Abstract:We verify that if M is a compact minimal submanifold with boundary in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\sum \nolimits _{i=1}^{k}\lambda _i\ge \frac{2n\pi }{e}k^{\frac{n+2}{n}}{{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(M)^{-\frac{2}{n}}$$, where $$\lambda _i$$ is the ith Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M. This provides an evidence for that the generalized Pólya conjecture is true. We also prove that if M is a complete and non-compact minimal submanifold in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\gamma _n N_\alpha (V)\le \int _M(V-\alpha )_{-}^{n/2}(x)dx$$, where $$N_\alpha (V)$$ is the number of eigenvalues($$\le \alpha $$) of the Schrödinger operator $$-\Delta +V$$ on M and $$\gamma _n$$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on n.

Abstract:Boesch’s theorem says that “Suppose that a connected graph G has two non-adjacent 2-degree vertices u1 and u2. Then t(G)≤t(G/{u1,u2}), where t(G) is the number of spanning trees of G.” In this paper, we generalize this theorem as follows: “Suppose that G is a connected graph of order at least 3, and that u1 and u2 are two vertices of degree m and n, respectively, in G. Then t(G)≤mn−m02m+n−2m0t(G/{u1,u2}), where m0(≥0) is the number of multiple edges between u1 and u2.”

Abstract:A Neumaier graph is a non-complete edge-regular graph containing a regular clique. In this paper we give some sufficient and necessary conditions for a Neumaier graph to be strongly regular. Further we show that there does not exist Neumaier graphs with exactly four distinct eigenvalues. We also determine the Neumaier graphs with smallest eigenvalue - 2 .

Abstract:In 1977, Hoffman gave a characterization of graphs with smallest eigenvalue at least −2. In this paper we generalize this result to graphs with smaller smallest eigenvalue. For the proof, we use a combinatorial object named Hoffman graph, introduced by Woo and Neumaier in 1995. Our result says that for every λ≤−2, if a graph with smallest eigenvalue at least λ satisfies some local conditions, then it is highly structured. We apply our result to graphs which are cospectral with the Hamming graph H(3,q), the Johnson graph J(v,3) and the 2-clique extension of grids, respectively.

Abstract:We consider nonregular graphs having precisely three distinct eigenvalues. The focus is mainly on the case of graphs having two distinct valencies and our results include constructions of new examples, structure theorems, valency constraints, and a classification of certain special families of such graphs. We also present a new example of a graph with three valencies and three eigenvalues of which there are currently only finitely many known examples.

Abstract:This note is based on joint work with Xi-Ming Cheng, Alexander Gavrilyuk, and Jack Koolen. We refer the interested reader to our paper [4]. Our objects of study are graphs having precisely three distinct eigenvalues. For graphs with few eigenvalues, the case of three eigenvalues is the first interesting case. Indeed, let $\Gamma$ be a connected graph on $n$ vertices and let $A$ denote its adjacency matrix. Since the trace of $A$ is zero, if $\Gamma$ has just one eigenvalue $\theta_{0}$ then it follows that $\theta_{0}=0$ . Now, if $\Gamma$ has just two eigenvalues $\theta_{0}>\theta_{1}$ then since it is connected, it must have spectrum $\{[\theta_{0}]^{(1)}, [\theta_{1}]^{(n-1)}\}$ . Since the trace of $A$ is zero and the trace of $A^{2}$ is $2e$ where $e$ is the number of edges of $\Gamma$ , we have the equation

Abstract:In this paper, we study the linear independence between the distribution of the number of prime factors of integers and that of the largest prime factors of integers. Respectively, under a restriction on the largest prime factors of integers, we will refine the Erdős-Kac Theorem and Loyd's recent result on Bergelson and Richter's dynamical generalizations of the Prime Number Theorem. At the end, we will show that the analogue of these results holds with respect to the Erdős-Pomerance Theorem as well.

Abstract:The Cayley sum graph $\Gamma_A$ of a set $A \subseteq \mathbb{Z}_n$ is defined to have vertex set $\mathbb{Z}_n$ and an edge between two distinct vertices $x, y \in \mathbb{Z}_n$ if $x + y \in A$. Green and Morris proved that if the set $A$ is a $p$-random subset of $\mathbb{Z}_n$ with $p = 1/2$, then the independence number of $\Gamma_A$ is asymptotically equal to $\alpha(G(n, 1/2))$ with high probability. Our main theorem is the first extension of their result to $p = o(1)$: we show that, with high probability, $$\alpha(\Gamma_A) = (1 + o(1)) \alpha(G(n, p))$$ as long as $p \ge (\log n)^{-1/80}$. One of the tools in our proof is a geometric-flavoured theorem that generalises Freĭman's lemma, the classical lower bound on the size of high dimensional sumsets. We also give a short proof of this result up to a constant factor; this version yields a much simpler proof of our main theorem at the expense of a worse constant.

Abstract:For a connected graph $G$ with order $n$, let $e(G)$ be the number of its distinct eigenvalues and $d$ be the diameter. We denote by $m_G(\mu)$ the eigenvalue multiplicity of $\mu$ in $G$. It is well known that $e(G)\geq d+1$, which shows $m_G(\mu)\leq n-d$ for any real number $\mu$. A graph is called $minimal$ if $e(G)= d+1$. In 2013, Wang (\cite{WD}, Linear Algebra Appl.) characterize all minimal graphs with $m_G(0)=n-d$. In 2023, Du et al. (\cite{Du}, Linear Algebra Appl.) characterize all the trees for which there is a real symmetric matrix with nullity $n-d$ and $n-d-1$. In this paper, by applying the star complement theory, we prove that if $G$ is not a path and $m_G(\mu)= n-d$, then $\mu \in \{0,-1\}$. Furthermore, we completely characterize all minimal graphs with $m_G(-1)=n-d$.

Abstract:Let G be a simple graph with the adjacency matrix A ( G ) , and let τ ( G ) denote the smallest positive eigenvalue of A ( G ) . Let G n be the class of all connected bipartite graphs on n = 2 k vertices with a unique perfect matching. In this article, we characterize the graphs G in G n such that τ ( G ) does not exceed 1 2 . Using the above characterization, we obtain the unique graphs in G n with the maximum and the second maximum τ , respectively. Further, we prove that the largest and the second largest limit points of the smallest positive eigenvalues of bipartite graphs with a unique perfect matching are 1 2 and the reciprocal of α 3 1 2 + α 3 − 1 2 , respectively, where α 3 is the largest root of x 3 − x − 1 .

Abstract:Let λ≥2 be an integer. For strongly regular graphs with parameters (v,k,a,c) and smallest eigenvalue −λ, Neumaier gave two bounds on c by using algebraic property of strongly regular graphs. In this paper, we will study a new class of regular graphs called sesqui-regular graphs, which contains strongly regular graphs as a subclass, and prove that for a sesqui-regular graph with parameters (v,k,c) and smallest eigenvalue at least −λ, if k is very large, then either c≤λ2(λ−1) or v−k−1≤(λ−1)24+1 holds.

Abstract:A Neumaier graph is a non-complete edge-regular graph containing a regular clique. In this work, we prove several results on the existence of small strictly Neumaier graphs. In particular, we present a theoretical proof of the uniqueness of the smallest strictly Neumaier graph with parameters (16, 9, 4; 2, 4), we establish the existence of a strictly Neumaier graph with parameters (25, 12, 5; 2, 5), and we disprove the existence of strictly Neumaier graphs with parameters (25, 16, 9; 3, 5), (28, 18, 11; 4, 7), (33, 24, 17; 6, 9), (35, 2212; 3, 5), (40, 30, 22; 7, 10) and (55, 34, 18; 3, 5). Our proofs use combinatorial techniques and a novel application of integer programming methods.

Abstract:In this paper, we classify non-geometric distance-regular graphs of diameter at least $3$ with smallest eigenvalue at least $-3$. This is progress towards what is hoped to be an eventual complete classification of distance-regular graphs with smallest eigenvalue at least $-3$, analogous to existing classification results available in the case that the smallest eigenvalue is at least $-2$.
