Abstract:In this paper, an ultrahigh sensitive hydrazine electrochemical sensor based on gold nanoparticles integrated into a reduced graphene oxide/nickel foam (AuNPs-rGO@NF) hybrid structure was synthesized using a facile coating and electrochemical deposition method. The morphology and elemental composition of the as-synthesized AuNPs-rGO@NF structure was comprehensively investigated. Both cyclic voltammetry and potential amperometry results show the optimum AuNPs-rGO@NF sensor exhibits excellent electrochemical performances including higher sensitivity (14.635 μA μM−1 cm−2), lower limit of detection (0.056 μM; S/N = 3), wider linear detection range (0.2–200 μM), good selectivity and long-term stability. Meanwhile, the results of real sample analysis indicate the AuNPs-rGO@NF sensor has great potential for practical electrochemical hydrazine sensing applications.

Abstract:ZnS nanodots highly dispersed on the surfaces of graphene sheets were successfully synthesized via an easy hydrothermal method by using Na2S as reducing agent as well as sulfide source. The reduction of graphite oxide (GO) to graphene was accompanied by the deposition of ZnS particles on the surface of graphene sheets. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) demonstrate the efficient reduction of GO to graphene sheets. The morphology characterization of the sample shows a wrinkled paper-like structure of the graphene sheets decorated with ZnS nanoparticles. Moreover, photoluminescence (PL) measurement shows a smooth spectrum, indicating fewer defects in the composite.

Abstract:A novel chemical solution approach has been developed to synthesize ZnO based sulfide coaxial nanocables such as ZnO/ZnS and ZnO/CdS by chemical reaction in tetrahydrofuran (THF; C4H8O), in which sulfur, NaBH4 and ZnCl2 or CdCl2 were used as reactants and ZnO nanorods were used as the template at room temperature. The morphology and structure of ZnO/ZnS and ZnO/ CdS coaxial nanocables have been characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), x-ray powder diffraction (XRD), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. Furthermore, the as-prepared ZnO/ CdS coaxial nanocables have been applied as NH3 gas sensors at room temperature with superior sensitivity, good reproducibility and a short response/recovery time. Finally, a first explanation for the improved performance of the ZnO/CdS coaxial nanocable based gas sensors has been presented.

Abstract:In this study, hydrogen (H2) and methane (CH4) were used as reactive gases, and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) was used to grow single-layer graphene on a copper foil substrate. The single-layer graphene obtained was transferred to a single-crystal silicon substrate by PMMA transfer technology for the subsequent growth of nano zinc oxide. The characteristics of CVD-deposited graphene were analyzed by a Raman spectrometer, an optical microscope, a four-point probe, and an ultraviolet/visible spectrometer. The sol–gel method was applied to prepare the zinc oxide seed layer film with the spin-coating method, with methanol, zinc acetate, and sodium hydroxide as the precursors for growing ZnO nanostructures. On top of the ZnO seed layer, a one-dimensional zinc oxide nanostructure was grown by a hydrothermal method at 95 °C, using a zinc nitrate and hexamethylenetetramine mixture solution. The characteristics of the nano zinc oxide were analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM),x-ray diffractometer(XRD), and Raman spectrometer. The obtained graphene/zinc oxide nano-heterostructure sensor has a sensitivity of 1.06 at a sensing temperature of 205 °C and a concentration of hydrogen as low as 5 ppm, with excellent sensing repeatability. The main reason for this is that the zinc oxide nanostructure has a large specific surface area, and many oxygen vacancy defects exist on its surface. In addition, the P–N heterojunction formed between the n-type zinc oxide and the p-type graphene also contributes to hydrogen sensing.

Abstract:Graphene anchored with nanocrystal ZnO was synthesized by a facile in situ one-pot hydrothermal route. The nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectra (RS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The electrochemical properties of the nanocomposite were investigated by galvanostatic cycling and cyclic voltammetry (CV). It was found that ZnO particles with a size of around 30-40 nm are homogeneously anchored on graphene due to the interaction between the precursors. A layered structure has formed by the alternating stacking of graphene sheets and ZnO nanoparticles. The electrochemical tests showed that the ZnO/graphene nanocomposite yields an initial charge capacity of 420 mAh g(-1), and that the nanocomposite exhibits an obviously improved cycling stability compared to bare ZnO because of the buffering, confining and conducting effects of the incorporated graphene. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to understand the effect of graphene on the electrochemical properties of nanocrystal ZnO.

Abstract:The exploration of graphene-based electrochemical sensors has aroused intensive interest in application research. Here, we report the decoration of a reduced graphene oxide hydrogel film with Cu2O through a facile electrodeposition method and show that the as-prepared Cu2O/graphene hydrogel film can be directly utilized as an electrochemical H2O2 sensor. The morphology and structure of the hydrogel composite are characterized, and the optimal electrodeposition time is determined. The graphene/Cu2O hydrogel film acting as a H2O2 sensor exhibits high electrochemical sensing properties in terms of response, detection limit and selectivity. The present study could expand the potential of graphene hydrogel materials in the fields of sensors and biosensors.

Abstract:We report on a novel, efficient, and one-step approach to prepare single-layer reduced graphene oxide (RGO) suspensions and films using hydroxylamine hydrochloride. The effective chemical reduction of GO was evidenced by a significant increase in the C/O ratio and five orders of magnitude decrease in the GO resistance. Field-effect transistor gas sensors were fabricated using as-produced RGO sheets and the resulting sensor exhibited a fast response and a high sensitivity to low-concentration target gases at room temperature.

Abstract:A hierarchical near-spherical ZnO (ns-ZnO)/Nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (N-rGO) nanocomposite was synthesized via a facile hydro/solvo-thermal route. Then, a non-enzymatic nitrite electrochemical sensor (ns-ZnO/N-rGO/GCE) was obtained by modifying glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with the prepared nanocomposite. More adsorption sites and electro-catalytic active sites were provided at the electrode interface thanks to the formation of hierarchical structure, making the fabricated GCE possess a remarkable amperometric sensing property for nitrite. The limit of detection (LOD) was as low as 0.08 μM, and the detection range was as broad as 0.037 μM–5.9 mM. Furthermore, this sensor showed satisfactory recovery for nitrite in genuine samples including ham sausage, pickle and tap water, suggesting the potential practical application performance of ns-ZnO/N-rGO/GCE in the fields of food analysis and environmental monitoring.

Abstract:In the present study, the hydrothermal method has been used for the synthesis of a manganese dioxide/nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide ( α -MnO 2 /N-rGO) composite. The physical–chemical properties of the synthesized α -MnO 2 /N-rGO were examined by different techniques such as powder X-ray diffractometer (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The synthesized α -MnO 2 /N-rGO was further used as the catalyst towards the fabrication of a hydrazine (Hz) sensor. The screen-printed carbon (SPC) electrode was modified with α -MnO 2 /N-rGO via the drop-cast method. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) was used for the determination of Hz, and observations showed that the α -MnO 2 /N-rGO/SPC electrode has decent performance in terms of sensitivity, detection limit, and selectivity. The detection limit of 0.08 μM and sensitivity of 2.47 μA/μM.cm 2 were obtained using this modified electrode.

Abstract:In this paper, we have synthesized the cupric oxide functionalized carbon nanotube-reduced graphene oxide (CuO/CNTs-rGO) nanocomposites by a facile one-pot method. The obtained samples were characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) techniques. To investigate the electrochemical properties, the as-fabricated sensors were tested toward hydrazine detection by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and amperometry methods. The measured results demonstrate that the CuO/CNTs-rGO nanocomposites sensor shows a sensitivity of 4.28 μA·μM−1·cm−2, a linear range of 1.2–430 μM, and detection limit of 0.2 μM toward hydrazine. The enhanced electrocatalytic activity can be attributed to the catalytic properties of CuO and synergistic effect of the ternary nanocomposites. Meanwhile, the as-fabricated CuO/CNTs-rGO sensor also displays good selectivity and long-term stability, which implies its feasibility for practical application.

Abstract:Fe2O3 nanorods, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and reduced graphene nanosheets (rGO) have been assembled to form Fe2O3-MWCNTs/rGO hybrid nanostructures for high sensitivity detection of hydrazine. Hydrolysis reaction and annealing were firstly used to grow Fe2O3 nanorods on MWCNTs, resulting in high density Fe2O3 nanorods with a typical diameter of 300 nm and lengths in the range from 100 nm to 200 nm. The electrochemical properties of Fe2O3-MWCNTs/rGO nanostructures were then investigated and both cyclic voltammetry (CV) and amperometry showed that Fe2O3-MWCNTs/rGO hybrid nanostructures can be used for hydrazine detection, due to their high sensitivity (4.1 mu A.mu M-1.cm(-2)), short response time (3 s), low detection limit (0.048 mu M with a S/N = 3) and good linear detection range (0.3 mu M-350 mu M). Moreover, they also present high selectivity, long-term stability and reproducibility. These characteristics can be attributed to the superimposed catalytic effect and larger specific surface area of the Fe2O3-MWCNTs/rGO hybrid nanostructures, which make them promising for high-performance electrochemical sensing. Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensors with high sensitivity and stable detecting ability have been particularly in demand in the charming medical health and environmental monitoring. In this work, spherical ZnFe2O4/g-C3N4 (ZFO/g-C3N4) nano/microcomposites with different contents of g-C3N4 were controllably synthesized through a solvothermal calcination strategy, and the morphologies of their target materials were systematically characterized via scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. Subsequently, the as-prepared spherical ZFO/g-C3N4 composites are designed as an outstanding electrochemical sensor for H2O2, and its sensitivity was evaluated using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry techniques. The ZFO/g-C3N4 microspheres exhibited a synergistic catalytic effect with a broad linear detection range between 5 and 200 μM and a detection limit of 1 μM (S/N = 3). The enhanced electrochemical performances of uniform ZFO/g-C3N4 composites with a three-dimensional net structure proved that the combination of a two-dimensional material (C3N4) and spinel-type metal oxide (ZnFe2O4) produces apparent activity, showing broad application potential in nonenzymatic sensors.

CTAB Assisted Immobilization of RuO2 Nanoparticles on Graphene Oxide for Electrochemical Sensing of Hydrazine

Abstract:A novel method has been presented to modify glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposite without introducing any electrode binder such as chitosan and Nafion. First, modify GCE with RuO2 nanoparticles which have been dispersed in cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) aqueous solution. Then, highly adhesive RuO2/CTAB/GO nanocomposite membrane formed on GCE by immersing RuO2/CTAB modified GCE in GO suspension. CTAB plays significant roles not only in the preparation of the nanocomposite but also in the immobilization of nanocomposite on GCE surface. First, CTAB was used as the dispersant of RuO2 nanoparticles. Second, CTAB acted as the molecular linker to bind RuO2 nanoparticles on graphene sheets. Third, CTAB formed CTAB/GO nanocomposite which is highly adhesive on the surface of electrodes such as GCE and ITO (indium tin oxide). The obtained RuO2/CTAB/GO/GCE shows excellent electrocatalytic ability towards the oxidation of hydrazine. The oxidation of hydrazine on RuO2/CTAB/GO/GCE is an adsorption-controlled process and the oxidation current is linear with the concentration of hydrazine in the range of 1 x 10(-5)approximate to 1 x 10(-3) M with a detection limit of 2.3 x 10(-6) M. The application of this sensor in the sensing of hydrazine in real water samples confirmed its reliability and accuracy.
Hierarchical ZnO micro/nanoarchitectures: hydrothermal preparation, characterization and application in the detection of hydrazine

Abstract:In the present work, we report the successful preparation of hierarchical ZnO micro/nanoarchitectures in one step by a simple hydrothermal route, using Zn(CH(3)COO)(2)center dot 2H(2)O, hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) and NH(3)center dot H(2)O (5%) as the starting materials. The product was characterized by means of powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The experiments showed that the morphology of ZnO could be controlled by the volume of NH(3)center dot H(2)O (5%). Using the hierarchical ZnO micro/nanoarchitecture, a simple amperometric sensor for the detection of hydrazine was fabricated. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) revealed that the hierarchical ZnO micro/nanoarchitecture exhibited a higher catalytic effect on hydrazine than normal, flower-like ZnO microstructures. The amperometric sensor was used in the detection of hydrazine with a detection limit of 0.25 mu M over a wide linear detection range up to 200 mu M, and with a high sensitivity of -15.86 mu A mM(-1), which is better than for other reported amperometric hydrazine sensors.

Abstract:Development of high performances gas sensors to monitor and detect the volatile organic compound triethylamine is of paramount importance for health and environmental protection. The Co3O4-ZnO nanoparticles composite was successfully synthesized by the one-step hydrothermal route and annealing process in this work. The gas sensitivity test results show that the composite exhibits excellent triethylamine-sensing performance at a cobalt content of 1 at%, indicating potential application for triethylamine detection. The sensor based on the Co3O4-ZnO composite had higher sensitivity to triethylamine, better selectivity, and faster response recovery rate compared with pure ZnO sensor. Combined with the structural characteristics of the characterized Co3O4-ZnO nanocomposite, the optimized triethylamine sensing performances can be ascribed to the p-n heterojunction effect between Co3O4 and ZnO, as well as the catalytic and high oxygen adsorption properties of Co3O4.

Abstract:Nitrogen-doped graphene (GN) has great potential applications in many fields because doping with nitrogen can alter the electrical properties of graphene. It is still a challenge to develop a convenient method for synthesis of GN sheets. In this paper, we first report the synthesis of a nitrogen-doped graphene/ZnSe nanocomposite (GN-ZnSe) by a one-pot hydrothermal process at low temperature using graphene oxide nanosheets and [ZnSe](DETA)(0.5) nanobelts as precursors. ZnSe nanorods composed of ZnSe nanoparticles were found to deposit on the surface of the GN sheets. The results demonstrated that [ZnSe](DETA)(0.5) nanobelts were used not only as the source of ZnSe nanoparticles but also as the nitrogen source. Interestingly, it was found that the as-prepared nanocomposites exhibit remarkably enhanced electrochemical performance for oxygen reduction reaction and photocatalytic activities for the bleaching of methyl orange dye under visible-light irradiation. This facile and catalyst-free approach for depositing ZnSe nanoparticles onto the graphene sheets may provide an alternative way for preparation of other nanocomposites based on GN sheets under mild conditions, which show their potential applications in wastewater treatment, fuel cells, energy storage, nanodevices, and so on.

Abstract:An easy yet viable hydrothermal reaction is demonstrated to prepare ultra-small Zn2SnO4 nanoparticle with ~4.2 nm decorated reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanocomposites (Zn2SnO4-RGO). The pure phase Zn2SnO4 nanoparticles with ~4.2 nm can be achieved during hydrothermal reaction, meanwhile, these nanoparticles uniformly dispersed on 2D graphene sheet, and graphene oxide was reduced. The photocatalytic performances of the as-prepared Zn2SnO4-RGO nanocomposites with different RGO mass ratio are investigated. The optimum synergetic effect is found when the RGO mass ratio is 7.11%, with the photocurrent and photodegradation efficiency improved by about 300% and 80% on methylene blue (MB), respectively, compared with the pure Zn2SnO4 nanoparticles.

Abstract:This paper presents the synthesis of a novel corn-stalk-like MnO2/CoNi oxide composite using an in situ epitaxial attachment growth strategy, in which CoNi oxide nanosheets are anchored onto MnO2 nanowires. The one-dimensional MnO2 nanowires, with their large specific surface area, serve as a support to enhance the electronic conductivity of the CoNi oxides. Hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) is employed as an alkaline linking agent, playing a key role in shaping the CoNi oxide nanosheets and ensuring their successful growth on the MnO2 nanowires. The MnO2/CoNi oxide composite-based electrochemical sensor exhibits excellent synergistic and interfacial effects, promoting electron transfer and charge migration. This composite material shows outstanding electrocatalytic performance for hydrazine detection, with a broad linear range (0.48−6106.58 μM), low detection limit (0.286 μM, S/N = 3), and high sensitivity (0.037 μA μM− 1 ). Moreover, when tested for hydrazine detection in water samples, the sensor achieved a recovery rate of 95.7−105%, highlighting its high sensitivity and rapid response in practical applications.

Abstract:By modifying the ZnO-SnO2 matrix nanocomposite material with reduced graphene oxide and doping with palladium nanoparticles, a hydrogen gas-sensitive material with p-n–n heterojunction is synthesized. At the same time, it has developed its sensing characteristics for ppm level hydrogen. ZnO nanosheets were synthesized using a simple hydrothermal method, and then ZnO-SnO2 composite materials were synthesized on the basis of ZnO, and finally 3 wt% rGO was modified and Pd nanoparticles were doped. The crystal structure and structure morphology of the material were characterized by SEM, TEM, and XRD, and the results showed that the ZnO-SnO2 nanocomposite was uniformly coated on the surface of rGO. The hydrogen sensing properties of the material were studied, and the results showed that the sensor's sensing response to 200 ppm hydrogen was about 14.9 at the optimal working temperature of 160 ℃, and the response time and recovery time were 100 s and 220 s, respectively. The sensor has high hydrogen response, specific response to hydrogen, and low operating temperature. Its excellent sensing performance is mainly attributed to the modification of rGO and the doping of Pd nanoparticles to enhance the effective transfer of electrons.
