Abstract:As an independent geothermal proxy, the Curie-point depth has important geodynamic implications, but its estimation from magnetic anomalies requires an understanding of the spatial correlation of source magnetization, mathematically characterized by a fractal exponent. In this paper, we show that fractal exponent and Curie depth are so strongly inter-connected that attempts to simultaneous or iterative estimation of both of them often turn out to be futile. In cases of true large Curie depths, the iterative “de-fractal” method has a tendency of overcorrecting fractal exponents and thereby producing erroneously small Curie depths and smearing out true geological trends. While true fractal exponent can no way be constant over a large area, a regionally fixed fractal exponent is better than any mathematical treatments that are beyond the limit of data resolution and the underlying physics.

Abstract:The electrostatics properties of composite materials with fractal geometry are studied in the framework of fractional calculus. An electric field in a composite dielectric with a fractal charge distribution is obtained in the spherical symmetry case. The method is based on the splitting of a composite volume into a fractal volume $V_d\sim r^d$ with the fractal dimension $d$ and a complementary host volume $V_h=V_3-V_d$. Integrations over these fractal volumes correspond to the convolution integrals that eventually lead to the employment of the fractional integro-differentiation.

Abstract:The basic theory and development in colloid and interface chemistry as well as the application of sol-gel method in various fields were presented and discussed.The application of fractal theory in scientific research on colloidal phenomena as well the means to obtain fractal dimensions were summarized,with the deficiency and incomprehensiveness referring to the basic theory and existing model in this field highlighted.The introduction of fractal theory into sol-gel system was put forward.At the same time,the limitation of the experiment and the non-linearity of the generation process of the sol-gel were shown.Computerized simulation as an effective means and the trends of the combination of computer model and the fractal research were prospected.

Abstract:With electric potential of three electrodes,discrete equations of surface electric charge density was founded with boundary element integral equations.The distribution of surface electric charge on the electrodes was calculated by solving a linear equation group.Then the spatial distribution of the potential and the electric field are obtained.In vacuum,the edge effect of a double glow discharge was analysed.

Application of Fractal Analysis on Researching Shapes of Electrical Trees

Abstract:The shapes of electrical trees in polymeric insulating materials are complex and diverse, and the different shapes of the electrical trees have different fractal dimensions. In the present paper, box-counting dimension method is used though Matlab programming, for analyzing and calculating the fractal images of different shapes of electrical trees. The results show that the more complex the shapes of electrical trees is, the greater its box-counting fractal dimension and the local fractal dimension are. In the two-dimensional plane, the smaller of the box-counting dimension of electrical trees is, its space of spreading is greater and rate of spreading is faster. The stable local fractal dimension of different shapes of electrical trees is in a certain range, so electrical trees can be classified base on the fractal theory. Electrical trees at different growth stages and in complex shapes in polyethylene and polyethylene/ montmorillonite nanocomposites are analyzed and calculated based on the proposed method.

Abstract:Elasticity and electricity (dielectricity and conductivity) equations in two-dimensional inhomogeneous media are compared. In the case of perpendicular vibration, the elasticity equation can be transformed into the exact formulation of the dielectricity one; therefore, electricity and elasticity belong to the same universal class and have the same size scaling exponent in the fractal system.

Abstract:Here we have firstly summarized the relationship between microscopic(electron,atom,ion and molecule) structure and macroscopic(dielectric,conductive,breakdown and aging) property established by using the thermodynamic,statistic,quantum mechanics and solid state physics,and based both on the multi-hierarchy of space scale of architectures and relation time of motive units and forms for conventional polymeric insulating materials and their corresponding composites,especially nanocomposites with very complex molecular,morphological and organic structures,and on the reductionism of physics and emergent phenomena;secondly presented that there are still many unsolved problems,mainly in establishing the relationship between mesoscopic structure and macroscopic property,and in predicting the life-time of insulating materials from the microscopic,even mesoscopic scales and short-term damage or aging extent,finally offered a new concept firstly of how to understand in depth and control the macroscopic property of materials by using space-time hierarchy.

Abstract:Chaos and fractals have gained extensive attention since they were proposed as two useful tools in studying nonlinear dynamic systems. The combination of the two theories has achieved obvious effect on practical application for their inherent relation. This paper has discoursed the applications of chaos and fractal in the field of EM (electromagnetic) scattering, mainly on rough surface modeling, analysis of sea clutters, scatters synthesis and scatter communication. It is obvious that chaos and fractal theories have great superiority over traditional ones in dealing with nonlinear problems. This paper shows that chaos and fractals have played an important part in various aspects of electromagnetic scattering.

Abstract:Fractal geometry presents us with a self-similarity in their pattern at various length scales that is prevalent in our natural world. We present theoretical model of a Sierpinski gasket (SPG) fractal geometry with a deterministic perturbation in the form of a hierarchical distribution of magnetic flux. Such flux configuration induces a deterministic disorder in the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) phases picked up by the electron wavefunction. Using the tight-binding formalism, we show that by tunning the strength of the hierarchy parameter of those AB phases, one can systematically engineer quantum states in a SPG fractal lattice. In addition to this, we have also observed that by controlling the strength of this hierarchy parameter in the magnetic flux, one can effectively regulate the persistent current in the SPG fractal structure. This characteristic is found to be true for various filling factors. Our results could be useful for designing nanoelectronic devices using molecular fractal structures fabricated by chemical synthesis technique.

Abstract:Physical and technological principles of formation of clathrate structures for supramolecular electronics are given in this paper. It has been established that supramolecular nature of the "host-guest" conjunction, in general, and hierarchical architecture of the corresponding clathrates, in particular, provide realization of such an extraordinary effect as an optically or a magnetically controlled phenomenon of colossal "negative capacity" with a predicted frequency interval of manifestation, magnitude, and multiplicity. For the first time, the experimental confirmation of the behavior of the electretized fractal clathrate GaSe⟨β-CD⟨FeSO4⟩⟩ as a dissipative element, which accumulates inductive energy, is demonstrated. A general approach for obtaining the generalized transport equations with fractional derivatives by using the Liouville equation with fractional derivatives for a system of classical particles and the Zubarev nonequilibrium statistical operator method within Renyi statistics is presented. New non-Markovian electrodiffusion equations for ions in a spatially heterogeneous medium with the fractal structure and a generalized Cattaneo-type diffusion equation taking into account the fractality of space-time are obtained. The model of subdiffusion impedance based on the Cattaneo equation with fractional derivatives is applied to multilayer nanostructures. Nyquist diagrams for different valuses of the parameter τ (delay time of a flow relative to a concentration gradient) and the subdiffusion coefficient Dα are calculated.

Abstract:The two-dimensional (2D) electro-convection (EC) flow of dielectric liquids between two concentric cylindrical electrodes driven by unipolar injection of ions is investigated numerically. The finite volume method is used to resolve the spatiotemporal distributions of the flow field, electric field, and charge density. The flow transition routes from steady laminar to chaotic flow states are studied in various scenarios where the mobility parameter M of the dielectric liquids varies from 5 to 200. The dynamic characteristics and bifurcation routes of the EC flow depend on the electric Rayleigh number T, a ratio of the electric force to viscous force, and the mobility parameter M. For increasing T, three different transition routes from a convective steady-state to chaos via different intermediate states are observed. The flow states have been quantified by the power spectral density distribution and phase space trajectory of the velocity. The fractal dimensions and Lyapunov exponents are calculated to identify the chaotic flow. The increase in the mobility parameter M leads to a shorter and more direct route with fewer intermediate states when bifurcating to chaos. In addition, the power scale of charge transport that is defined by the electric Nusselt number Ne and T is discussed when the EC flow develops into electro-turbulence.

Abstract:Fractal materials are fascinating substances that introduce a novel, non-integer dimension world and display self-similar properties. This unique characteristic holds significant appeal in both scientific and mathematical realms. In recent times, there has been noteworthy progress in the synthesis of fractal materials and their promising applications attributed to the distinct properties associated with their special fractal structures. Notably, these properties include a high specific surface area, an abundance of high-density edges and sharp points, all of which provide fractal materials with exceptional advantages in diverse applications, such as biomolecular detection, optics, and energy-related fields. This article centers on exploring the structural characteristics, widely accepted formation mechanisms, and notable applications of fractal materials. Additionally, we explore the current challenges concerning synthetic strategies and future development prospects. We propose rational and strategic perspectives that may serve as potential guidelines for advancing fractal materials. By offering a timely and comprehensive review, this article aims to foster the development of nanostructures.

Abstract:We review our effort in understanding the rich electric, magnetic, and plasmonic properties of photonic metamaterials based on a planar fractal geometry. We employed both experiments and finite-difference time-domain simulations to study the electromagnetic properties of such systems and established effective medium models to characterize these complex structures. These fractal photonic metamaterials are shown to exhibit subwavelength and multiband functionalities with many interesting potential applications.

Abstract:Flexoelectricity phenomenologically describes the universal electromechanical coupling effect between electric polarization and strain gradient, and electric field gradient and elastic strain. In contrast to piezoelectricity which is invalid in materials with inversion symmetry, flexoelectricity exists, commonly, in all solid dielectrics. In this paper, a summary of the research on flexoelectricity is presented to illustrate the development of this topic. Flexoelectricity still have many open questions and unresolved issues in the developing field, although it has attracted a surge of attention recently. Here we review the theoretical investigations and experimental studies on flexoelectricity, and the aim of the current paper is to look into the potential applications of this electromechanical coupling effect.
