Abstract:This review paper covers several quality of service (QoS) models provided by Internet including IntServ, DiffServ and MPLS. It analyses the architecture and technological characteristics of each model. After an introduction of each model, this paper summarizes what QoS requests they can fulfill and how they implement these requests. It also describes the support of multicast in QoS models in brief. Based on these analytical studies, this paper proposes a total architecture of top-to-bottom, end-to-end QoS model, which takes full advantage of the virtues of the models described beforehand. This model has two prominent points: End-to-End QoS guarantee and flexible extensibility, which represent the trend for the future research of QoS.

This paper presents the details of MPLS-Linux, a Linux Based MPLS engine, which includes the architecture, data structure, switch routing algorithm and QoS control mechanism. By analyzing the results of MPLS-Linux performance measurement, it is stated that the key factors of adopting MPLS into real network include efficient end-to-end signaling mechanism with multicast ability, fault tolerance mechanism and traffic engineering mechanism.

Abstract:As the technology of intelligent substation is developed gradually, the significance of he Ethernet switch in the substation is obvious increasingly.Firstly, the learning and transmitting principle of Ethernet frame are introduced, then the network program of secondary system using the switch in the hierarchial structure is described. And then a detailed analysis of the VLAN, QoS, mirror and ring network is given, also the various technical application scheme are provided according to a variety of IED features and data flow characteristics. On the basis of the different business needs and different message types, the reasonable design of network topology and the flexible use of these switching technology , can support security, stability, reliable transmission of communication message in intelligent substation , therefore the whole substation becomes more strong.

Abstract:To support a growing number of users and multiple classes of applications with different performance requirements and characteristics, service providers have been forced to adapt to new technologies. To improve traffic management and Internet service quality, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) proposed MPLS technology to support several classes of latency-critical applications. Traditional IP networks use a hop-by-pop principle for transmitting traffic. This leads to aggregation of heterogeneous traffic on links in different parts of the network, which causes considerable possible growth of congestion and leaves the network with both unbalanced use of resources and link failure in congested parts. This raises the need for traffic engineering to ensure bandwidth guarantees and efficient use of network resources. To overcome these problems, the IETF has proposed a new data transmission mechanism, which is MPLS (Multi protocol label switching), in accordance with the current requirements. The application of MPLS (Multi protocol label switching) technology in modern communication networks is defined by the author as a research task. The report discusses the prospects of MPLS as a universal technology that supports several protocols. The features of construction of virtual private networks (VPN) on MPLS are considered, and how traffic engineering in MPLS takes into account the use of resources, which makes the development of routes based on separate streams or different streams between the same endpoints more effective.

Abstract:Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) networks are packet-based networks that offer considerable advantages, including improved network utilisation, reduced network latency, and the ability to meet the quality of service and strict level agreement requirements of any incoming traffic. A vast number of applications are now migrating to packet-based conditions that cause increased pressure on network providers to change their systems. Innovations and improvements on MPLS are still on-going to ensure that such networks can cater to the ever-increasing bandwidth demand whenever required. This study provides a review of MPLS networks and their promising technologies, such as traffic engineering, protection and restoration, differentiated services, and MPLS-transport profile (MPLS-TP) and its applications. This work also reviews recent issues on MPLS networks and discusses the implementation of MPLS-TP networks in the power grid. A review of recent literature shows that researchers should be careful in proposing new protocols or designs for MPLS to ensure that it achieves the most efficient and optimal performance. Furthermore, it can be concluded that although MPLS is a promising technology for future networks, there are challenges to overcome with regards to security and network flexibility, especially as far as migration to MPLS-TP is concerned.

Abstract:This paper presents the details of MPLS-Linux, including its architecture, data structure, label switching and QoS provisioning. By measuring and analyzing the performance of packet stream over LSP made up by MPLS-Linux, it is found that service quality of LSP is better than that of IP routing if load on router is low or end-to-end bandwidth reservation has been implemented, while LSP is more sensible to load on router than traditional routing system. MPLS must be used in company with policy based routing and packet classification to provide end-to-end QoS service in Internet environment.

Abstract:The IP-based virtual private network (VPN) technology is now becoming a good solution for the delivery of future Internet services, and multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) technology is being adopted to offer VPNs and some value-added applications on top of VPN transport networks. In this paper, we proposed a novel approach based on using label stack properly to reduce the label size efficiently. In this way, the performance of MPLS-based VPN can be improved. Our simulation results validated our approach, demonstrating that MPLS-based VPN established by our approach has a better performance.

Realization and efficiency analysis of conversational voice services in wireless local area networks

Abstract:A new system scheme was proposed to realize conversational voice services with high QoS requirements in wireless local area networks (WLAN). This scheme contains a network model consisting of wireless terminals, wireless access point, voice gateway and internet, while the adopted protocol stack architecture of the wireless terminals inside WLAN is RTP/UDP/IP/LLC802.2/802.11e, from application layer to medium access control (MAC) layer respectively. In MAC layer, an improved Multipoll based on hybrid coordination function (HCF) of standard IEEE 802.11e was presented by designing the polling mechanisms and the polling frame formats. The admission control policy was derived to satisfy delay and bandwidth requirements, and the polling efficiency formulae of Multipoll and Singlepoll were also derived. Simulation results show that the proposed system scheme can provide QoS guarantees, such as bandwidth and maximal packet delay, for conversational voice services; and that Multipoll is much more efficient than Singlepoll. The throughput performances obtained by simulation are very close to the analytical results, which means that the system throughput can be accurately estimated using the presented formulae.

Abstract:A simple implementation for diff-serv and mobility support in introduced by the way of integrating MPLS label switch mech- anism mpls-linux with linux TC (linux traffic control) and MB-HMIPv6 mechanism. On the basis of that, a simple MPLS diff-serv and mobile IPv6 testbed was set up with the result of MPLS diff-serv and handoff of multi-binding hierarchical mobility. The contrastive result reveals the realizability and availability of this scheme, thus it provides an idea for the implementation of MPLS diff-serv and mobility support.

Abstract:AbstractRecently, there has been increasing demand for Multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) technology in most internet service provider networks. The application of MPLS technology in wireless networking is evolving. Therefore, next generation wireless networks are required to have IP mobility solutions with high reliability, low-latency handoffs, and trustworthy security. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-path mobility scheme for fast handoff to achieve these requirements. The scheme is based on MPLS multi-path forwarding and network coding based on modulo-p Galois finite field GF(p = 2n) arithmetic. The simulation results show that our proposed approach scales well to fulfill fast handoff/handover performance while providing security for transmitted data with minor bandwidth overhead.
