Abstract:In a positive response to the Belt and Road initiative of China, the construction of international civil engineering program is proposed, and this program is urgently needed to train engineers serving for worldwide construction projects. This paper reports the practice of building International Civil Engineering program at the Nanjing Tech University. The background and target of this program are given, along with the organization and management of curriculum. The management of faculty members, establishment of regulations and facilities are introduced in this paper, followed by the discussion of the challenging problems and possible solutions.

Abstract:Tunnel engineering is the core course in civil engineering.Based on the characteristics and teaching purposes of tunnel engineering course, the existing problems in traditional education were analyzed.On the basis of CDIO engineering education concept, thoughts of tunnel engineering teaching reform are presented, specific measures for teaching reform are put forward as well.Through the CDIO teaching reform, the goal of teaching ability is highlighted, the teaching contents are updated, the ability of independent, teamwork and communication for students are improved by the CDIO course project.It is proved that the quality of teaching has achieved good results.The teaching reform of tunnel engineering can provide good guide and reference for education reform and practice of civil engineering.

Abstract:It is imperative to construct high-level, innovative and challenging courses in the teaching of colleges and universities. It is also of great significance to explore innovative teaching methods for improving students' learning effect. In this paper, the course "Civil Engineering Construction" of a civil engineering major is taken as a reform example. In this teaching-innovation mode, guided by students' moral education and students' achievements, and the course platform is built in order to achieve the education concept of sustainable development and cultivate applied talents who can solve complex problems in civil engineering. In teaching practice, "Dual Platforms", which combines course teaching platform and virtual simulation platform, is built mainly to expand the learning approaches. The "Three Educations" mode, which combines on-site education, classroom education, and mental health education, is established to improve the comprehensive quality of students. Comprehensive academic evaluation is carried out through "Four Reports", including an open assignment report, special technical study report, BIM (building information modeling) technical work report, and final comprehensive written test report. Through studying this course, students not only master the knowledge of civil engineering construction, but also acquire knowledge-innovation ability, such as thesis publication, patent writing, discipline competition, and cultivating the craftsman spirit and social responsibility to abide by professional ethics in future work. This teaching innovation mode has been implemented for 12 years and achieved excellent results in cultivating students' intelligent ability for sustainable development. It has been promoted in 14 courses, and has certain reference significance for engineering-course teaching.

Abstract:"Soil Mechanics" is a degree course in Zhejiang University City College of Civil Engineering. The teaching group of this course has thought and practiced the reforms in teacher-student interaction, attendance innovation, materials selection, layout of the homework and the form of practice teaching. Simplifying the derivation of calculation formulas and strengthening the experiment and practice which can develop the students' manipulative ability and innovative spirit. Interacting with students which can make them learn more about the teacher and this course. At the same time, teachers can understand better about the students' thinking, then adapt and improve each other. The reform of teaching material selection and arrangement of work which make students have more examples to refer. The free choice in after-school subject which allow students to sum up the knowledge points and that would enable the consolidation of classroom teaching. At the same time, by consulting reference books, students will find the knowledge points which the teacher did not emphasized.

Abstract:The idea of emerging engineering education is currently accepted by many domestic universities which put forwards higher requirement for engineering cultivations. In this paper some existing problems in discipline construction and personnel cultivation have been presented and in order to fulfill this education ideology of student-centered and the aim of ability training for students majored in civil engineering in provincial university, it is necessary to evaluate the regional advantages, major characteristic as well as development planning. Some measurements and methods have correspondingly been suggested with the consideration of modern information technology, teaching reform, school-enterprise cooperation and professional accreditation whose purpose is to foster future engineers with composite ability in order to meet the need of social development. Engineering education accreditation could be looked as a reasonable path for major development of civil engineering under the tendency of emerging engineering education.

Abstract:Courses are an important way of cultivating talents in college education. Advanced training schemes and the course system are implemented through course teaching. Advanced teaching notions and methods also rely on course teaching. Therefore, the quality of course teaching is the fundamental guarantor for grooming talent. The teachers of the course “Microcontroller Principles and Interface Techniques” in the Optical Science and Engineering College of Zhejiang University insist on course teaching becoming student centered and ability-training–oriented. They pay attention to students’all-round development in terms of learning ability, practical ability, innovation ability, and exploring spirit. They actively carried out course reforms in four aspects, namely teaching, learning, evaluation, and experimentation. This paper mainly introduced these reforms. First, the teaching method was reformed by introducing case analysis and the notion of a flipped classroom to shift the course focus from the teacher to the students. Second, the learning method was reformed through the use of techniques such as peer learning and project design to promote students’ sense of enquiry and learning initiative. Third, the evaluation method was reformed through the use of process assessment and diversity evaluation to encourage students to develop logical thinking and a down-to-earth manner. Fourth, the experimentation method was reformed by introducing hierarchical content, process management, and diversification of examination to change students’learning attitude from “dependence, passivity, and imitation” to “independence, active involvement, and creation.”In general, the teaching method reform promoted reforms in learning, evaluation, and experimentation methods and further improved the style of study. These reforms improved teachers’ teaching abilities and enabled course teaching to transform from being teacher centered to student centered. Years of exploration and practice results have shown that such reforms not only effectively inspire students to learn, explore, and practice actively, but also cultivate their creative spirit and courage to face challenges, providing a good platform for theirself-learning and personal growth. The course reforms discussed here have been highly recommended for their reference value.

Abstract:By analyzing the current situation and deficiencies of the teaching of concrete structure design courses, summarizing teaching experience, and combining with the characteristics of our university's "applied" talent training, this study explores the teaching reform of concrete structure design courses for the 2021 level civil engineering majors. The exploration primarily focuses on optimizing teaching content, improving teaching methods, strengthening practical components, and diversifying assessment methods. Abstract:With China’s industrial restructuring and the increasing important role of information and knowledge industry in recent years, talents nurtured under the traditional educational mode are not able to meet the needs of the society. Nanjing University has began to implement the ‘three-three system’ education model featured with ‘three phases’ and ‘three paths’. The new model proposes to fulfill the requirements of the new standards through innovative education. The first two stages are able to develop a student’s general knowledge of a topic and provide a base for choosing a professional field that they are interested in. Then in the final stage the students are able to cultivate their knowledge and apply it through, academic research, an interdisciplinary lens and finally an employment lens. Based on this model, the undergraduate teaching curriculum of urban and rural planning at Nanjing University has conducted a ‘discipline-oriented to student-oriented shift’ reform including the course, urban and architectural cognitive practice. Within this course students apply their understanding of architecture and urban form to real world situations by visiting sites throughout China, and meeting professionals in the field. This paper systematically reviews and analyzes the new teaching philosophy, constructive goals and practical content of this newly designed course. Students in this class are motivated to seek out their interest through, writing research papers, drawing and learning how it applies to an actual career in urban architecture. Through the newly created ‘three-three’ cultivating course on architectural cognitive practice the three new features of this course are effectively building a student’s professional academic ability, interdisciplinary capacity and the entrepreneurial ability--thus providing a useful reference to the teaching reform of the urban planning curriculum.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the course teaching system reform for numerical methods for engineering with new engineering feature. The course of numerical methods for engineering has strong theoretical knowledge, complicated experiments and calculation, which is difficult to active the students' attention. Thus the existing curriculum system should be reformed. Take the course of numerical methods for engineering in Light industrial mechanics department for example. Firstly, based on the teaching idea, strengthen the process of the students in school education. Introduce interaction between students and teachers; promote initiative of students, continuous improvement to achieve leapfrogging. Secondly, improve the teaching methods and means. Breaks the traditional teaching mode and emphasizes students' participation consciousness. Put the students in the central position of classroom teaching and fundamentally change the students' class status. Then, design the teaching content, the course can be divided into several modules to give lectures and arrange discussion between students and teachers. Fourthly, modularize method and continuous improvement is applied in our teaching thoroughly, and guide the students to participate in teaching processing actively. Finally, establish a perfect assessment way, sum up experience timely, and constantly revise and improve our reform. With these, a good start can be made for the reform for numerical methods for engineering in new engineering education.
