Abstract:The influence of two thermoresponsive polymers, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and poly(N-vinylcaprolactam) (PVCL), on the phase transition behavior of a thermoresponsive ionic liquid, tributylhexylphosphonium 3-sulfopropylmethacrylate ([P4,4,4,6][MC3S]), was investigated. An obvious distinction was observed in the LCSTs and morphologies of [P4,4,4,6][MC3S]-PNIPAM and [P4,4,4,6][MC3S]-PVCL aqueous solutions, indicating their large differences in dynamic transition processes. In general, PNIPAM can "break" the water structure of [P4,4,4,6][MC3S] to decrease the transition temperature, while PVCL can "make" the water structure to increase it. Surprisingly, [P4,4,4,6][MC3S] has an unusual over-hydration behavior before dehydration while PNIPAM experiences a two-step transition process in [P4,4,4,6][MC3S]-PNIPAM aqueous solution, which has never been reported so far. Further studies revealed that the formation of strong intra-/inter-molecular hydrogen bonds C[double bond, length as m-dash]OD-N in PNIPAM is the driving force for the LCST phenomenon of [P4,4,4,6][MC3S]-PNIPAM solution, while it is the [P4,4,4,6][MC3S] that dominates the phase separation of [P4,4,4,6][MC3S]-PVCL solution.
Thermodynamic Understanding the Phase Behavior of Fully Quaternized Poly(ethylene Oxide)-B-poly(4-vinylpyridine) Block Copolymers

Abstract:In this study, the poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs)-based block copolymers (BCPs) with a high charge density, poly (ethylene oxide)-b-quaternized poly(4-vinylpyridinium) with X- as counterion (PEO-b-QP4VP-X), were prepared by full quaternization of the poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) block in neutral PEO-b-P4VP BCP. The complete quaternization of P4VP block was confirmed by NMR and FT-IR. The phase separation behavior of PEO-b-QP4VP-X BCPs was examined, which was found to be strongly dependent on the counterion species. Specifically, as compared with the neutral PEO-b-P4VP, PEO-b-QP4VP-Br exhibits a stronger segregation strength, while the other three PEO-b-QP4VP-X (X = PF6, TFO and TFSI) BCPs show a weaker phase separation ability. The phase behavior of PEO-b-QP4VP-X was explained using the thermodynamic mechanism originally applied for salt doped BCPs of low charge density. The variation of the Flory-Huggins parameter (delta chi ) can be divided into three terms: delta(chi 1) due to the change in monomer identity after quaternization, delta chi Born from the Born energy of counterions and chi(gamma) arising from the local charge cohesion. For PEO-b-QP4VP-X BCPs, both delta(chi 1) and delta chi Born are negative, but chi(gamma) is positive, and they vary with counterion size in different ways. The competition of these three terms dominates the change tendency of phase behavior, among which & UDelta;chi 1 plays an important role at high level of charge density. The rationality of the aforementioned thermodynamic mechanism of delta chi was also verified by the phase behavior of salt-doped PEO-b-QP4VP-X.

Abstract:A new LCST-type thermoresponsive polyelectrolyte P[P4,4,4,4][SS], poly(tetrabutyl phosphonium styrene sulfonate), was introduced to PMEO2MA (poly(2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethyl methacrylate)) via RAFT polymerization, in order to explore the transition behavior of the block copolymer PMEO2MA-b-P[P4,4,4,4][SS] with two distinct LCST-type segments. A relatively sharp LCST-type phase transition with only one transition point is observed in the turbidity curves, while the whole phase transition is completely different from the micro perspective. The phase transition temperature range is relatively broad, according to the unsynchronized changes of different protons of the two blocks in the temperature-variable 1H NMR analysis. From PCMW analysis, it is found that there exists an obvious two-step phase transition behavior, especially in the region of the C-H groups. Accordingly, we divided the whole transition process into two subregions: 20-40 °C and 40-55 °C in 2Dcos analysis. At the first stage of 20-40 °C, the CH3 groups mainly belonging to the backbones of PMEO2MA blocks have the earliest response to the heating and drive the first step of the dehydration process of PMEO2MA-b-P[P4,4,4,4][SS], resulting in the formation of an intermediate micelle state composed of the collapsed PMEO2MA core and hydrophilic P[P4,4,4,4][SS] corona. In particular, the conformational changes and the more compact structures due to the interaction between the C[double bond, length as m-dash]O groups and P[P4,4,4,4][SS] segments (ν(C[double bond, length as m-dash]OD2O-PILs)) were observed using IR analysis. With the continual increase of the temperature, when the second temperature range of 40-55 °C is reached, the P[P4,4,4,4][SS] segments start to collapse and expel the water molecules, driven by the anions of the poly(ionic liquid)s, with the phosphonium cations being distributed over the relatively hydrophilic outside.

Abstract:Understanding of phase transition mechanism of thermoresponsive polymers is the basis for the rational design of smart materials with predictable properties. Linear ABC triblock terpolymer poly(di(ethylene glycol)ethyl ether acrylate)-b-poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide)-b-poly(N-vinylcaprolactam) (PDEGA-b-PDMA-b-PVCL) was synthesized by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The doubly thermal phase transition of PDEGA-b-PDMA-b-PVCL in aqueous solution was investigated by a combination of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), turbidimetry, and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The terpolymer self-assembles into micelles with PDEGA being the core-forming block during the first lower critical solution temperature (LCST) transition corresponding to PDEGA, which is followed by a second LCST transition corresponding to PVCL, resulting in the formation of micellar aggregates. The PDMA middle segment plays an important role as an isolation zone to prevent cooperative dehydration of the PDEGA and PVCL segments, and therefore, two independent LCST transitions corresponding to PDEGA and PVCL were observed. Furthermore, FT-IR with perturbation correlation moving window (PCMW) and two-dimensional spectroscopy (2DCOS) was applied to elucidate the two-step phase transition mechanism of this terpolymer. It was observed that the CH, ester carbonyl, and ether groups of PDEGA change prior to the CH and amide carbonyl groups of PVCL, further supporting that the two phase transitions corresponding to PDEGA and PVCL indeed occur without mutual interferences.

Abstract:Lower disorder-to-order transition (LDOT) phase behavior is seldom observed in block copolymers (BCPs). Design of LDOT BCPs is important for broadening the applications and improving the high temperature properties of BCPs. In this work, the LDOT phase behavior was first achieved in the strongly interacting BCPs consisting of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(ionic liquid) (PIL) blocks (EOm-b-(IL-x)(n), X: counterion) by introducing two extra strong forces (hydrogen bondingand Coulombic interaction) with different temperature dependences. It is also found that the LDOT phase behavior of the EOm-b-(IL-x)(n) BCPs can be regulated by molecular weight (related to mixing entropy), counterion, and salt doping. Increasing counterion size and salt content shifts the disorder-to-order transition temperature (T-DOT) to higher temperature, whereas a higher molecular weight leads to a lower T-DOT. Based on our findings, some general rules for design of LDOT phase behavior in the strongly interacting BCPs were proposed. Moreover, the conductivity of the EOm-b-(IL-X)(n) BCPs was correlated with the LDOT phase behavior. A remarkable increase in conductivity after LDOT, i.e., a thermo-activated transition, is observed for the EOm-b-(IL-X)(n), BCPs, which can be attributed to the cooperative effects of temperature rising and LDOT.

Abstract:Poly{2,5‐bis[(4‐butoxyphenyl)‐oxycarbonyl]styrene} (PBPCS) with a re‐entrant phase behavior is used to synthesize a new kind of ABC triblock copolymers (triBCPs), poly(dimethylsiloxane)‐b‐polystyrene‐b‐PBPCS (PDMS‐b‐PS‐b‐PBPCS, DSB). Two well‐defined triBCPs D120S100B50 and D120S100B120 with different molecular weights (MWs) and narrow MW distributions are synthesized by sequential atom transfer radical polymerization. The volume fractions of PDMS, PS, and PBPCS in D120S100B50 are 0.24, 0.26, and 0.50, respectively, while the values in D120S100B120 are 0.14, 0.16, and 0.70, respectively. At low temperatures, PBPCS is amorphous. Both samples form a core–shell hexagonally packed cylindrical (CSH) morphology. At high temperatures, PBPCS in the triBCPs can form a liquid crystalline (LC) phase, the transformation of which can induce an order−order transition (OOT) of D120S100B120. The nanostructure changes from a CSH structure to a three‐phase‐four‐layer lamellar structure, and the transition is thermoreversible. The sequence of the OOT is opposite to that of a coil−coil−coil triBCP. The unusual LC behavior of PBPCS plays an important role on the thermoreversible morphological transition of the triBCP. image
Microphase Separation of Poly(propylene Monothiocarbonate)-B-poly (ethylene Oxide) Block Copolymers Induced by Differential Interactions with Salt

Abstract:This work describes the microphase separation behavior of poly(propylene monothiocarbonate)-b-poly(ethylene oxide) (PPMTC-b-PEO) block copolymers (BCPs), a type of new sulfur-containing block copolymer, induced by lithium bis-(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI). PPMTC-b-PEO BCPs with a fixed PEO block length but different PPMTC block lengths were synthesized and doped by LiTFSI. Temperature-variable small-angle X-ray scattering result indicates that microphase separation of the PPMTC-b-PEO BCPs can be induced by differential interactions with LiTFSI. However, the ability of LiTFSI to induce microphase separation in PPMTC-b-PEO BCPs does not monotonically increase with the doping ratio (r = [Li+]/([EO] + [PMTC])). It is observed that stronger microphase separation usually occurs at r = 1/12 and 1/6, but microphase separation is weaker at r = 1/24 and 1/3. In most cases, microphase-separated but disordered structures are obtained. Particularly, ordered lamellar structure is formed at suitable doping ratio and block composition. FTIR result confirms the differential complexation of LiTFSI with PEO and PPMTC. LiTFSI preferentially interacts with PEO at low rs, but also strongly interacts with PPMTC at high rs. This work provides a new method to prepare solid polymer electrolytes with double conductive nano-phases, which may be beneficial to both conducting and mechanical properties.
In-depth Study of the Phase Separation Behaviour of a Thermoresponsive Ionic Liquid and a Poly(ionic Liquid) in Concentrated Aqueous Solution.

Abstract:The temperature-induced phase transition behaviors of a thermoresponsive ionic liquid (tributylhexylphosphonium 3-sulfopropylmethacrylate, [P4,4,4,6][MC3S]) and its polymer (poly-tributylhexylphosphonium 3-sulfopropylmethacrylate, P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S]) have been investigated using DSC, optical microscopy, temperature-variable (1)H NMR, and FT-IR in combination with two-dimensional analysis methods, including perturbation correlation moving window (PCMW) and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2Dcos). We found that there exists a distribution gradient of water molecules in P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S] ranging from hydrophobic backbones to hydrophilic sulfonates. Linked together by covalent bonds, P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S] would form an "urchin-like" structure, which can improve its stability and strengthen the gradient distribution of water. Finally, 2Dcos was employed to elucidate the sequential order of chemical group motions during heating. It is concluded that both [P4,4,4,6][MC3S] and P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S] experience the anionic dominated phase transition process. Moreover, the driving force for the phase transitions is shown to be the dehydration of hydrophobic ester carbonyls.

Abstract:Two acrylate monomers with six-member cyclic ortho ester groups, i.e., 2-(1,3-dioxan-2-yloxy)ethyl acrylate (DEA) and 2-(5,5-dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-2-yloxy) ethyl acrylate (DMDEA), were synthesized. These two monomers were copolymerized with an oligo(ethylene glycol) acrylate (OEGA) under atom transfer radical polymerization conditions to afford two series of thermoresponsive copolymers, poly(DEA-co-OEGA)s and poly(DMDEA-co-OEGA)s. All the copolymers were soluble in water to form transparent solutions at low temperature, however, some of them exhibited association behaviors below the cloud point (CP) as evidenced by (HNMR)-H-1, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and fluorescence method. The aggregation tendency of the copolymers depends on their composition as well as the structure of the ortho ester units. With a similar composition, poly(DMDEA-co-OEGA) showed a stronger aggregation tendency than poly(DEA-co-OEGA). In addition, increasing molar content of the ortho ester units in a copolymer promoted its aggregation in water. Thermally induced phase transitions of these copolymers were studied by various methods including turbidimetry, temperature-dependent (HNMR)-H-1, DLS, and microscopy. The results indicate that CP of the copolymers increased with increasing the content of OEGA units, but the changing behaviors of CP were rather different for two types of copolymers, which can be ascribed to the difference in hydrophobicity of the ortho ester units. Little hysteresis was observed for the copolymers with more OEGA units while those with more alto ester units showed significant hysteresis probably due to the hydrophobic character of the ortho ester. The formation of coacervate droplets above CP reveals that the copolymers underwent a liquid liquid phase separation upon heating. pH-dependent hydrolyses of the copolymers were studied by turbidimetry and H-1 NMR methods. The hydrolysis rate depends greatly on pH and the hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance of the copolymers: lower pH and more hydrophilic character resulted in a faster hydrolysis rate. Finally, this type of acid-labile thermoresponsive copolymers and the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis products have low cytotoxicity.
Dynamic Phase Transition Behavior and Unusual Hydration Process in Poly(Ethylene Oxide)-B-Poly(N-Vinylcaprolactam) Aqueous Solution

Abstract:Dynamic phase transition and self-assembly mechanism of thermosensitive poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(N-vinylcaprolactam) (PEO-b-PVCL) copolymer are explored deeply. A gradual dehydration process with predominated hydrophobic interactions among copolymer chains in the phase transition process distinguishes the copolymer from homopolymer. PVCL in the inner zone is restricted and counter-balanced by the PEO segments based on the sequence order of representative groups during the heating-cooling cycles. Remarkably, PEO shell experiences unusual hydration process, which is first discovered. This hydrophilic shell plays as water absorption sponge layer and captures expelled water from PVCL core, accompanied by gradient distribution of water existed in the assembly structures. Peculiarly, pseudo-linear changes of the integral area of free CO are presented compared with inflection point in the hydrated CO integral area, which propose that a part of hydrated CO forms incomplete dehydrated states. Abstract:The Keggin polyoxometalates (POM) H3PW12O40 (PW) electrostatically complexed with poly(styrene-block-2-vinyl pyridine) (PS-b-P2VP) in DMF, and ordered microphase separation occurred through solvent evaporation. The phase behaviors of PS-b-P2VP/PW in bulk were systematically investigated by using SAXS and TEM to discover the effect of POM content and molecular weight of the block copolymers. Computational simulation was also performed to reveal the same phase transition sequence as the experimental results. As the POM content increases, the PS-b-P2VP/PW complex with a low molecular weight changed from lamellar phase (LAM) to hexagonal cylindrical phase (HEX), and finally transited into spherical phase (SPH). Unexpectedly, PS-b-P2VP/PW complexes with a high molecular weight were inclined to form a kinetic-trapped intermediate phase (inverted HEX). The mechanism of formation of inverted phases was proposed based on simulation that asymmetric swelling in the concentrated DMF solution would result in the ultimate kinetic-trapped nanostructure in the bulk.

Abstract:Using a molecular theory for dilute PEO-b-PNIPAm solutions, we first take the formation of hydrogen bonds between copolymer monomers and water molecules into account, which enables us to study the impact of temperature on PEO-b-PNIPAm self-assembly effectively by quantitatively describing the different changes in water affinities of two blocks. With the increase of temperature, hydrogen bonds between PNIPAm and water break down dramatically, resulting in the hydrophobic character of PNIPAm while PEO remains hydrophilic. Amphiphilic copolymers in the aqueous surrounding can aggregate into various structures: micelles and vesicles. According to the equilibrium criterion of the excess grand potential under the conditions of the grand canonical ensemble, we find that both structures are stable and can coexist. Theoretically calculated potentials of mean force of aggregates further verify the coexistence of micelles and vesicles, although the low critical solution temperatures of different aggregates are different under these conditions. A phase diagram as functions of temperature and the weight fraction of PEO (fPEO) is obtained, which shows different regions of micelles, vesicles and their coexistence. It implies the appearance of two types of micelle-vesicle transition: spontaneous and temperature-induced. Since PEO-b-PNIPAm as a thermoresponsive material has a broad range of applications, a systematic investigation of the phase behavior is very useful not only for the scientific interest but also for the practical applications.
Synthesis and Phase Transition Behaviors of Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Polypeptides with Different Side Chains

Abstract:Two thermotropic liquid crystalline polypeptides with different side chains,PDLG and AzoPDLG,were synthesized.Both of them have rigid-rod main chain,but PDLG has long alkyl side chains and AzoPDLG has side chains containing mesogenic azobenzene moieties and long spacers.The properties of these compounds were investigated by 1H NMR,DSC and POM.The thermotropic phase transition behaviors caused by the side chains with different chemical structures were also discussed.The results showed that PDLG could only form cholesteric phase before heat decomposition and that AzoPDLG formed smectic phase in the lower temperature region while occurred clearing point in the higher temperature region.

Abstract:The phase transition behavior of a thermotropic liquid crystalline poly(aryl ether ketone) synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reactions of 4,4'-biphenol (BP), and chlorohydroquinone (CH) with 1,4-bis(4-fluorobenzoyl)benzene (BF) has been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). The copolymer exhibits multiple first order phase transitions, which are associated with crystal-to-smectic liquid crystal transition and smectic liquid crystal-to-isotropic transition. When the cooling rate is low (<10<degrees>C/min), only stable crystal from I is formed. With the cooling rate being high (>20 degreesC/min), the metastable crystal form II is formed, which always coexists with form I. The liquid crystalline phase plays an important role in the formation of metastable phase form II.

Abstract:A unique phenomenon of multiple soluble-insoluble phase transitions was found in the two-phase copolymerization of acrylamide (AM) and a weakly charged comonomer, N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA), in the aqueous solution of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). As the DMAEMA molar fraction increased from 0 to 0.30, the insoluble-soluble (I-S) phase transition first appeared and then disappeared. Varying the PEG concentration, the salt concentration, or the pH of reaction mixture, the phase transitions were tuned dependently. The volume fractions and refractive indices of continuous and disperse phases, as well as the viscosity change in the phase transitions were investigated, and the results showed that phase reentrance had occurred in the I-S phase transition. The transitional conversion for the first S-I phase transition increased with the DMAEMA molar fraction, indicating the solubility enhancement of charged polyelectrolytes. The content of DMAEMA in the resulting copolymer first increased and then decreased as the polymerization progressed. Accordingly, the droplet size increased in the two S-I phase transitions and decreased in the I-S phase transition. And it was proved that the copolymers were molecularly solubilized after the I-S phase transition. The multiple soluble-insoluble phase transitions were ascribed to the synergistic effect of polymer concentration, solubility enhancement of charged copolymers, and the salting-out effect of ionic comonomers. A generalized mechanism for the multiple soluble-insoluble phase transitions was proposed, which showed that the effects of polymer concentration were dominant in the two S-I phase transitions, while the effects of solubility enhancement played a key role in the I-S phase transition.
Unusual thermal phase transition behavior of an ionic liquid and poly(ionic liquid) in water with significantly different LCST and dynamic mechanism

Abstract:Dynamic thermal phase transition behavior of a well-defined thermoresponsive ionic liquid (IL) [P-4,P-4,P-4,P-4][SS], and its polymer, poly(ionic liquid) (PIL), P[P-4,P-4,P-4,P-4][SS], synthesized by modified free radical polymerization was investigated by means of DSC, turbidity, temperature-variable H-1 NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy measurements, in combination with perturbation correlation moving window (PCMW) and two-dimensional correlation (2Dcos) analysis. Obvious distinction was observed between the LCST of monomer and polymer solutions indicating their largely different dynamic transition process. Further studies revealed that the aggregation of [P-4,P-4,P-4,P-4][SS] is mainly driven by the synergetic variations of cations and anions while the separation process of the P[P-4,P-4,P-4,P-4][SS] solution is found to be dominated by conformation changes of anions. Finally, 2Dcos was employed to elucidate the sequence order of chemical group motion during heating. It is concluded that synergetic variations of cations and anions in the [P-4,P-4,P-4,P-4][SS] solution resulted in the randomly aggregated structure of globules during separation. In contrast, in the P[P-4,P-4,P-4,P-4][SS] solution, anions of repeated units tend to be wrapped into the aggregated globules while cations would distribute at the periphery of globules after transition. Additionally, several unusual phenomena were also interpreted, such as the different varying tendency in LCST of monomer and polymer solutions with increasing concentration, their distinction in the final transmittance and their rather different LCST at the same concentration.
Thermoreversible Order–Order Transition of a Diblock Copolymer Induced by the Unusual Coil–Rod Conformational Change of One Block

Abstract:Unusual liquid crystalline (LC) behavior and interesting nanophase separation behavior in the self-assemblies of a series of diblock copolymers (BCPs), poly( dim ethylsiloxane)-b-poly{2,S-bis [(4-butoxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl] styrene} (PDMS-b-PBPCS), were observed. The synthesized PDMS-b-PBPCS BCPs with PBPCS blocks of different molecular weights had volume fractions of PBPCS (f(PDPCS)'s) from 77% to 90%. At the molecular scale, the BCPs with f(PBPCS) values of 77% and 83% were in amorphous isotropic state in the entire temperature range studied, and thus, they were in coil-coil BCPs. For the BCPs with f(PBPCS) values of 87% and 90%, the PBPCS blocks displayed a thermodynamically stable isotropic phase at lower temperatures and an LC phase at higher temperatures. Therefore, they exhibited a transition from the coil coil to rod coil BCPs with increasing temperatures. At the nanophase structure scale, all of the BCPs were coil coil type and self-assembled into body-centered cubic (BCC) structures in the low temperature range. Moreover, some of the nanophase-separated structures of these BCPs could be thermoreversibly transformed by changing temperatures. For the BCPs with f(PBPCS) values between 77% and 83%, they remained BCC nanophase-separated structures during heating (up to 260 degrees C) as well as during subsequent cooling. For the BCPs with f(PBPCS) values of 87% and 90%, when the temperature was higher than the isotropic-to-LC transition temperatures of the PBPCS blocks, the new nanophase-separated hexagonally packed cylinder (HEX) structures started to form. However, only the nanophase-separated structure of the BCP with an f(PBPCS), value of 90% could completely transform to the HEX structure when the temperature reached 250 degrees C. As the temperature was reduced, the nanophase-separated structures of these two samples gradually reverted to the BCC structures below the LC-to-isotropic transition temperatures of the PBPCS blocks.

Abstract:Well-defined poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)/poly(tributylhexylphosphonium 3-sulfopropylmethacrylate) (PNIPAM/P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S]) interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) microgels were synthesized by two-step precipitation polymerization, and the thermally induced phase transition mechanism of IPN microgels was investigated using dynamic light scattering (DLS), temperature-dependent IR spectroscopy together with the perturbation correlation moving window (PCMW) technique and two dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2Dcos). For comparison, PNIPAM/P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S] polymer mixture was also studied to reveal the influence of the complex spatial network of IPN on the thermoresponsive behavior. Due to the strong hydrophilic feature of P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S] and the special IPN structure, PNIPAM and P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S] moieties exhibited different phase transition tendencies during heating. In detail, the dehydration behavior of the PNIPAM part seemed gradual and continuous, whereas that of ester C[double bond, length as m-dash]O in the P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S] part became sharp. The two components dehydrated independently and successively in the polymer mixture without any mutual interaction. The collapse of the P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S] network at the second transition stage increased the amount of intramolecular hydrogen bonding (amide C[double bond, length as m-dash]OD-N) in the PNIPAM moiety. Additionally, the electrostatic interaction in the P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S] network played a non-ignorable role in enhancing the swelling property of PNIPAM/P[P4,4,4,6][MC3S] IPN microgels.
