Abstract:According with urban economy's rapid development,there is a common characteristic appearing in many China cities which is speed of urbanization in these cities is growing faster and faster.Then,a number of historical culture cities are rethinking a question what is how to making their conservation more effective in progress of modernization in China.This article takes Hangzhou as an example,first,compares two different conservation methods between Hangzhou and Suzhou;then,finds reasons why Hangzhou cannot conserve its historical cultural resources effectively by using the old city rebuilding conservation method;after that,analyses relationship between economic development and urban space structure;finally,deduces conclusion that conservation of a old city must depends on developing of a new city.With contribution of leisure economy development,the historical cultural city-Hangzhou could achieve a wonderful consequence that is the old city feeds on itself.

Abstract:Environment and Planning B: Urban Analytics and City Science, Ahead of Print. Cities are different worldwide, but does this fact have any relation to culture? The idea that urban form embodies idiosyncrasies related to cultural identities captures the imagination of many in urban studies, but it is an assumption yet to be carefully examined. At its heart, the question of whether cities can be seen as cultural artefacts is informational: whether or not cultural traces can be encoded in the physical configuration of cities. Approaching spatial configuration as a proxy of urban culture, we investigate this possibility by focussing on buildings as the primary components shaping cities. Looking into how buildings aggregate in combinations and complexes, we explore Shannon's information theory to introduce an entropy measure and analyse frequencies of cellular configurations of built form. We apply this method to downtown areas of 45 cities from different regions around the world. Assessing differences and similarities in cellular configurations, we identify clusters of cities potentially consistent with specific spatial cultures. Our findings suggest a classification scheme that sheds light on the 'cultural hypothesis': the possibility that different cultures and regions find different ways of ordering space. We conclude our analysis by arguing that the endless combinatorial possibilities of building configurations, missing from street network approaches, add complexity to cities and prompt a renewed interest in built form systems.

Abstract:The paper emphasizes utmost importance to two theoretical arguments. Firstly," Culture is the soul of a city", secondly," Architecture is the symbol of culture." The paper points out the existing weakness of most Chinese cities is its similarity to each other in appearance, the so called" Peculiarity Crisis"." one face for a thousand cities". etc. The paper also puts forward three suggestions on dealing with this weakness: (1) to get rid of the sense of inferiority in culture, (2) to insist on searching for culture, climatic and geographical peculiarities of domestic architecture in designing. Do not forget to create something new, while inheriting excellent traditions, (3) application of the artistic principle of "Defamiliarization", that is, making things creatively, letting people get rid of the familiarization in feeling and looking at things in a surprising sight and poetic way. As a result, things originally have no fresh ideas will become brand new.

Abstract:It is essential for integration of architecture with urban space under conformity conception to create modern urban space in architecture creation. From the viewpoint of systematology architecture is a subordinate system of a city, and architectural space is a subordinate system of urban space, they are an integration of antitheses.
