Research on Rural Environmental Issues of China from the View of "the Tragedy of the Commons"

Abstract:When the urban environment has been being attached, the rural environmental issues are increasingly outstanding. The theory of "the Tragedy of the Commons" is helpful for understanding China's rural environmental issues. The paper reviewed the origin of "the Tragedy of the Commons" and introduced several solutions. Based on the theory of "the Tragedy of the Commons", the status and causes of China's rural environmental issues were theoretically investigated. As countermeasure, a polycentric rural environmental management system was suggested, which include domination of government, market mechanisms and especially polycentric self-governance.
