Abstract:Layered structure Na2Ti3O7 with a suitable sodiation plateau potential (similar to 0.3 V vs Na+/Na) is a promising anode for highly safe sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, the practical use of Na2Ti3O7 is hindered by the unstable interface that forms between the anode and electrolyte leading to issues such as low initial coulombic efficiency (ICE) and cycling instability. Herein, we introduce tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as an electrolyte additive that can spontaneously and effectively react with the main component of the detrimental surface corrosion layer (sodium hydroxide, etc.) to form a protective film on the Na2Ti3O7 anode. The Na2Ti3O7 anode exhibits an enhanced capacity from 134.8 to 167.1 mAh g(-1) at 0.1 A g(-1), along with an increase in capacity retention from 56.1 to 83.9% after 250 cycles at 0.2 A g(-1). This work provides a straightforward protection strategy to address the unstable interface issues, rendering sodium titanate as a promising anode material to achieve practical application in the future.

Abstract:Prussian blue analogs (PBAs) are especially investigated as superior cathodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to high theoretical capacity (approximate to 170 mA h g(-1)) with 2-Na storage and low cost. However, PBAs suffer poor cyclability due to irreversible phase transition in deep charge/discharge states. PBAs also suffer low crystallinity, with considerable [Fe(CN)(6)] vacancies, and coordinated water in crystal frameworks. Presently, a new chelating agent/surfactant coassisted crystallization method is developed to prepare high-quality (HQ) ternary-metal NixCo1-x[Fe(CN)(6)] PBAs. By introducing inactive metal Ni to suppress capacity fading caused by excessive lattice distortion, these PBAs have tunable limits on depth of charge/discharge. HQ-NixCo1-x[Fe(CN)(6)] (x = 0.3) demonstrates the best reversible Na-storage behavior with a specific capacity of approximate to 145 mA h g(-1) and a remarkably improved cycle performance, with approximate to 90% capacity retention over 600 cycles at 5 C. Furthermore, a dual-insertion full cell on the cathode and NaTi2(PO4)(3) anode delivers reversible capacity of approximate to 110 mA h g(-1) at a current rate of 1.0 C without capacity fading over 300 cycles, showing promise as a high-performance SIB for large-scale energy-storage systems. The ultrastable cyclability achieved in the lab and explained herein is far beyond that of any previously reported PBA-based full cells.

Conformal Conversion of Polyphosphazene@Sb2MoO6 Nanowires to N/S-Doped/Carbon-Coated SbPO4/MoOx for High-performance Lithium Storage

Abstract:Alloy-type antimony (Sb) and conversion-type molybdenum (Mo) anodes have attracted extensive attention in the application of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) owing to their high theoretical capacity. In this study, Sb2MoO6 nanowires are prepared via a hydrothermal method and assessed their thermal behavior upon heat treatment, observing an intriguing transformation from nanowire to Sb2O3/MoOx nanosheets. To enhance structure stability, the Sb2MoO6 nanowires are successfully coated with a polyphosphazene layer (referred to as PZS@Sb2MoO6), which not only preserved the nanowires form but also yielded N/S co-doped carbon-coated SbPO4/MoOx (NS-C@SbPO4/MoOx) nanowires following annealing in an inert environment. This composite benefits from the stable PO4 3- anion that serve as a buffer against volume expansion and form a Li3PO4 matrix during cycling, both of which substantially bolster ion transport and cycle endurance. Doping with heteroatoms introduces numerous oxygen vacancies, augmenting the number of electrochemically active sites, and carbon integration considerably enhances the electronic conductivity of the electrode and alleviates the volume-change-induced electrode pulverization. Employed as anode materials in LIBs, the NS-C@SbPO4/MoOx electrode exhibits remarkable cycling performance (449.8 mA h g-1 at 1000 mA g-1 over 700 cycles) along with superior rate capability (394.2 mA h g-1 at 2000 mA g-1).
Remarkable Anodic Performance of Lead Titanate 1D Nanostructures Via In-Situ Irreversible Formation of Abundant Ti 3+ As Conduction Pathways

Abstract:PX-phase PbTiO 3 (PT) nanowires with open channels running along the length direction have been investigated as an anode material for lithium ion batteries. This material shows a stabilized reversible specific capacity of about 410 mAh·g –1 up to 200 cycles with a charge/discharge voltage plateau of around 0.3–0.65 V. In addition, it exhibits superior high-rate performance, with 90% and 77% capacity retention observed at 1 and 2 A·g –1 , respectively. At a very high current rate of 10 A·g –1 , a specific capacity of over 170 mAh·g –1 is retained up to 100 cycles, significantly outperforming the rate capability reported for Pb and Pb oxides. The results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses along with the cyclic voltammogram results reveal that the PX-phase PT nanowires undergo irreversible structural amorphization and reduction reactions during the initial cycle, which allow them to transform into a composite structure composed of 2–5 nm Pb nanoparticles uniformly dispersed in the 1D amorphous Li 2 O·TiO 2 ·LiTiO 2 matrix. In this composite structure, the presence of abundant amounts of Ti 3+ in both the charged and discharged states enhances the electrical conductance of the system, whereas the presence of ultrafine Pb nanoparticles imparts high reversible capacity. The structurally stable TiO 2 -based amorphous matrix can also considerably buffer the volume variation during the charge/discharge process, thereby facilitating extremely stable cycling performance. This compound combines the high specific capacity of Pb-based materials and the good rate capability of Ti 3+ -based wiring. Our results might furnish a possible route for achieving superior cycling and rate performance and contribute towards the search for next-generation anode materials.
CNT-enhanced Electrochemical Property and Sodium Storage Mechanism of Pb(NO3)2 As Anode Material for Na-ion Batteries

Abstract:By using carbon nanotube (CNT), Pb(NO3)(2)/CNT is fabricated by a solution method and investigated for the first time as probable anode materials for sodium-ion batteries. For comparison, pristine Pb(NO3)(2) and Pb(NO3) (2)/carbon black (CB) are also prepared by the same solution method. Electrochemical results show that Pb(NO3)(2)/CNT can deliver an initial charge capacity of 285.7 mA h g(-1), which is much higher than the pristine Pb(NO3)(2) (203.8 mA h g(-1)) and Pb(NO3)(2)/CB (252.1 mA h g(-1)). After 50 cycles, Pb(NO3) 2/ CNT still maintains a sodium storage capacity of 112.9 mA h g(-1). Furthermore, it also shows outstanding rate property compared with other two samples. All the enhanced results can be attributed to the introduction of crosslinked CNTs in the composite, which provide good electronic conductive pathways interconnecting Pb(NO3)(2) particles and maintain the whole nano-micro structure upon repeated cycles. The reaction mechanism of Pb(NO3)(2) with Na is studied by various in-situ and ex-situ techniques. It can be found that Pb(NO3)(2)/CNT irreversibly decomposes into Pb, NaNO3, NaN3, and Na2O, and then the resulting metal Pb will further react with Na to form NaxPb alloys during the initial discharge process. In contrast, the charge process is mainly associated with the de-alloying reaction of NaxPb to the formation of Pb. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
PPy-derived Carbon Nanoparticles Anchored on TiO2/C Nanofibers As Sodium-Ion Battery Anodes with Ultra-Long Cycle Stability

Abstract:As the anode material of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), TiO2 exhibits low sodium storage potential and small structural changes in the sodium storage process. To improve the pseudocapacitive behavior of TiO2, PPy was used as an N-containing carbon source to modify TiO2/C (TC) porous nanofibers. PPy-derived carbon (PC) nanoparticles anchored on TC nanofibers (PCTC) by a simple chemical oxidation method. The PC nanoparticles significantly improved the electrical conductivity of PCTC nanofibers with oxygen vacancies (OVs), while substantially improving the structural stability. As a result, PCTC exhibits a high reversible speci-fic capacity (179.8 mAh/g at 1.0 A/g) and a very long cycle life (206.4 mAh/g after 1000 cycles at 1.0 A/g) when used as anodes of SIBs. The superior sodium storage performance of PCTC nanofibres is attributed to the special structure with N-doping and OVs, resulting in high pseudo-capacitance contribution (95 %, 2.0 mV s-1). This OVs-creating approach can improve the pseudocapacitance of oxide anodes for sodium storage.
PPy‐encapsulated SnS2 Nanosheets Stabilized by Defects on a TiO2 Support As a Durable Anode Material for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

Abstract:Nanostructured-alloy-type anodes have received great interest for high-performance lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, these anodes experience huge volume fluctuations during repeated lithiation/delithiation and are easily pulverized and subsequently form aggregates. Herein, an efficient method to stabilize alloy-type anodes by creating defects on the surface of the metal oxide support is proposed. As a demonstration, PPy-encapsulated SnS2 nanosheets supported on defect-rich TiO2 nanotubes were produced and investigated as an anode material for LIBs. Both experimental results and theoretical calculations demonstrate that defect-rich TiO2 provides more chemical adhesions to SnS2 and discharge products, compared to defect-poor TiO2, and then effectively stabilizes the electrode structure. As a result, the composite exhibits an unprecedented cycle stability. This work paves the way to designing durable and active nanostructured-alloy-type anodes on oxide supports.
A Safe Organic/Inorganic Composite Anode for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

Abstract:Na4PTC possesses a suitable redox potential and exhibits minimal polarization even at high rate, making it a safe anode material. However, its poor electrical conductivity limits its further application. By introducing Bi with a similar redox potential to prepare composite materials, the need for conductive carbon is greatly reduced and the specific capacity of the composite electrodes is also increased. Meanwhile, ultrahigh electrode loading is achieved. Sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs), based on hard carbon anodes and Na+‐intercalation compound cathodes, have gained significant attention. Nonetheless, hard carbon anodes involve the storage of Na+ at a low potential, typically below 0.1 V (vs Na/Na+), which increases the risk of dendritic Na growth on the anode surface during overcharging. Herein, a safe organic/inorganic composite anode containing tetrasodium 3,4,9,10‐perylenetetracarboxylate (Na4PTC) and Metallic bismuth (Bi) with a weight ratio of 7:2, which exhibits an average potential of 0.7 V (vs Na+/Na) and a capacity of 150 mAh g−1 is proposed. The electrode reaction involves a reversible coordination reaction within the organic host and alloying reactions within the metallic Bi component. Importantly, the organic component efficiently buffers the volume changes in Bi during the alloying reaction, while the metallic Bi enhances the electronic conductivity of the organic material. As a result, this composite anode shows high cycle stability and rate performance, even under high mass loadings ranging from 10 to 50 mg cm−2. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that the Na‐ion full cell, consisting of the composite anode and the Na3V2O2(PO4)2F cathode, exhibits minimal capacity degradation over 100 cycles while maintaining a high areal capacity of 1.1 mA cm−2.

A Water-Soluble NaCMC/NaPAA Binder for Exceptional Improvement of Sodium-Ion Batteries with an SnO2 -Ordered Mesoporous Carbon Anode

Abstract:SnO2 @CMK-8 composite, a highly promising anode for Na-ion batteries (NIBs), was incorporated with polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF), sodium carboxymethylcellulose (NaCMC), sodium polyacrylate (NaPAA), and NaCMC/NaPAA mixed binders to optimize the electrode sodiation/desodiation properties. Synergistic effects between NaCMC and NaPAA led to the formation of an effective protective film on the electrode. This coating layer not only increased the charge-discharge Coulombic efficiency, suppressing the accumulation of solid-electrolyte interphases, but also kept the SnO2 nanoparticles in the CMK-8 matrix, preventing the agglomeration and removal of oxide upon cycling. The adhesion strength and stability towards the electrolyte of the binders were evaluated. In addition, the charge-transfer resistance and apparent Na+ diffusion of the SnO2 @CMK-8 electrodes with various binders were examined and post-mortem analyses were conducted. With NaCMC/NaPAA binder, exceptional electrode capacities of 850 and 425 mAh g-1 were obtained at charge-discharge rates of 20 and 2000 mA g-1 , respectively. After 300 cycles, 90 % capacity retention was achieved. The thermal reactivity of the sodiated electrodes was studied by using differential scanning calorimetry. The binder effects on NIB safety, in terms of thermal runaway, are discussed.
Continuous Conductive Networks Built by Prussian Blue Cubes and Mesoporous Carbon Lead to Enhanced Sodium-Ion Storage Performances

Abstract:The challenges of improving electrical conductivities and enhanced rapid dynamics are active research areas in the modification of Prussian blue (PB) and Prussian blue analogues (PBAs), which are used as excellent cathodes of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Herein, the terephthalic acid etched stepwise hollow bulky PB cubes and the intimate contact mesoporous carbon (CMK-3) particles with the adhered minisize PB cubes can together build continuous conductive networks. The composite (donated as ) has high electrical conductivity, low resistance, and ultrahigh specific surface, which can lead to high capacitive contribution ratios. The electrode can deliver a discharge capacity of 120 mAh g–1 and maintain retention of 85.0% after cycling for 200 cycles at a current density of 100 mA g–1. Even cycling at 1 A g–1, the reversible capacity can be measured to 102 mAh g–1 and exhibit stability over a long cycle. In situ Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns were further measured to illustrate the phase transition of crystal structure along with the extraction/insertion processes of Na+ ions. Abstract:Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) derived materials are widely concerned due to their diversity, porous structures, multiple active sites of metal-organic frameworks, as well as the facile synthesis process. In this work, the Cu–PBAs grow in-situ on Titanium (Ti) net, and then the Cu3P and Fe2P materials (Cu–Fe–P/TiN) is prepared with subsequent phosphorization, which can be used as binder-free and conductive agent-free anode for sodium-ion batteries. And the Cu–Fe–P is closely linked with Ti net to form a conductive network by regular rod-like particles, which contributes to the excellent electrochemical performance. The Cu–Fe–P/TiN can deliver a high reversible capacity of more than 180 mAh g−1 at 50 mA g−1, and achieve a capacity retention rate of 70% after 100 cycles. At areal current density of 1 mA cm−2, the reversible capacity of the Cu–Fe–P/TiN electrode is 1.6 mAh cm−2. The reversible transformation and sodium storage mechanism are further revealed by in-situ characterizations.

Boosting the Rate Capability of Multichannel Porous TiO2 Nanofibers with Well-Dispersed Cu Nanodots and Cu2+-doping Derived Oxygen Vacancies for Sodium-Ion Batteries

Abstract:The use of TiO2 as an anode in rechargeable sodium-ion batteries (NIBs) is hampered by intrinsic low electronic conductivity of TiO2 and inferior electrode kinetics. Here, a high-performance TiO2 electrode for NIBs is presented by designing a multichannel porous TiO2 nanofibers with well-dispersed Cu nanodots and Cu2+-doping derived oxygen vacancies (Cu-MPTO). The in-situ grown well-dispersed copper nanodots of about 3 nm on TiO2 surface could significantly enhance electronic conductivity of the TiO2 fibers. The one-dimensional multichannel porous structure could facilitate the electrolyte to soak in, leading to short transport path of Na+ through carbon toward the TiO2 nanoparticle. The Cu2+-doping induced oxygen vacancies could decrease the bandgap of TiO2, resulting in easy electron trapping. With this strategy, the Cu-MPTO electrodes render an outstanding rate performance for NIBs (120 mAh·g−1 at 20 C) and a superior cycling stability for ultralong cycle life (120 mAh·g−1 at 20 C and 96.5% retention over 2,000 cycles). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations also suggest that Cu2+ doping can enhance the conductivity and electron transfer of TiO2 and lower the sodiation energy barrier. This strategy is confirmed to be a general process and could be extended to improve the performance of other materials with low electronic conductivity applied in energy storage systems.
Confining Ultrafine Tin Monophosphide in Ti3C2Tx Interlayers for Rapid and Stable Sodium Ion Storage

Abstract:Phase separation in conversion/alloying-based anodes easily causes crystal disintegration and leads to bad cycling performance. Tin monophosphide (SnP) is an excellent anode material for sodium ion battery due to its unique three-dimensional crystallographic layered structure. In this work, we report the in situ growth of ultrafine SnP nanocrystals within Ti3C2Tx MXene interlayers. The MXene framework is used as a conductive matrix to provide high ionic/electrical transfer paths and reduce the Na+ diffusion barrier in the electrode. In situ and ex situ measurements reveal that the synergy between small SnP crystal domains and the confinement provided by the MXene host prevents mechanical disintegration and major phase separation during the sodiation and desodiation cycles. The resultant electrode exhibits fast Na+ storage kinetics and excellent cycling stability for over 1000 cycles. A full cell assembled with this new SnP-based anode and a Na3V2(PO4)3 cathode delivers a high energy density of 265.4 Wh kg-1 and a power density of 3252.4 W kg-1, outperforming most sodium-ion batteries reported to date.

Abstract:Although Sn 4 P 3 exhibits potential as a material employed as the anode the practical use in SIBs is impeded by issues such as significant volume changes, poor cycling stability, and rapid capacity degradation. To tackle these obstacles, we employed a one-step solvothermal approach to disperse copper-doped Sn 4 P 3 nanoparticles within a porous carbon (PC) network. The resulting SnCuP/PC composites serve as a promising electrode material for use in sodium ion storage. The porous carbon structure enhances the rate at which Na + ions interact with the electrode, thereby reducing expansion of volume during charging and discharging processes. Additionally, copper doping enhances the conductivity of Sn 4 P 3 and promotes Na + ion migration. As a result, SnCuP/PC-2, as the material utilized in sodium ion battery anodes, exhibits reversible capacities at 443.8 mA h g −1 , 365.4 mA h g −1 , and 268.9 mA h g −1 at current intensities of 0.2 A g −1 , 1.0 A g −1 , and 2.0 A g −1 , respectively. These impressive charge storage capacities may be credited to the porous configuration and elevated surface area per unit mass and abundance of electrochemically reactive sites within the composites. These features reduce electrical resistance at the interface of facilitate charge transfer and enhance ion diffusion. Furthermore, the presence of a carbon skeleton ensures consistent porous structure maintenance throughout charge and discharge cycles, thereby the performance under different charging rates and long-term stability over multiple cycles are also improved.

Abstract:Bismuth (Bi) is a promising material as the anode for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) and potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) due to its characteristics such as reasonable price and high theoretical volumetric capacity (3800 mAh cm −3 ). Nevertheless, considerable drawbacks have hindered the practical applications of Bi, including its relatively low electrical conductivity and inevitable volumetric change during the alloying/dealloying processes. To solve these problems, we proposed a novel design: Bi nanoparticles were synthesized via a single-step low-pressure vapor-phase reaction and embedded onto the surfaces of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). After being vaporized at 650°C and 10 -5 Pa, Bi nanoparticles less than 10 nm were uniformly distributed in the three-dimensional (3D) MWCNT networks to form a Bi/MWNTs composite. In this unique design, the nanostructured Bi can reduce the risk of structural rupture during cycling, and the structure of the MWCMT network is beneficial in shortening the electron/ion transport path. In addition, MWCNTs can improve the overall conductivity of the Bi/MWCNTs composite and prevent particle aggregation, thus improving the cycling stability and rate performance. As an anode material for SIB, the Bi/MWCNTs composite has demonstrated excellent fast charging performance with a reversible capacity of 254 mAh/g at 20 A/g. A capacity of 221 mAh g −1 after cycling at 10 A/g for 8000 cycles has also been achieved for SIB. As an anode material for PIB, the Bi/MWCNTs composite has delivered excellent rate performances with a reversible capacity of 251 mAh/g at 20 A/g. A specific capacity of 270 mAh g −1 after cycling at 1 A g −1 for 5000 cycles has also been achieved for PIB.

Abstract:P2-Na0.67Mn0.67Ni0.33O2 is a promising cathode material for sodium ion batteries (SIBs) due to its low cost, high theoretical capacity, and non-toxicity. However, it still suffers from unsatisfactory cycling stability mainly incurred by the Jahn-Teller effect of Mn3+ and electrolyte decomposition on the electrode/electrolyte interface. Herein, the P2-Na0.67Ni0.33Mn0.67O2@PPy (NNMO@PPy) composite applied as cathode materials for SIBs is obtained by introducing conductive polypyrrole (PPy) as coating layer on the P2-Na0.67Ni0.33Mn0.67O2 (NNMO) microspheres. Numerous physical characterization methods indicate that the PPy layer was uniformly coated on the surface of NNMO microspheres without change in phase structure and morphology. The PPy coating layer can alleviate Mn dissolution and effectively suppress the side reactions between the electrolyte and electrode during cycling. The optimal NNMO@PPy-9 with 9 wt% PPy delivers a high capacity of 127.4 mAh/g at the current density at 150 mA g-1, an excellent cyclic stability with high capacity retention of 80.5 % after 300 cycles, and enhanced rate performance (169.3 mAh/g at 15 mA g-1 while 89.8 mAh/g at 600 mA g-1). Furthermore, hard carbon (-)//NNMO@PPy-9 (+) full cell delivers a high energy density of 305.1 Wh kg-1 and superior cycling stability with 88.2 % capacity retention after 150 cycles. In-situ X-ray diffraction experiment and electrochemical characterization verify the highly reversible structure evolution and robust P2-type phase structure of NNMO@PPy-9 for fast and stable Na+ diffusion. This effective strategy of using conductive PPy as a coating layer may provide a new insight to modify NNMO surface, improving the cycling stability and rate capability.

Abstract:Antimony has attracted a substantial amount of attention and has been proven to be the most promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to its suitable sodium insertion plateaus and high theoretical storage capacity. However, the dramatic volume expansion (up to 390%) during sodiation/desodiation results in severe structural deterioration and rapid capacity decay. As a consequence, antimony anodes exhibit poor cycling stability. Herein, we report a binder-free Sb/NiSb alloy prepared by a controllable electrodeposition process. The inactive nickel provided both good conductivity and structural reinforcement to reduce the large volume expansion/contraction, which endowed the Sb/NiSb anode with excellent cycle stability (521 mAh∙g−1 upon 100 cycles) and rate performance (above 400 mAh∙g−1 at 2000 mA g−1) that were superior to those of the bare Sb anode. The excellent Na storage performance of the Sb/NiSb anode was attributed to the synergistic effect of its cauliflower-like structure and the alloying effect of the Sb/NiSb. The operando XRD results indicated that the reaction mechanism resembled that of analogous transition metal antimonides. In addition, a stable solid electrolyte interface (SEI) was observed with operando XRD and HR-TEM of the Sb/NiSb anode. The cost-effective preparation of Sb/NiSb composite anodes and their excellent electrochemical properties offer the potential to prepare a broad spectrum of binder-free metallic alloys (e.g., Bi and Sn) as high-performance anode materials for SIBs.

Abstract:Sodium ion batteries (NIBs) have been considered as an alternative for Li ion batteries (LIBs). NaTi2(PO4)3 (denoted as NTP) is a superior anode material for NIBs. However, the poor electrochemical performance of NTP resulting from the low electronic conductivity prevents its application. Here, NTP nanoparticles embedded in carbon network (denoted as NTP/C) were fabricated using a simple soft-template method. This anode material exhibits superior electrochemical performance when used as anode electrodes for NIBs, including highly reversible capacity (108 mAh g(-1) at 100 C) for excellent rate performance and long cycle life (83 mAh g(-1) at 50 C after 6000 cycles). The excellent sodium storage property can be resulted from the synergistic effects of nanosized NTP, thinner carbon shell and the interconnected carbon network, leading to the low charge transfer resistance, the large surface area for electrolyte to soak in and enough void to buffer the volume variation during the repeated cycle.
Na+-Conductive Na2Ti3O7-Modified P2-type Na2/3Ni1/3Mn2/3O2 Via a Smart in Situ Coating Approach: Suppressing Na+/Vacancy Ordering and P2-O2 Phase Transition

Abstract:Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have shown great superiority for grid-scale storage applications because of their low cost and the abundance of sodium. P2-type Na2/3Ni1/3Mn2/3O2 cathode materials have attracted much attention for their high capacities and operating voltages as well as their simple synthesis processes. However, Na+/Vvacancy ordering and the P2-O2 phase transition are unavoidable during Na+ insertion/extraction, leading to undesired voltage plateaus and deficient battery performances. We show that this defect can be effectually eliminated by coating a moderate Na+ conductor Na2Ti3O7 with a smart in situ coating approach and a concomitant doping of Ti4+ into the bulk structure. Based on the combined analysis of ex situ X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, electrochemical performance tests, and electrochemical kinetic analyses, Na2Ti3O7 coating and Ti4+ doping effectively refrain Na+/vacancy ordering and P2-O2 phase transition during cycling. Additionally, the Na2Ti3O7 coating layer suppresses particle exfoliation and accelerates Na+ diffusion at the cathode and electrolyte interface. Hence, Na2Ti3O7-coated Na2/3Ni1/3Mn2/3O2 exhibits excellent cycling stability (almost no capacity decay after 200 cycles at 5 C) and outstanding rate capability (31.1% of the initial capacity at a high rate of 5 C compared to only 10.4% for the pristine electrode). This coating strategy can provide a new guide for the design of prominent cathode materials for SIBs that are suitable for practical applications.
