Abstract:This Editorial introduces the motivation and organization process of the special issue on intelligent robotic systems. The major contributions of the six papers published in the special issue are discussed. In these papers, three papers present recent progresses in robot navigation and localization in complex environments. One paper reports a new robot sensing approach. The other two papers address the problems in robot dynamics modeling and service modeling in human-robot interaction.

Abstract:This book includes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 17th Annual RoboCup International Symposium, held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in June 2013. The 20 revised papers presented together with 11 champion team papers, 3 best paper awards, 11 oral presentations, and 19 special track on open-source hard- and software papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 78 submissions. The papers present current research and educational activities within the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence with a special focus to robot hardware and software, perception and action, robotic cognition and learning, multi-robot systems, human-robot interaction, education and edutainment, and applications.

Abstract:Advanced functional materials, drives and transmissions, sensors and mechanisms provide solid foundations for developing intelligent robots, for which modelling and simulation tools have contributed greatly to these developments, and facilitated deployments and applications of intelligent robots. Motivated by rapid developments of sensor fusion, intelligent control and machine learning tools and their widely availability at low cost, this special issue aims at disseminating new modelling and simulation methods for developing intelligent robotic systems and their applications. With the emerging applications to robotics, this focused section competitively selects the 10 research papers covering a spectrum of modeling of novel single robots, human-robot interactive systems, and even robotic automation process, which includes modeling of biped and wearable robots, parallel mechanisms, autonomous robots, and robot-environment interaction, as well as modeling with robot visions.

Abstract:The Zhejiang University Micro-Aerial Robotics Team (ZMART) has prepared to participate the 2012 International Aerial Robotics Competition (IARC). Our team aims to demonstrate autonomous exploring and operation in an unknown indoor environment. The basic system architecture consists of a quadrotor helicopter platform, control units, different kinds of sensors, communication modules and a base station. The hardware structure, as well as the algorithm structure, will be introduced in this report.

Abstract:This paper reports the activities and outcomes in the Workshop on Grasping and Manipulation Datasets that was organized under the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2016. The half day workshop was packed with nine invited talks, 12 interactive presentations, and one panel discussion with ten panelists. This paper summarizes all the talks and presentations and recaps what has been discussed in the panels session. This summary servers as a review of recent developments in data collection in grasping and manipulation. Many of the presentations describe ongoing efforts or explorations that could be achieved and fully available in a year or two. The panel discussion not only commented on the current approaches, but also indicates new directions and focuses. The workshop clearly displayed the importance of quality datasets in robotics and robotic grasping and manipulation field. Hopefully the workshop could motivate larger efforts to create big datasets that are comparable with big datasets in other communities such as computer vision.

Once again, the ICoSR research community cannot meet in person, because of the COVID-19 pandemic; originally, we planned and hoped for at least a hybrid conference to be hosted in Xishuangbanna, China. In order to create safe, meaningful, and wanted human-robot interactions for people and society, to create new ways of thinking about our future lives with robotic technology, virtual conference is essential.
