl nitrene transfer to sulfinamides is reported. The one-step method tolerates a wide range of sulfinamides with various substituents under solvent-free ambient conditions. Compared to its solution-phase counterpart, this mechanochemical approach shows better conversion and chemoselectivity. Mechanistic investigations by ESI-MS revealed the generation of crucial nitrene iron intermediates.

Abstract:N-protected sulfilimines are prepared by imination of sulfides with a combination of 2,2,2-trichloroethyl sulfamate (H(2)NTces), (diacetoxyiodo)benzene (PIDA), and a catalytic amount of iron triflate. The reaction proceeds at room temperature, and after only 3 h a wide range of acyclic and cyclic NTces-sulfilimines with various functional groups and (hetero)aryl substituents can be obtained. By subsequent oxidation followed by deprotection, the products are converted into NH-sulfoximines.

Abstract:The synthesis of NH-sulfoximines from sulfides has been first developed under mild conditions in an aqueous solution with surfactant TPGS-750-M as the catalyst at room temperature. In this newly developed process, a simple and convenient recycling strategy to regenerate the indispensable hypervalent iodine(III) is used. The resulting 1,2,3-trifluoro-5-iodobezene can be recovered almost quantitively from the mixture by liquid-liquid extraction and then oxidized to give the corresponding iodine(III) species. This optimized procedure is compatible with a broad range of functional groups and can be easily performed on a gram scale, providing a green protocol for the synthesis of sulfoximines.

Abstract:A sustainable, cyanide-free synthesis of alkyl nitriles via the aerobic oxidative deconstruction of unstrained cycloalkanones with ammonium salts has been developed. Using inexpensive and stable ammonium salts as the nitrogen source, a variety of alkyl nitriles containing a distal carbonyl group were obtained in good yields under visible-light-promoted iron catalysis. This protocol is characterized by mild conditions, abundant and environmentally benign materials, and high atom and step economy with minimal waste generation. The primary mechanism study revealed that 1O2 is likely to be involved in this reaction.

Abstract:An iron-catalyzed selective N=S coupling of N-methoxy amides and sulfoxides has been developed and was found to be a highly efficient method for the synthesis of N-acyl sulfoximines. Electron-donating as well as electron-withdrawing groups on the phenyl ring are tolerated, and even sensitive substituents are compatible. The current catalytic transformation was conducted under an air atmosphere and can be easily scaled up to a gram scale with a catalyst loading of only 1 mol %. In this case, both coupling partners are used in their native forms, thus obviating prior functionalization and activation.

Abstract:Cyclic sulfonamides (sultams) play a unique role in drug discovery and synthetic chemistry. A direct synthesis of sultams by an intramolecular C(sp(3))-H amidation reaction using an iron complex in situ derived from Fe(ClO4)(2) and aminopyridine ligand is reported. This strategy features a readily available catalyst and tolerates a broad variety of substrates as demonstrated by 22 examples (up to 89% yield). A one-pot iron-catalyzed amidation/oxidation procedure for the synthesis of cyclic N-sulfonyl ketimines is also realized with up to 92% yield (eight examples). The synthetic utility of the method is validated by a gram-scale reaction and derivatization of the products to ring-fused sultams.

Abstract:Herein, we report a general method for the synthesis of NH-sulfoximines and NH-sulfonimidamides through direct electrochemical oxidative catalysis involving an iodoarene(I)/iodoarene(III) redox couple. In addition, dibenzothiazines can be synthesized from [1,1'-biaryl]-2-sulfides under standard conditions. Notably, only a catalytic amount of iodoarene is required for the generation in situ of an active hypervalent iodine catalyst, which avoids the need for an excess of a hypervalent iodine reagent relative to conventional approaches. Moreover, this protocol features broad substrate scope and wide functional group tolerance, delivering the target compounds with good-to-excellent yields even for a scale of more than 10 g.

Abstract:<p>A practical method for the synthesis of <i>N</i>‐(2‐carbonylaryl) benzenesulfonamides via an iron‐catalyzed electrophilic amination of sodium sulfinates with anthranils is described. This redox‐neutral transformation has high atom efficiency and is achieved under simple and mild reaction conditions. A wide range of anthranils and sodium sulfinates were compatible in this transformation. Moreover, the synthetic potential of this methodology was further demonstrated by the synthesis of various useful N‐heterocycles and derivatives.</p>

This protocol involves the use of inexpensive PcFe as the catalyst. Abstract:NH-Sulfonimidamides are prepared by copper-catalyzed coupling of primary sulfinamides with secondary amines. Neither a ligand nor an additive is needed, and air is the terminal oxidant. The reactions occur at room temperature, show good functional group tolerance, and lead to products in good yields. A sulfanenitrile is proposed as an intermediate in this oxidative amination.

Abstract:A simple and efficient method to synthesize N-chloro-N-sulfonylsulfinamides by the direct aminoxidation of arenethiols under aqueous and mild conditions is disclosed, geminally installing the oxo and amino groups on the sulfur atom of arenethiols. The products have been primarily developed as sulfinylation reagents to convert Grignard reagents into sulfoxides, and as amination reagents to convert secondary amines into hydrazine derivatives.
