Abstract:Recent facial image synthesis methods have been mainly based on conditional generative models. Sketch-based conditions can effectively describe the geometry of faces, including the contours of facial components, hair structures, as well as salient edges (e.g., wrinkles) on face surfaces but lack effective control of appearance, which is influenced by color, material, lighting condition, etc. To have more control of generated results, one possible approach is to apply existing disentangling works to disentangle face images into geometry and appearance representations. However, existing disentangling methods are not optimized for human face editing, and cannot achieve fine control of facial details such as wrinkles. To address this issue, we propose DeepFaceEditing, a structured disentanglement framework specifically designed for face images to support face generation and editing with disentangled control of geometry and appearance. We adopt a local-to-global approach to incorporate the face domain knowledge: local component images are decomposed into geometry and appearance representations, which are fused consistently using a global fusion module to improve generation quality. We exploit sketches to assist in extracting a better geometry representation, which also supports intuitive geometry editing via sketching. The resulting method can either extract the geometry and appearance representations from face images, or directly extract the geometry representation from face sketches. Such representations allow users to easily edit and synthesize face images, with decoupled control of their geometry and appearance. Both qualitative and quantitative evaluations show the superior detail and appearance control abilities of our method compared to state-of-the-art methods.

Specifically, we first design an optimization approach to represent sketch editing manipulations by editing vectors, which are propagated to the whole video sequence using a proper strategy to cope with different editing needs. Specifically, input editing operations are classified into two categories: temporally consistent editing and temporally variant editing. The former (e.g., change of face shape) is applied to the whole video sequence directly, while the latter (e.g., change of facial expression or dynamics) is propagated with the guidance of expression or only affects adjacent frames in a given time window. Since users often perform different editing operations in multiple frames, we further present a region-aware fusion approach to fuse diverse editing effects. Our method supports video editing on facial structure and expression movement by sketch, which cannot be achieved by previous works. Both qualitative and quantitative evaluations show the superior editing ability of our system to existing and alternative solutions.

InterFace:Adjustable Angular Margin Inter-class Loss for Deep Face Recognition

Abstract: In the field of face recognition, it is always a hot research topic to improve the loss solution to make the face features extracted by the network have greater discriminative power. Research works in recent years has improved the discriminative power of the face model by normalizing softmax to the cosine space step by step and then adding a fixed penalty margin to reduce the intra-class distance to increase the inter-class distance. Although a great deal of previous work has been done to optimize the boundary penalty to improve the discriminative power of the model, adding a fixed margin penalty to the depth feature and the corresponding weight is not consistent with the pattern of data in the real scenario. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a novel loss function, InterFace, releasing the constraint of adding a margin penalty only between the depth feature and the corresponding weight to push the separability of classes by adding corresponding margin penalties between the depth features and all weights. To illustrate the advantages of InterFace over a fixed penalty margin, we explained geometrically and comparisons on a set of mainstream benchmarks. From a wider perspective, our InterFace has advanced the state-of-the-art face recognition performance on five out of thirteen mainstream benchmarks. Abstract:Face attribute editing is an important research area in computer vision, which refers to the modification of single or multiple attributes of human faces, such as age, expression, makeup, hairstyle, etc. The application of face attribute editing is popular in social networks because of its diversity, and it has important application value in a huge market. This paper briefly expounds the face attribute editing technology, and reviews the existing face attribute editing methods. We try to collect some methods of face attribute editing based on deep learning and classify them into DFI-based, 3DMM-based, GAN-based, and hybrid-based editing methods, summarize the previously proposed datasets and loss functions commonly used in the network. Finally, we summarize the current situation and future development trend of face attribute editing.

Abstract:The beautification of human photos usually requires professional editing softwares, which are difficult for most users. In this technical demonstration, we propose a deep face beautification framework, which is able to automatically modify the geometrical structure of a face so as to boost the attractiveness. A learning based approach is adopted to capture the underlying relations between the facial shape and the attractiveness via training the Deep Beauty Predictor (DBP). Relying on the pre-trained DBP, we construct the BeAuty SHaper (BASH) to infer the "flows" of landmarks towards the maximal aesthetic level. BASH modifies the facial landmarks with the direct guidance of the beauty score estimated by DBP.

Abstract:Deep generative models allow the synthesis of realistic human faces from freehand sketches or semantic maps. However, although they are flexible, sketches and semantic maps provide too much freedom for manipulation, and thus, are not easy for novice users to control. In this study, we present DeepFaceReshaping, a novel landmark-based deep generative framework for interactive face reshaping. To edit the shape of a face realistically by manipulating a small number of face landmarks, we employ neural shape deformation to reshape individual face components. Furthermore, we propose a novel Transformer-based partial refinement network to synthesize the reshaped face components conditioned on the edited landmarks, and fuse the components to generate the entire face using a local-to-global approach. In this manner, we limit possible reshaping effects within a feasible component-based face space. Thus, our interface is intuitive even for novice users, as confirmed by a user study. Our experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms traditional warping-based approaches and recent deep generative techniques.

Abstract:We present a novel system for sketch-based face image editing, enabling users to edit images intuitively by sketching a few strokes on a region of interest. Our interface features tools to express a desired image manipulation by providing both geometry and color constraints as user-drawn strokes. As an alternative to the direct user input, our proposed system naturally supports a copy-paste mode, which allows users to edit a given image region by using parts of another exemplar image without the need of hand-drawn sketching at all. The proposed interface runs in real-time and facilitates an interactive and iterative workflow to quickly express the intended edits. Our system is based on a novel sketch domain and a convolutional neural network trained end-to-end to automatically learn to render image regions corresponding to the input strokes. To achieve high quality and semantically consistent results we train our neural network on two simultaneous tasks, namely image completion and image translation. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to combine these two tasks in a unified framework for interactive image editing. Our results show that the proposed sketch domain, network architecture, and training procedure generalize well to real user input and enable high quality synthesis results without additional post-processing.
MaTe3D: Mask-guided Text-based 3D-aware Portrait Editing

Abstract:3D-aware portrait editing has a wide range of applications in multiple fields. However, current approaches are limited due that they can only perform mask-guided or text-based editing. Even by fusing the two procedures into a model, the editing quality and stability cannot be ensured. To address this limitation, we propose \textbf{MaTe3D}: mask-guided text-based 3D-aware portrait editing. In this framework, first, we introduce a new SDF-based 3D generator which learns local and global representations with proposed SDF and density consistency losses. This enhances masked-based editing in local areas; second, we present a novel distillation strategy: Conditional Distillation on Geometry and Texture (CDGT). Compared to exiting distillation strategies, it mitigates visual ambiguity and avoids mismatch between texture and geometry, thereby producing stable texture and convincing geometry while editing. Additionally, we create the CatMask-HQ dataset, a large-scale high-resolution cat face annotation for exploration of model generalization and expansion. We perform expensive experiments on both the FFHQ and CatMask-HQ datasets to demonstrate the editing quality and stability of the proposed method. Our method faithfully generates a 3D-aware edited face image based on a modified mask and a text prompt. Our code and models will be publicly released.

ChatFace: Chat-Guided Real Face Editing via Diffusion Latent Space Manipulation

Abstract: Editing real facial images is a crucial task in computer vision with significant demand in various real-world applications. While GAN-based methods have showed potential in manipulating images especially when combined with CLIP, these methods are limited in their ability to reconstruct real images due to challenging GAN inversion capability. Despite the successful image reconstruction achieved by diffusion-based methods, there are still challenges in effectively manipulating fine-gained facial attributes with textual instructions.To address these issues and facilitate convenient manipulation of real facial images, we propose a novel approach that conduct text-driven image editing in the semantic latent space of diffusion model. By aligning the temporal feature of the diffusion model with the semantic condition at generative process, we introduce a stable manipulation strategy, which perform precise zero-shot manipulation effectively. Furthermore, we develop an interactive system named ChatFace, which combines the zero-shot reasoning ability of large language models to perform efficient manipulations in diffusion semantic latent space. This system enables users to perform complex multi-attribute manipulations through dialogue, opening up new possibilities for interactive image editing. Extensive experiments confirmed that our approach outperforms previous methods and enables precise editing of real facial images, making it a promising candidate for real-world applications. DisControlFace: Adding Disentangled Control to Diffusion Autoencoder for One-shot Explicit Facial Image Editing

Abstract:In this work, we focus on exploring explicit fine-grained control of generative facial image editing, all while generating faithful facial appearances and consistent semantic details, which however, is quite challenging and has not been extensively explored, especially under an one-shot scenario. We identify the key challenge as the exploration of disentangled conditional control between high-level semantics and explicit parameters (e.g., 3DMM) in the generation process, and accordingly propose a novel diffusion-based editing framework, named DisControlFace. Specifically, we leverage a Diffusion Autoencoder (Diff-AE) as the semantic reconstruction backbone. To enable explicit face editing, we construct an Exp-FaceNet that is compatible with Diff-AE to generate spatial-wise explicit control conditions based on estimated 3DMM parameters. Different from current diffusion-based editing methods that train the whole conditional generative model from scratch, we freeze the pre-trained weights of the Diff-AE to maintain its semantically deterministic conditioning capability and accordingly propose a random semantic masking (RSM) strategy to effectively achieve an independent training of Exp-FaceNet. This setting endows the model with disentangled face control meanwhile reducing semantic information shift in editing. Our model can be trained using 2D in-the-wild portrait images without requiring 3D or video data and perform robust editing on any new facial image through a simple one-shot fine-tuning. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that DisControlFace can generate realistic facial images with better editing accuracy and identity preservation over state-of-the-art methods. DeepFaceDrawing: Deep Generation of Face Images from Sketches

Abstract:Recent deep image-to-image translation techniques allow fast generation of face images from freehand sketches. However, existing solutions tend to overfit to sketches, thus requiring professional sketches or even edge maps as input. To address this issue, our key idea is to implicitly model the shape space of plausible face images and synthesize a face image in this space to approximate an input sketch. We take a local-to-global approach. We first learn feature embeddings of key face components, and push corresponding parts of input sketches towards underlying component manifolds defined by the feature vectors of face component samples. We also propose another deep neural network to learn the mapping from the embedded component features to realistic images with multi-channel feature maps as intermediate results to improve the information flow. Our method essentially uses input sketches as soft constraints and is thus able to produce high-quality face images even from rough and/or incomplete sketches. Our tool is easy to use even for non-artists, while still supporting fine-grained control of shape details. Both qualitative and quantitative evaluations show the superior generation ability of our system to existing and alternative solutions. The usability and expressiveness of our system are confirmed by a user study.
3D-Aware Face Editing Via Warping-Guided Latent Direction Learning

Abstract:3D facial editing, a longstanding task in computer vision with broad applications, is expected to fast and intuitively manipulate any face from arbitrary viewpoints following the user's will. Existing works have limitations in terms of intuitiveness, generalization, and efficiency. To overcome these challenges, we propose FaceEdit3D, which allows users to directly manipulate 3D points to edit a 3D face, achieving natural and rapid face editing. After one or several points are manipulated by users, we propose the tri-plane warping to directly deform the view-independent 3D representation. To address the problem of distortion caused by tri-plane warping, we train a warp-aware encoder to project the warped face onto a standardized latent space. In this space, we further propose directional latent editing to mitigate the identity bias caused by the encoder and realize the disentangled editing of various attributes. Extensive experiments show that our method achieves superior results with rich facial details and nice identity preservation. Deep Shapely Portraits

Abstract:We present deep shapely portraits, a novel method based on deep learning, to automatically reshape an input portrait to be better proportioned and more shapely while keeping personal facial characteristics. Different from existing methods that may suffer from irrational face artifacts when dealing with portraits with large pose variations or reshaping adjustments, we utilize dense 3D face information and constraints instead of sparse facial landmarks based on 3D morphable models, resulting in better reshaped faces lying in rational face space. To this end, we first estimate the best shapely degree for the input portrait using a convolutional neural network (CNN) trained on our newly developed ShapeFaceNet dataset. Then the best shapely degree is used as the control parameter to reshape the 3D face reconstructed from the input portrait image. After that, we render the reshaped 3D face back to 2D and generate a seamless portrait image using a fast image warping optimization. Our work can deal with pose and expression free (PE-Free) portrait images and generate plausible shapely faces without noticeable artifacts, which cannot be achieved by prior work. We validate the effectiveness, efficiency, and robustness of the proposed method by extensive experiments and user studies.
Deep Face Video Inpainting via UV Mapping

Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of face video inpainting. Existing video inpainting methods target primarily at natural scenes with repetitive patterns. They do not make use of any prior knowledge of the face to help retrieve correspondences for the corrupted face. They therefore only achieve sub-optimal results, particularly for faces under large pose and expression variations where face components appear very differently across frames. In this paper, we propose a two-stage deep learning method for face video inpainting. We employ 3DMM as our 3D face prior to transform a face between the image space and the UV (texture) space. In Stage I, we perform face inpainting in the UV space. This helps to largely remove the influence of face poses and expressions and makes the learning task much easier with well aligned face features. We introduce a frame-wise attention module to fully exploit correspondences in neighboring frames to assist the inpainting task. In Stage II, we transform the inpainted face regions back to the image space and perform face video refinement that inpaints any background regions not covered in Stage I and also refines the inpainted face regions. Extensive experiments have been carried out which show our method can significantly outperform methods based merely on 2D information, especially for faces under large pose and expression variations. Abstract:This paper proposes a novel and physically interpretable method for face editing based on arbitrary text prompts. Different from previous GAN-inversion-based face editing methods that manipulate the latent space of GANs, or diffusion-based methods that model image manipulation as a reverse diffusion process, we regard the face editing process as imposing vector flow fields on face images, representing the offset of spatial coordinates and color for each image pixel. Under the above-proposed paradigm, we represent the vector flow field in two ways: 1) explicitly represent the flow vectors with rasterized tensors, and 2) implicitly parameterize the flow vectors as continuous, smooth, and resolution-agnostic neural fields, by leveraging the recent advances of implicit neural representations. The flow vectors are iteratively optimized under the guidance of the pre-trained Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining~(CLIP) model by maximizing the correlation between the edited image and the text prompt. We also propose a learning-based one-shot face editing framework, which is fast and adaptable to any text prompt input. Our method can also be flexibly extended to real-time video face editing. Compared with state-of-the-art text-driven face editing methods, our method can generate physically interpretable face editing results with high identity consistency and image quality. A Visual Representation for Editing Face Images

Abstract:We propose a new approach for editing face images, which enables numerous exciting applications including face relighting, makeup transfer and face detail editing. Our face edits are based on a visual representation, which includes geometry, face segmentation, albedo, illumination and detail map. To recover our visual representation, we start by estimating geometry using a morphable face model, then decompose the face image to recover the albedo, and then shade the geometry with the albedo and illumination. The residual between our shaded geometry and the input image produces our detail map, which carries high frequency information that is either insufficiently or incorrectly captured by our shading process. By manipulating the detail map, we can edit face images with reality and identity preserved. Our representation allows various applications. First, it allows a user to directly manipulate various illumination. Second, it allows non-parametric makeup transfer with input face's distinctive identity features preserved. Third, it allows non-parametric modifications to the face appearance by transferring details. For face relighting and detail editing, we evaluate via a user study and our method outperforms other methods. For makeup transfer, we evaluate via an online attractiveness evaluation system, and can reliably make people look younger and more attractive. We also show extensive qualitative comparisons to existing methods, and have significant improvements over previous techniques.

Abstract:Deepfake defense not only requires the research of detection but also requires the efforts of generation methods. However, current deepfake methods suffer the effects of obscure workflow and poor performance. To solve this problem, we present DeepFaceLab, the current dominant deepfake framework for face-swapping. It provides the necessary tools as well as an easy-to-use way to conduct high-quality face-swapping. It also offers a flexible and loose coupling structure for people who need to strengthen their pipeline with other features without writing complicated boilerplate code. We detail the principles that drive the implementation of DeepFaceLab and introduce its pipeline, through which every aspect of the pipeline can be modified painlessly by users to achieve their customization purpose. It is noteworthy that DeepFaceLab could achieve cinema-quality results with high fidelity. Abstract:In recent years,the face analysis based on deep learning has made great progress,and has become one of the most active research areas in the field of computer vision.In order to further promote the study of deep learning and face analysis,this paper over-views recent advances on the deep-learning-based face analysis techniques in the literature.First,a brief overview of deep learning and its history are given and reasons for the effectiveness of deep learning are also analyzed.Then,according to different obj ectives,four face analysis tasks,i.e.,face detection,facial key-point detection,face recognition,face attribute recognition,are introduced and dis-cussed in detail,and the key problems existing in these tasks at present are analyzed.After that,the commonly used face databases in the face analysis are described.At last,main challenges of face analysis based deep learning are shown and the conclusion is presented.
